I’m expecting baby number 2 and currently trying to finalise our boy name choice. After months of name-searching, I’ve noticed that my preference seems to be for names with an emphasis on ‘O’ sounds and soft consonants (soft by name but not by nature, hehe). My son is called [name]Arlo[/name], so I’m not sure about another name that ends in O (might be a bit too matchy matchy?)
Current favourites are:
[name]Rory[/name] (my absolute fave but OH is not so keen)
[name]Monty[/name] (OH has vetoed)
[name]Oscar[/name] (my mum’s dog’s name, how frustrating!)
[name]Oisin[/name]
[name]Fionn[/name]
Can you think of any similar ‘soft’ sounding names that would work well with [name]Arlo[/name]? I would love some suggestions!
[name]Arlo[/name] is a wonderful name. From your list, I like [name]Oscar[/name] (too bad about your Mum’s dog) the best. I love names ending in “o” but since you already have [name]Arlo[/name], I would avoid that similarity. Here are some other “o” suggestions.
My first thought was [name]Otis[/name] but the I realize [name]Arlo[/name] & [name]Otis[/name] is awfully close to [name]Milo[/name] & [name]Otis[/name]. But if that doesn’t bother you then I really like [name]Otis[/name]
[name]Ovid[/name]/[name]Oved[/name]
[name]Hosea[/name]
[name]Brody[/name]
[name]Bodhi[/name]
[name]Cole[/name]
[name]Roman[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]- you could call him [name]Rory[/name]
[name]Nolan[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
I’m partial to [name]Oscar[/name] myself, though I can see how the dog association could be a downer.
Isn’t [name]Fionn[/name] pronounced [name]Finn[/name]? Can’t see how a ‘soft O’ sound really comes through there…
Some of my favorites are:
[name]Orin[/name]
[name]Roan[/name]
[name]Rourke[/name]
[name]Alois[/name] (I just think this name is so dashing!)
[name]Osias[/name] (Okay, the ‘sigh’ sound in it sharpens it up a bit… but it’s still quite a soft name)
I read that it can sometimes be pronounced as Fi-un or Fi-on, but also [name]Finn[/name] (which I quite like too). But I may need to do more research on the official pronunciation.
Oh, I’m not giving up on [name]Rory[/name] yet! It would be a no-brainer if OH was on board. But if I remember correctly, he wasn’t even sold on [name]Arlo[/name] until after our son was born and the name just seemed to ‘fit’ perfectly.
My boy’s name is [name]Lior[/name]. I love the gentleness of it, and the meaning ‘my light’. We teamed it with a nice strong middle name and it works so well.
[name]Lior[/name] has a lovely sound to it. [name]Do[/name] people often mistake him for ‘[name]Leo[/name]’ at first? Could see that happening (Lots of people think [name]Arlo[/name] is called [name]Harlow[/name] when they ask his name!).
We get a bit of [name]Leo[/name], but most people get it right first off. They pretty much ALWAYS ask what it means though, so perhaps best avoided if you don’t like THOSE conversations. But feedback has been overwhelmingly positive
[name]How[/name] about [name]Oliver[/name] or [name]Owen[/name]? I think both go well with [name]Arlo[/name]! I also love [name]Soren[/name] but that’s already been suggested
Hmm…
[name]Rory[/name]: I like this choice the name is really handsome and very soft. I like the fact that the name seems bright and has an almost Gaelic feel to the name. [name]Rory[/name] is a lovely choice. I think [name]Rory[/name] sounds brilliant with [name]Arlo[/name] as well.
[name]Monty[/name]: I really dislike [name]Monty[/name] for me it’s a pet name
[name]Oscar[/name] - I’ve never really liked [name]Oscar[/name] the name just isn’t me.
[name]Oisin[/name] - I dislike this again, the name lacks the style that I would want in a boys name.
