Help with unique girls names that work is spanish JILL help

Hello all you helpful berries! I am TTC!!! We already have boys names pretty figured out but need help with girls names. It is very important that the name work in spanish. Much of my family only speak spanish.

I already have 2 children [name]Lila[/name] (lee la) and Mir”, both names work VERY well in spanish and have meaning to use. [name]Lila[/name] meaning [name]Lilac[/name] flower (i love nature names) and Mir” for the artist [name]Joan[/name] Mir”.

[name]Clementine[/name]- would be called [name]Clementina[/name] (Cleh men teen [name]AH[/name]) in spanish
[name]Zinnia[/name]
Esm”
[name]Ana[/name]”s [ah-nah-EES] not so easy to say in english
[name]Paloma[/name]- i feel like its getting to pop
[name]Mariposa[/name]- hard to say in english
[name]Iris[/name]- in spanish ARCO [name]IRIS[/name] (EE reece) is a rainbow
[name]Ciel[/name]- is it too celebrity baby?
[name]Delfina[/name]
ocean

thanx [name]Meryl[/name]

I love how your names are so exotic, [name]Meryl[/name]!

[name]Clementine[/name]- would be called [name]Clementina[/name] (Cleh men teen [name]AH[/name]) in spanish- [name]Clementine[/name] (or [name]Clementina[/name]) is lovely, but a bit long with your kids’ names.

[name]Zinnia[/name]- [name]Zinnia[/name] is probably the most underused floral name there is! I love it with [name]Lila[/name] and Mir”!

Esm”- Esm” works well, but it may be too similar to Mir” because it also has an accent on the last letter, too. This may also gain in popularity within the next few years (I think it’s already in the UK Top 100) due to Twilight.

[name]Ana[/name]”s [ah-nah-EES] not so easy to say in english- I agree, it’s not very easy to say in English.

[name]Paloma[/name]- i feel like its getting to pop- [name]Paloma[/name] is rising, but it’s still at a relatively unpopular 789.

[name]Mariposa[/name]- hard to say in english- I think this one is a bit too long with your kids’ names. Also, if repeating initials with Mir” is an issue, I wouldn’t use it.

[name]Iris[/name]- in spanish ARCO [name]IRIS[/name] (EE reece) is a rainbow- I think this would work well with [name]Lila[/name] and Mir” since it’s four letters and two syllables as well. Also, there’s a floral theme with [name]Lila[/name]. However, a lot of people call it an “old lady” name, so it doesn’t feel as exotic to me (I’m used to pronouncing it the English way).

[name]Ciel[/name]- is it too celebrity baby?- No, I don’t think it’s too celebrity baby. After all, it’s not as high profile as, say, [name]Shiloh[/name] or [name]Seraphina[/name].

[name]Delfina[/name]- This is great, too.

From your list, I would use [name]Zinnia[/name] or [name]Paloma[/name], though I would say that [name]Zinnia[/name] is more unique. I don’t know if you’re looking for middle names, but I think [name]Delphine[/name] (variant of [name]Delfina[/name]) would be great. What do you think of [name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Delphine[/name] or [name]Paloma[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]? What are [name]Lila[/name] and Mir”'s middle names?

Good luck!

What about Shoshanna? (Show-shan-ah) It means “lily” and it seems like it would be easy in Spanish… I speak Spanish conversationally but I’m not native, so I might be wrong.

I agree [name]Paloma[/name] is getting too popular. Along with [name]Luna[/name] and [name]Isla[/name] it seems to be the go-to name for someone looking for something easy in spanish and english. I don’t think [name]Mariposa[/name] would be difficult in English though (and butterfly is a cute meaning).

[name]How[/name] about one of these:
[name]Nova[/name] - Chasing butterflies
[name]Marina[/name] - From the sea
[name]Alma[/name] - [name]Beloved[/name]
[name]Carlotta[/name] - [name]Free[/name]
[name]Blanca[/name]/[name]Bianca[/name] - White
[name]Carmen[/name]/[name]Carmel[/name] - Garden
[name]Vina[/name] - Vineyard
[name]Alba[/name] - [name]Dawn[/name]

[name]Zinnia[/name]! Definitely, what a gorgeous name! Maybe you can use these middle names

[name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Lupe[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name] Reya (which means ‘flower queen’)

[name]Hope[/name] i was a help. But i personally think [name]Zinnia[/name] Reya would be GORGEOUS! It also helps that it has a cute meaning!

In the order I like them:

[name]Iris[/name] (lovely, lovely, lovely)
[name]Zinnia[/name] (also lovely, but trying a [name]TAD[/name] too hard)
Esm” (lovely, but will be associated with the Twilight books)
[name]Ana[/name]”s (pretty, but as you say, pronunciation difficulties)
[name]Clementina[/name] (I fear [name]Clementine[/name] is suffering from the same popular bug as [name]Paloma[/name])
[name]Mariposa[/name] (eh)
[name]Delfina[/name] (eh, plus rather popular in my 'hood)
[name]Paloma[/name] (I don’t actually think this name is very pretty)
[name]Ciel[/name] (nope)

Hello cecily, thank you for your well thought out answers. They are super helpful!! My kids names differ in style as they are from different relationships. Being a name nerd I wanted their names to flow perfectly but in the end it was more important for my partner to love the name. With that said their names are [name]Lila[/name] [name]Aveline[/name], her dad just loved [name]Aveline[/name] i did too but not enough to use as a first name. Also I am not a huge fan of the fact that [name]Lila[/name] ends with an A and [name]Aveline[/name] starts with an A but her dad was passionate about it. My son is Mir” [name]Thelonius[/name] Lightning (with a hyphenated last name), I know, I know [name]WAY[/name] too long! We loved Mir”, I wanted [name]Thelonius[/name] as the mn, after the jazz singer and my partner wanted Lightning so we compromised, plus i was afraid he would push to use it for a future son.

I know [name]Clementine[/name] is to long and doesnt really go with my kids names, But had Miro been a girl we would have used [name]Clementine[/name]. It is a name I have loved since I was preg w [name]Lila[/name].

zinnia is my fav so glad you like it!

[name]Ana[/name]”s was also on my list when i was preg with [name]Lila[/name]. It is the name of my closest cousin and i have always loved it. However my partner says its too complicated

[name]Iris[/name]- i agree that many ppl thin of it was an old lady name I dont as the only [name]Iris[/name] i know is 25. I would pronounce it the american way as well. it just might not be special enough and i dont like the iris of the eyes thing.

[name]Mariposa[/name] is my guilty pleasure and could call her posy which follows my flower theme, not sure if i can get partner behind this one. I am not worried about repeating M as long as the names arent too similar.

[name]Paloma[/name] has been on my list since Mir” but i like it less and less.

[name]Esme[/name]- thank you for pointing out the accent thing looking like Mir”. this one has been on my list since my daughter but i got such negative feedback from friends that i took it off. I am slightly worried about popularity.

[name]Ciel[/name]- so glad you like it! I have to see if partner will go for it.

I love [name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]!!! In spanish Delfin is the word for Dolphin so i wouldnt use it with [name]Paloma[/name], two animal names not so good.

I like soshanna and yes it works well in spanish but it make me think of dress designer.

[name]How[/name] about one of these:
[name]Nova[/name] - Cute! i dont like the NO part but I like [name]Neva[/name] or neve whit means snow
[name]Marina[/name] - love but cant use its my cousins name
[name]Alma[/name] - love but cant use its my sister in laws name
[name]Carlotta[/name] - [name]Free[/name] not a fan
[name]Blanca[/name]/[name]Bianca[/name] - not a fan
[name]Carmen[/name]/[name]Carmel[/name] - bad assocation for me
[name]Vina[/name] - let me think about this one
[name]Alba[/name] - I like it but not sure if i can get over [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Alba[/name]

kiki- thank you for you input. I agree [name]Paloma[/name] is getting too generic. I love mariposa nn posy glad you like it.

so gad you like [name]Zinnia[/name]! Reya is nice but i would want a longer mn. Thanx

Thank you so much for your comments they really help. Any names you can add would help!

[name]Hi[/name] again, [name]Meryl[/name]!

Actually, I think that [name]Lila[/name] and Mir” don’t differ in style too much, especially since you pronounce [name]Lila[/name] like lee-la.

I’m so glad you like [name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]! I think it’s perfect with your kids’ names. I love how both [name]Lila[/name] and [name]Zinnia[/name] are floral and how [name]Aveline[/name] and [name]Delphine[/name] are both French with nature-related meanings. Would you use a second middle name like you did with Mir”? If you do, maybe you should use an artist name since Mir” is for [name]Joan[/name] Mir” (such a cool namesake!).

Here’s an old Nameberry blog about female cultural icons:
https://nameberry.com/blog/2009/10/28/heroine-names-worthy-women-with-notable-names-part-2-cultural-icons/

[name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Delphine[/name] [name]Marisol[/name] flows well and works easily in Spanish, in my opinion. What do you think?

Good luck!

hello cecily,

I love [name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Delphine[/name] [name]Marisol[/name]!! I am not sure if we are gonna do double mn if we do then I will give hubby free reign on the other mn. He will prob come up with 3 and we ll choose which works better with the names i like

[name]How[/name] do you feel about [name]Ocean[/name]?

Hello!

I’m glad you like [name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Delphine[/name] [name]Marisol[/name], too!

I think [name]Ocean[/name] would make a cool middle name. Word names would work well since one of Mir”'s is Lightning. However, I wouldn’t use it with [name]Delphine[/name]/[name]Delfina[/name] because, like you said, delphin is dolphin in Spanish. You may also like the French Oc”ane (o-shay-ahn).

What about:
[name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Ciel[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Ocean[/name]/Oc”ane
[name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Marisol[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Marisol[/name] [name]Ocean[/name]/Oc”ane
[name]Zinnia[/name] Oc”ane [name]Marisol[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Ocean[/name]/Oc”ane [name]Clementine[/name]/[name]Clementina[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Ocean[/name]/Oc”ane
[name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Ocean[/name]/Oc”ane [name]Paloma[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Ocean[/name]/Oc”ane [name]Ana[/name]”s
[name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Ocean[/name]/Oc”ane [name]Mariposa[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Ocean[/name]/Oc”ane [name]Iris[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Ocean[/name]/Oc”ane [name]Ciel[/name]

Hmm…maybe [name]Ocean[/name]/Oc”an would be too matchy with [name]Marisol[/name] since it means “sea and sun”. What do you think?

Some other suggestions…

[name]Beatrice[/name]/[name]Beatriz[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]/[name]Estela[/name]
[name]Felicia[/name]

Having a name that works well in Spanish/[name]German[/name] (which are similar in pronunciation) is important to me as well. I live in a predominately Hispanic area, so here are some names I hear pretty often:

[name]Lorena[/name]
[name]Rocio[/name]
[name]Rosa[/name] (I actually like the idea of this A LOT with your other children’s names, but it may be too popular for you.)
[name]Bella[/name] (The ll with the ‘y’’ sound.)
[name]Nadia[/name]
[name]Karla[/name]

Of your names, [name]Zinnia[/name] is really growing on me and I love [name]Anais[/name]. I don’t find it too difficult to pronounce in English.

hello gpro, are you german? I know that in Germany they pronounce [name]Lila[/name] leela just like latins do!! [name]Bella[/name] is out as that is my little sisters nickname. Thank you for your suggestions.

very nice combos! I like [name]Zinnia[/name] [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Ocean[/name]!!! I like word names so i would not be opposed to using [name]Ocean[/name] as a first name it is pronounced the same was in spanish. [name]Ocean[/name] seems like such a common name because you prob have said it a lot but just repeat it to your self a few times. Doesn’t O [name]SHAN[/name] should nice? I love saying it!!!

[name]Ocean[/name] does have a very appealing look and sound. It’s a fun word to say. Also, the benefit of word names is that pretty much everyone (with the exception of younger kids and foreigners) would know to say and spell them.

Personally, I wouldn’t pair [name]Ocean[/name] with another word name because something like [name]Ocean[/name] [name]Violet[/name] would sound like an violet in an ocean or a purple ocean. Some word names like [name]Zinnia[/name], [name]Paloma[/name], or [name]Clementine[/name] don’t have that same problem, though. [name]Zinnia[/name] is much more uncommon, [name]Paloma[/name] would only seem like a dove in the ocean in Spanish, and I always think of [name]Clementine[/name] as a name before the fruit.

I still love [name]Zinnia[/name] with [name]Lila[/name] and Mir”, too!
