Hendrik or Henrik

We are struggling between [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] and [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m]. I don’t want a boy who has a nickname and for sure not the nickname dick. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think kids will make fun of the name [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m] and end up calling him dick as a nickname? Which option is better, Henrick or [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m]? Or are both destin to have the nickname dick? Big brother’s is [name_m]Anders[/name_m]. Thanks!

I personally think the name [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m] has a better sound, but I think that [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] goes better with [name_m]Anders[/name_m]. As far as teasing potential, I don’t think it’s immediately obvious either way, but you will never be able to stop all teasing. He could be named anything and still be called [name_m]Dick[/name_m]. I do see your worry, though. I’d go with [name_m]Henrik[/name_m]. It’s a handsome name!

I would go with Henrick as it flows better with [name_m]Anders[/name_m] and rolls off the tongue easier than [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m], imo.

[name_m]Henrik[/name_m] seems like the better option and I doubt he would be teased.

I like [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] more than [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m], but both are nice. I agree that [name_m]Anders[/name_m] and [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] work really, really well together. I don’t really see either getting a nn, except for maybe [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (but since that’s a name in its own right, I’m not sure why that would happen?). I think [name_m]Dick[/name_m] is a pretty big stretch, especially since most people don’t like it at all anymore. [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] doesn’t even have a “D” in it, so I think the chances of [name_m]Dick[/name_m] are pretty much nil.

Good luck!

[name_m]Hendrick[/name_m] has a much better ring to it than Henrick. Also, I doubt that he would end up being called [name_m]Dick[/name_m]. If anything, I would assume [name_m]Rick[/name_m] as nickname, possibly [name_m]Henry[/name_m].

I would not anticipate the nn [name_m]Dick[/name_m] with either so I wouldn’t worry about it. I would choose [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] as I just think it’s sleeker sounding but I like both.

I also prefer [name_m]Henrik[/name_m]!

I prefer [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m].

I like [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m] better. It seems like a more complete name than [name_m]Henrik[/name_m]. I wouldn’t worry about him being given the nn dick either way.

I like [name_m]Henrik[/name_m]. I think it’s sweet and to the point!

Keeping in mind that nicknames kind of have a life of their own in spite of parents’ best laid plans, I’d go with [name_m]Henrik[/name_m]. If anything, I think you’d get [name_m]Rick[/name_m] as a nickname. I have an acquaintance with a [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] and to my knowledge he does just fine - no teasing.

It’s funny…these days kids are pretty immune to off-the-beaten-path names and just take them at face value for the most part. “Your name is Fuschia? Oh. Okay.” It’s adults who are the most critical.

I prefer [name_m]Henrik[/name_m]. nn [name_m]Dick[/name_m] is very unlikely for [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] I think.
I also think [name_m]Andres[/name_m] and [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] sounds very good together, better than [name_m]Andres[/name_m] and [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m].

I prefer [name_m]Henrik[/name_m].

Personally I like [name_m]Hendrik[/name_m] better, but I think either one would go great with [name_m]Andreas[/name_m]. But decide how you want to spell it too since you use both [name_m]Hendrik[/name_m] and [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m] and also [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] and Henrick in your post. I don’t think either one would get the nickname [name_m]Dick[/name_m].

[name_m]Dick[/name_m] is not a nn for [name_m]Henrik[/name_m], don’t worry about it. [name_m]Rick[/name_m] is the shortform for [name_m]Henrik[/name_m], or [name_m]Harry[/name_m] could even be used if you wanted.

[name_m]Henrik[/name_m] is a beautiful, clean name. [name_m]Hendrik[/name_m] is clunky with the extra “d”, and in a way almost becomes too similar to [name_m]Anders[/name_m]. [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] and [name_m]Anders[/name_m] are a perfect ft. (With [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m], some people will think you’ve named your baby [name_m]Hendrix[/name_m].)
