Hepburn?

I have a very good friend who isn’t expecting (yet) but she has already prepared the names for her kids. If it’s a boy his name will be [name]Bartholomew[/name]. If it’s a girl she wants to call her Hepburn as [name]Audrey[/name] is her favourite actress and her mom looks [name]Katharine[/name] Hepburn alike.
What do you think about her choice? I personally find it nice but I hate the meaning (high burial mound). Isn’t it too much for a little girl? And besides that what name would you choose as the MN?

I’m not a fan of it… Hepburn is not at all feminine. I much prefer [name]Audrey[/name]!

I would prefer [name]Audrey[/name] but I think Hepburn has a vintage charm  [name]Just[/name] like [name]Harlow[/name], [name]Monroe[/name] and [name]Greer[/name] it has a vintage Hollywood vibe that I really like! The only thing that bugs me about it is that there are no really good NNs for it, Hep and [name]Burn[/name] don’t sound very appealing. Maybe [name]Burnie[/name], I knew a [name]Bernadette[/name] who went by [name]Bernie[/name] but still not a very attractive choice.

While giving babies the surnames of celebrated actresses is currently very trendy, some of those surnames just aren’t as awesome as first names. Names like [name]Harlow[/name], [name]Leigh[/name], [name]Monroe[/name], [name]Greer[/name]–I don’t really like them, but I can appreciate them. However, I hear “Hepburn” as a first name, and I think “Heartburn.” The double-stop of the /-p/ and /-b/ is also very harsh. I could actually even see it as a boy’s name before a girl’s–at least he could pull off “Hep” as in “hep cat” or [name]Burney[/name] as a cool nn, whereas a little girl may have more trouble with a name that is so stalwartly masculine.

Maybe she could just go with “[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Katherine[/name]” for her daughter, or even just “[name]Bernadette[/name],” as [name]Melissa[/name] Rauch’s [name]Bernadette[/name] on The Big Bang [name]Theory[/name] is bringing awesomeness back to that name. Maybe she could even just use it as a mn, where it would fit much better?

I love vintage Hollywood surnames, but Hepburn is a difficult one to pull off. My main problem is the ‘burn’ ending. As pp said, the name has 2 distinct syllables that do not flow that well for a first name.
I have thought of it though as I love [name]Katharine[/name] Hepburn, but I would only consider it in the middle slot.

I totally hear heartburn too! I think [name]Bernadette[/name] is really different but familiar and so cute w nn [name]Birdie[/name] and could maybe be a roundabout way of referencing old Hollywood. Or [name]Katherine[/name] or [name]Audrey[/name], which I don’t love, but are very nice names.

I also hear heartburn!

I have nothing against the sound of the name, or the surname as firstname. I’d vote against it because it’s a bit showy, and falls into the attention-seeking category. Certainly between the two Hepburns there’s a fabulous character name that would do the trick.

What about Hepburn for a middle name if it must be used? I think it is a miss as a first name.

i understand the motivation behind her choice but the sound of hepburn just reminds me of hepatisis b. i think harlow or audrey or kate would all be sweeter choices. it will probably all change though… i had a list a mile long but once i was actually pregnant very few of them felt like they were right for my baby. i could only picture calling a few of the names for the next 50 years.

First off, thank you for spelling [name]Katharine[/name] correctly. Ms. Hepburn was an amazing actress, one of my favorites. I would put Hepburn in the middle, but if she wants itin the first spot, how about something decidedly feminine to pair with the masculinity that surnames generally have.

Hepburn Cecille
Hepburn [name]Georgiana[/name]
Hepburn [name]Liana[/name]
Hepburn [name]Marietta[/name]
Hepburn [name]Richelle[/name]
Hepburn [name]Fiona[/name]
Hepburn [name]Juliette[/name]
Hepburn [name]Eleanor[/name]
Hepburn [name]Amelia[/name]
Hepburn [name]Josephine[/name]
Hepburn [name]Rosemary[/name]

I love [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn too, but I don’t think Hepburn would make a very nice first name for a little girl. It doesn’t have a very pretty sound to it.

[name]Audrey[/name] is lovely though!

I think it’s a great for a middle name. Something that harkens back to the glamorous days of Hollywood, like [name]Monroe[/name], [name]Garbo[/name], [name]Harlow[/name]…

Not a fan.
I dislike most surnames as first names and I feel like when you name your little girl after an actress it’s kind of a cheap namesake. I would rather honor family or someone a little more important. Some actresses make valuable contributions to society, some are iconic, some are rather tragic figures…
If you name a child Hepburn and your last name is [name]Terrell[/name] you’ve got a name that will confuse people.

What about naming her [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Katharine[/name] or [name]Katharine[/name] [name]Audrey[/name]? Those would be perfectly lovely names. I find the entire celebrity surname trend to be a little strange. By using the surname, you aren’t just honoring that individual, but their entire family. I personally would never name a child after someone I had no connection to.

I don’t find the sound appealing at all for a name. I can’t imagine calling out ‘Hepburn!’ on the playground, it sounds awful [name]IMO[/name].

Oh I hope she uses it in middle only! Reminds me of hepatitis skin burns (hep-burn). Not lady-like or pretty at all!

I like the [name]Harlow[/name] fad thing but hepburns is just belch. Other great Hollywood actresses to consider: [name]Greta[/name] [name]Garbo[/name], [name]Greer[/name] [name]Garson[/name], [name]Mae[/name] [name]West[/name], [name]Vivien[/name] [name]Leigh[/name], [name]Brigitte[/name] [name]Bardot[/name], Cyd [name]Charisse[/name], [name]Bette[/name] [name]Davis[/name], [name]Judy[/name] [name]Garland[/name], [name]Rita[/name] Hayworth, [name]Clara[/name] [name]Bow[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Taylor[/name], [name]Veronica[/name] [name]Lake[/name], Harlean [name]Harlow[/name] Carpenter, [name]Ava[/name] [name]Lavinia[/name] [name]Gardner[/name].

Sounds like aname all their stoner friends will have fun with later in life. Too harsh to pull off imo

Im afraid Hepburn doesnt sound at all pretty or feminine to me. It sounds more like some kind of illness/ailment. Wasnt it also the name of a one-hit-wonder band? I much prefer [name]Audrey[/name]! [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Kate[/name] (to honor both audrey hepburn and your friends mum being a katharine hepburn look-alike!) is gorgeous!
