Hera and Hero

Because someone was asking about [name]Hera[/name] in a thread I started wondering about this…

Visually it would be odd to have siblings with names [name]Hera[/name] and [name]Hero[/name] but are they too close? (say for mn’s, nn’).
[name]Hera[/name] -> heh-ra
[name]Hero[/name] -> heer-o

I like both names very much, but I do think that they would be too close for siblings. I guess you could get away with it more if you used one as a first name for one child and the other as a middle name for another child, just because it wouldn’t come up very much, but I don’t think that I would do it personally.

Waaaaaaaaay too close.

Maaaybe for mn’s, and maaaybe for twins if you’re into that kind of matchy-matchy thing, but too close for my taste.

On paper they’re too close but by sound, not really

From my experience I mostly hear people pronounce [name]Hera[/name] as “hair-ah”. I pronounce [name]Hero[/name] as “HE-ro” so to my ears [name]Hero[/name] and [name]Hera[/name] sound quite different

Also I only like [name]Hero[/name] on a boy, -o names sound masculine to me

@nat108 that’s kind of how I feel. Saying them out loud I’d say “go for it” but then you write them down and it’s a little odd. Though I didn’t consider [name]Hero[/name] for a boy. Could be cute for mn’s of twins like [name]Apollo[/name] and [name]Artemis[/name] but different.
