I know I post a lot lately but I have plenty of time and i’am bored. Anyway if you can see from my signature I add the name [name_f]Hera[/name_f]. I was talking with my mom and she suggest it to me. [name_f]Hera[/name_f] ( I pronounce it EE -rah) was a Greek goddess and the wife of [name_m]Zeus[/name_m]. I like that name but she wasn’t exactly my favorite goddess.
Anyway what are your opinions on that name??
You like it or not??
Also which spelling you think it’s more usable? [name_f]Hera[/name_f] or [name_u]Ira[/name_u]?
I like the name [name_f]Hera[/name_f], but I’ve only heard it hear-uh or hair-uh; I’ve never heard it ee-rah.
Any Greek experts want to clarify?
Anyway, she’s not my favorite goddess, either, but how much that matters is a matter of personal taste. Some people require that a name has a lineage of strong women behind it, others want what’s ‘in’ at the moment. To each her own.
[name_u]Ira[/name_u], though, to me that’s all-boy. I’ve also only heard that as eye-ruh, with a long i. Kind of an old man name. And then there’s the Irish Republican [name_m]Army[/name_m] ([name_u]IRA[/name_u]) and Individual Retirement Account ([name_u]IRA[/name_u])…so…not something I’d put on my own list.
I’ve also heard [name_f]Hera[/name_f] Hair-uh or occasionally Heer-uh…never Ear-uh. And yeah, don’t do [name_u]Ira[/name_u] for reasons stated above. ^
It’s written epsilon-rota-alfa ([name_f]Era[/name_f]), but has specific old Greek accent hac. If word has hac accent on the beginning, it’s written with a -h- sound. So, it’s written hac[name_f]Era[/name_f], but pronounced Haira.
[name_f]Hera[/name_f] is hair-ah, not ee-rah. If you want ee-rah, spell it some other way, not [name_u]Ira[/name_u] for previously stated reasons. The letter that make up [name_f]Hera[/name_f] make it be pronounced hair-ah.
As far as the name and the goddess go, [name_f]Hera[/name_f] has her problems, so do all the other Greek deities. She’s mean and sort of a B**** but then again, wouldn’t you be if your husband was screwing around behind your back all the time? I feel like SO many people like [name_f]Juno[/name_f] and they are the exact same goddess so you can’t really like [name_f]Juno[/name_f] and then turn around and say “Oh [name_f]Hera[/name_f] is mean and awful so I don’t like the name” well [name_f]Juno[/name_f] was also mean and awful.
As a name, I like it. It’s lovely. It has a really nice sound but for the hair-ah sound, I would use [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] (hair-me-oh-nee in Greek) but I know that thanks to [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], no one will ever say it that way.
Well i’am pretty sure we pronounce it Ee-rah in Greece but I dont know in USA.I definitely don’t like the Hair - ah pronucation.
@peacebird10 : she is not my favorite goddess either. I know(not personally) a girl from [name_f]Russia[/name_f] named [name_u]Ira[/name_u]. I don’t know how it pronounced it. @namecrazy59 : I actually first time think about the reasons not spelling [name_u]Ira[/name_u] and I definitely understand your point. As for the pr. I guess it’s a country thing.
[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] [name_f]Larissa[/name_f] : don’t worry, I prefer other names from my list also. @sorceress : I have met a woman pr. Ee-rah in Greece so I will continue pr. It that way but I understand if it pr.different elsewhere. @dantea : I guess I have a problem since we pronounce [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] Er - mee - oh - nee lol. Anyway I definitely understand your point about [name_f]Hera[/name_f]. I agree that all the gods have their problems.
My main experience with this name is from [name_f]Xena[/name_f] and [name_m]Hercules[/name_m], those dorky ancient Greece shows from the 90’s. And [name_f]Hera[/name_f] was always a villain. So I’d automatically pronounce it hair-uh and have a negative association. So, for me, it’s like using [name_f]Ursula[/name_f].
Thanks @anastasia_rose Iam not sure on pronoucantion either and iam Greek
Thanks @kala_way I agree about [name_f]Hera[/name_f] having a negative association . I dont think i would ever use it . I prefer [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] way more . [name_f]Juno[/name_f] is interesting . Thanks for the suugestion
Why [name_f]Hera[/name_f], Bells? She wasn’t the sweetest girl from the pantheon; she tried to kill or harm [name_m]Zeus[/name_m]'s lovies and often got mad; think [name_f]Callisto[/name_f] story, for example. Why not [name_f]Athena[/name_f], [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], or, you have [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] on the list also, so why not her? Name [name_f]Hera[/name_f] is doomed to be mispronounced, well.
Yes, i’am actually pregnant. I am feeling well, no morning sickness or anything but i’am very early. Thanks for asking
I don’t know why like [name_f]Hera[/name_f]. I don’t like the myth but I think it has a lovely sound. As you said I have [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] on my list. I love [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] & [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] way more than [name_f]Hera[/name_f] but it’s intrigued me. Anyway I doubt I would use any goddess name.
