Herbie

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I like all the nicknamey boys names ([name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] etc) and have been thinkingof using [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] or [name_m]Albert[/name_m] as our boys name (probably leaning towards [name_m]Albert[/name_m]/[name_u]Bertie[/name_u] as [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] are getting very common here in the UK). I recently read a magazine article and the son was called [name_m]Herbie[/name_m] and it had me intrigued, the only problem I can see is I’m not sure about the name [name_m]Herbert[/name_m]!! I’d really like a long name not just a nickname…are there any alternatives to [name_m]Herbert[/name_m] or is it less unusable than I think?
Thanks!!

I can’t think of any more “herb” names, but here are some “her” names:

[name_m]Herman[/name_m]
[name_m]Hercules[/name_m]
[name_m]Herold[/name_m]
[name_m]Hermes[/name_m]

Or maybe just [name_m]Herb[/name_m]?

[name_m]Herberto[/name_m] is kind of cool! [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Herbie[/name_m]!

I couldn’t find/think of any Herb- names either… besides Herbert, Herberto, Heribert, Heriberto, Haribert.
If you are okay with changing the letter around a bit Berthold, Bernhart etc might work. (But I then like Bertie better then Herbie).
But you could always go with a Her- fn and a B- middle.
Heracles Benedict, Herman Benjamin, or Hershel Baptista (or whatever else you come up with).

Another suggestion would be to use the name of an Herb as a fn and Herbie as a nn. This is a little bit of a stretch but could work if you feel comfortable with is. Examples: Basil, Sage, Coriander, Quince, Fennel or Yarrow.

Thanks so much! [name_m]Herberto[/name_m] is cool but maybe too italian sounding possibly? I love the idea of a her… name with a b second name. We quite like bartholemew as I second so maybe that’d work! I also love basil but was worried due to fawlty towers (old uk tv thing) so herb might be a great way around that too… so many choices!! Definitely food for thought you’re great!

I went to school with a [name_m]Herbie[/name_m]! He was named after his grandfather. I think it is cute.

Your list is absolutely delicious!

And I adore [name_m]Herbert[/name_m].

P.S. Also love the nickname [name_m]Albie[/name_m] for [name_m]Albert[/name_m] :).
