Hello!
[name_f][/name_f]I have a hermit crab named [name_f]Strawberry[/name_f] (thinking of adding [name_m]Francis[/name_m] as a middle name; my pets who do not have to be able to respond to a name often get wild names, like the legendary betta named [name_f]Pink[/name_f] [name_f]Dory[/name_f] [name_m]Zacharias[/name_m] Phantom Pearl). [name_f]My[/name_f] other hermie, Geode, died last week (rip, Geo), and I am looking to get [name_f]Strawberry[/name_f] another friend. So now I am looking for new fun names for the next 2-3 hermies. They can potentially live up to 40 years, so I want to have really good names for them.
[name_f][/name_f]The first time I was considering Snippet, [name_m]Tailor[/name_m], Skittle, and Crabapple. [name_f]Strawberry[/name_f] got his name because he was a beautiful bright red, and about the size of a strawberry (although he is actually not the breed of hermit crab called strawberries). Geode was a precious little treasure inside of a shell, which reminded me of geodes.
[name_f][/name_f]Current favourites are [name_m]Marble[/name_m] and [name_f]Pebbles[/name_f], sort of building on some of the same thought process as Geode. I also like [name_f]Arabesque[/name_f], as I am a balletomane. I also love Coconut and Avocado, names that I have seen others use for hermies, but I love unique names and don’t want to just copy someone else.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]My[/name_f] sister just suggested that I go with a [name_f]Strawberry[/name_f] Shortcake theme, which would be cute!
[name_f][/name_f]For an idea of how I tend to go when naming my pets, here’s a list of my fish that I have had since I was a teen. For note, the theme across their names has been including Z names. I LOVE themes!
[name_f][/name_f]Zipper
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Zen[/name_m] (Zenbow)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Zipporah[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]Zodiac [name_f]Galaxy[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Zion[/name_m] [name_m]Olympus[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]Zulily [name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Zebedee[/name_m] [name_m]Murray[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Pink[/name_f] [name_f]Dory[/name_f] Zaccharias Phantom [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]Frostbite [name_m]Zeppelin[/name_m] [name_m]Zephyr[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]Samosa Zillow [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]Chutney Zest [name_m]Crandall[/name_m] (still swimming)
[name_m]Future[/name_m] name ideas for non-hermit crab pets include Gadget, [name_f]Posy[/name_f], [name_m]Carrington[/name_m], Peeve, Pirouette.
[name_f][/name_f]I have also had snails Paratrooper Pudding [name_m]Reynolds[/name_m], [name_m]Colonel[/name_m] Custard Mustard, Raisin Vocalist, and [name_m]Mario[/name_m] (after [name_m]Mario[/name_m] Kart). I also had cories named [name_m]Gibbs[/name_m] [name_m]Long[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] Peppermint, McNally, and Martian.
[name_f][/name_f]Other pet names have been [name_f]Shadow[/name_f] and Skor (guinea pigs when I was a teen), and my dog [name_m]Jack[/name_m] (not named by me; my favourite nickname for him is [name_m]Pumpkin[/name_m] Pie with Button Eyes).
[name_f][/name_f]I tend to love names that bring a smile to someone’s face when they hear them, names that incorporate food somehow, and ones that do lend themselves to a definable theme.
[name_f][/name_f]So, if you somehow survived this ramble about my naming obsession when it comes to my pets, give me any ideas that you have! After all, a hermit crab doesn’t really respond to its name, so it might as well be all fun and games! Thank you!
