High-risk pregnancy...30 wks...emergency c-section...why might have baby not made it?

[name]Hi[/name] Berries.

A sad topic, I know. Not my own situation, but a friend of a friends (I can’t even imagine the pain she must be going through). Since my friend and I both feel it’s not appropriate to pry or ask very many questions at this time, I wanted to reach out with a few of my own to see if anyone here has possible answers. Please know that these aren’t being asked out of selfishness or just complete nosiness, rather due to my lack of knowledge on this matter.

  • She traveled by car from South [name]Florida[/name] to Pittsburg over the course of 2 days, went into labor the next. Could the long car ride have induced her labor?

  • What many things could have caused an emergency c-section, and for the baby to not make it? I’m unaware whether it was a stillbirth or the child died after birth (I’m guessing the latter because the dad said “it had too many problems”, though that is all I know). If that’s the case, can’t most babies survive in the NICU at 30 weeks?

  • The other question is how long does recovery take from an emergency c-section? Any longer than a regular c-section? This of course isn’t even counting the pain the mom must be going through (physical and mental), but I ask because she was supposed to be a bridesmaid in my friend’s wedding in two weeks. Her husband was going to be the best man. My friend is of course upset, but very empathetic and passionate about the whole ordeal. If the mom and dad can’t make the wedding, she understands. So, do you all think 2 weeks recovery would give her enough time to be able to get up and move about if she chose to attend? And, if you Berries were in this situation, would you still go?

Thanks so much.
