We really like the name [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] (to me it sounds like a strong Scandinavian super-model who can also sail the seven seas)
But my friend told me that it sounds like an overweight witch.
Any thoughts?!

I don’t really see [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] as either.
I don’t really think of a young scandinavian supermodel but rather an older women (not an overweight witch).
To me it’s not quite ready to come back on it’s own since there are still so many older ones around.
I do like like it as a nickname, maybe even for a name like [name_u]Mat[/name_u]hilda.
Usually I don’t care to much about having a choice and would opt for the version you like better.
However with names that are very out of style/grandma-and-only-grandma-names, even if they’re nice, I think it’s fair to give the child another option that is a bit more ‘modern’).
I think [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] is really pretty! I like the old fashioned names that aren’t used as much, like [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], or [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]
This is a pretty name! It does have kind of a Scandinavian “supermodel” vibe, which is very cool. I say go for it! I definitely would not think of an overweight witch, lol.
I think it would make a great middle name! I don’t see it as either extreme (supermodel vs witch), I see a nice, kind, yet bold, older woman. It is usable, just personally I’d put it in the middle spot
I agree completely ![]()
I really like [name_f]Hilda[/name_f]! I have a really close friend called [name_f]Hilda[/name_f], and she doesn’t have any problems with it. She’s funny, pretty, popular… I find it kind of annoying when people act like unusual, old names are some sort of death sentence for young girls (I know an [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] my age, a [name_f]Polly[/name_f], a [name_f]Greta[/name_f], lots of Alices - none of them have any trouble at all).
She’s has had a witch comment once (she’s got long black and pale skin which doesn’t help) ‘’[name_f]Hilda[/name_f], is that your witch name’’ or something, but she handled it flawlessly.
Oh cool! I’ve thought about the name [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] as well! I like it! Where I live it’s a young-sounding name, and the variant [name_f]Hildur[/name_f] is really popular on women and girls of all ages. [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] even sounds like a modern, trendy version of [name_f]Hildur[/name_f] I would say, as well as a nickname for [name_f]Hildur[/name_f] and all names ending in -hildur. I imagine some people might even say it was cutesy for a full name… Although [name_f]Hildur[/name_f] is really tough, yet still sweet.
It’s a totally different image in the English-speaking world, though. Ultimately I’d probably shy away from it but I would love to see its image change so I do urge you to use it if you like it!
I actually kind of like [name_f]Hilda[/name_f]. [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] [name_u]Joan[/name_u] [name_m]Hart[/name_m]'s aunt in the show [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] the Teenaged Witch, was named [name_f]Hilda[/name_f], and she was pretty cool.
I quite like [name_f]Hilda[/name_f]. It is an old [name_m]German[/name_m] name. Longer forms include [name_f]Hildegarde[/name_f] and [name_f]Brunhilda[/name_f]. [name_f]Hildi[/name_f] and [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] are also great.
I see [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] as homely. [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] is great though, esp as a nn for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].
