Being a history nerd I figured that putting a famous pair as the middle names for twins would be a good way to tie them together without being over the top.
Ideas so far:
[name]Romulus[/name] and [name]Remus[/name]
Ceaser and [name]Brutus[/name]
[name]Antony[/name] and [name]Cleopatra[/name]
[name]Isis[/name] and [name]Osiris[/name]
[name]Louis[/name]/[name]Lewis[/name] and [name]Clark[/name]
[name]Bonnie[/name] and [name]Clyde[/name]
[name]Jack[/name] and [name]Diane[/name] (not history but still)
Doing lovers might be kind of weird if they are siblings, but: [name]Romeo[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Jack[/name] and [name]Jill[/name], [name]Bruce[/name] and [name]Robin[/name] ;), [name]Gilbert[/name] and [name]Sullivan[/name],
[name]Caesar[/name] and [name]Cleopatra[/name] (one of the world’s most famous love stories, [name]Caesar[/name] and [name]Cleo[/name] could work) [name]Alexander[/name] ([name]Helios[/name]) and [name]Cleopatra[/name] ([name]Selene[/name]) (the twins of [name]Cleopatra[/name] VII, above, and [name]Mark[/name] [name]Antony[/name]) [name]William[/name] and [name]Mary[/name] (husband and wife, who co-ruled [name]England[/name] together from 1689-1694) [name]Napoleon[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] (Bonaparte and de Beauharnais, who were very much in love. Is [name]Napoleon[/name] a stretch? I personally don’t think I’d name my son [name]Napoleon[/name], I do however like Bonaparte as a middle name. You could also use the feminine version of [name]Napoleon[/name]: [name]Napoleone[/name], it’s very beautiful) [name]Albert[/name] and [name]Victoria[/name] ([name]Queen[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] and her [name]Prince[/name] [name]Albert[/name], my own personal favourite because they were so much in love. It could be [name]Alberta[/name] and [name]Victoria[/name], or [name]Albert[/name] and [name]Victor[/name] too. And let’s face it, their names just go really well together) [name]Heathcliff[/name] and [name]Catherine[/name] (had to mention them since Wuthering Heights is my favourite book of all time, [name]Heathcliff[/name] might be a big mouthful of a name, but [name]Heath[/name] and [name]Catherine[/name]/[name]Kate[/name] sounds adorable) [name]Pierre[/name] and [name]Marie[/name] (Curie, married geniuses) [name]Franklin[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name] ([name]Roosevelt[/name], my favourite political pairing) [name]Nicholas[/name] and [name]Alexandra[/name] (the last Tsar of [name]Russia[/name] and his very beloved wife, [name]Alexandra[/name] Feodorovna) [name]Edward[/name] and [name]Jane[/name] ([name]Rochester[/name] and [name]Eyre[/name], one of the literatures most lovely love stories) [name]Perseus[/name] and [name]Andromeda[/name] (one of Greek mythology’s biggest love stories, though I don’t think it can beat [name]Paris[/name] and [name]Helen[/name]).
I don’t think I’d name my son [name]Napoleon[/name] either, even though I like the name.
Favorites:
[name]Pierre[/name] and [name]Marie[/name]
[name]Paris[/name] and [name]Helen[/name]
and if I could ever get DH to agree [name]Helios[/name] and [name]Selene[/name].
I love the idea of linked historical names, but I would not go with lovers or traitors. As much as I love [name]Roman[/name] history, [name]Romulus[/name] killed his twin most likely with a shovel (or shoved him off a wall). My favorite is [name]Lewis[/name] and [name]Clarke[/name]!
I’ve always been a huge Revolutionary War-era nerd so I’ve always thought it would be cute to have twin boys named [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Franklin[/name] “[name]Ben[/name]” and [name]Thomas[/name] [name]Jefferson[/name] “[name]Tom[/name]” I think the names go well together but are common/classic enough that it wouldn’t be embarassing.
I would stay away from your original suggestion of [name]Caesar[/name] and [name]Brutus[/name], isn’t [name]Brutus[/name] involved in [name]Caesar[/name]'s death? I also think [name]Romulus[/name] killed [name]Remus[/name]. I think [name]Castor[/name] and [name]Pollux[/name] would be fun – they are the names of the twins in the [name]Gemini[/name] constellation. I think of them more as stars than as people but I’m sure they have a myth too. I think doing a love match might be weird but might be cute, especially as middles! I like the past suggestion of [name]Albert[/name] and [name]Victoria[/name]. I also think the [name]Wright[/name] brothers could be cool, [name]Wilbur[/name] and [name]Orville[/name], although they weren’t twins. Other pairs I can think of are [name]Fred[/name] (Astaire) and [name]Ginger[/name] ([name]Rogers[/name]), [name]John[/name] ([name]Lennon[/name]) and [name]Paul[/name] (McCartney), and [name]Damon[/name] and Pythias. Other possibly weirder ideas are [name]Bert[/name] and [name]Ernie[/name], [name]Butch[/name] [name]Cassidy[/name] and the [name]Sundance[/name] Kid, and the two pirates [name]Anne[/name] [name]Bonny[/name] and [name]Mary[/name] [name]Read[/name].
[name]Anne[/name] and [name]Mary[/name] would be my pick for girls. I also like [name]Butch[/name] [name]Cassidy[/name] and the [name]Sundance[/name] kid.
I don’t know if the association of killing one another is enough to throw me off the name if I really like them.
I think using names of lovers on your children is a little bit creepy, but…
from myths:
[name]Selene[/name] & [name]Endymion[/name]
[name]Eurydice[/name] & [name]Orpheus[/name]
[name]Calypso[/name] & [name]Odysseus[/name]
[name]Circe[/name] & [name]Odysseus[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] & [name]Odysseus[/name]
[name]Andromache[/name] & [name]Hector[/name]
[name]Ariadne[/name] & [name]Dionysus[/name]
[name]Hera[/name] & [name]Zeus[/name]
[name]Tristan[/name] & [name]Isolde[/name]/[name]Iseult[/name]
[name]Eros[/name] & [name]Psyche[/name]
[name]Hero[/name] & [name]Leander[/name]
Sif & [name]Tor[/name]
[name]Bruce[/name] and [name]Robin[/name] (i’m a batman fanatic but hey it works for a boy and girl)
[name]Rhett[/name] and [name]Scarlet[/name] (gone with the wind)
[name]Clarke[/name] or [name]Kent[/name] and [name]Lois[/name] or [name]Lane[/name] (superman what can I say heroes are always going to be classic)
[name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Darcy[/name] (Pride and Prejudice)
[name]Peter[/name] and [name]James[/name] or [name]Reed[/name]/ [name]Reid[/name] ([name]Adam[/name] 12 Classic and true partners)
[name]George[/name] and [name]Ira[/name] ( [name]Gershwin[/name]'s the composers)
[name]Holmes[/name] and [name]Watson[/name] (might be cliche with all the new stuff but hey I love some [name]Sherlock[/name])
[name]Jack[/name] and [name]Jil[/name]
[name]Samson[/name]/ [name]Sam[/name] and [name]Delilah[/name] (Bible)
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Louie[/name] (duet singing/playing)
Ok I’m done lol
Naming twins [name]Remus[/name] and [name]Romulus[/name], even just in the middle, is very creppy considering [name]Romulus[/name] murdered [name]Remus[/name]. Not historical but I do love the idea [name]Fred[/name] and [name]George[/name] for twin boys, even if it’s kind of cheesy.
I’m almost positive I could get my husband to go for [name]Fred[/name] and [name]George[/name] (and if anybody is offput by it, they’re both family names as well ;))
[name]Heath[/name] Ledger and his sister [name]Kate[/name] were named after [name]Heathcliff[/name] and [name]Catherine[/name] from Wuthering Heights
