Hey all this is one of my first posts here, I’ve been lurking for a while though.
I’m not expecting but I’m a long time name lover and my partner and I have been talking about kids lately and although it’s probably another year or two off it’s got me thinking.
I’ve loved the name [name_m]Holden[/name_m] for a boy since I was a teenager. I love the reference to Catcher in the [name_m]Rye[/name_m], since that book meant a lot to me as a teen. [name_f]My[/name_f] partner likes the name as well though isn’t as attached to it as I am. I’m worried about the possibility of this hypothetical child being teased.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you know anyone named [name_m]Holden[/name_m]? Did they get teased a lot?
The last name would be [name_m]Hines[/name_m]. Does [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Hines[/name_m] sound okay? Would the right middle name (or double middle names) help it flow better? Middle name couldn’t start with a B because although we have joked about it we wouldn’t actually want our kid to be [name_m]Holden[/name_m] B. [name_m]Hines[/name_m].
I originally loved [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] but I don’t think it sounds right with the last name [name_m]Hines[/name_m]. What middle names might flow with the first and last name?
I know one [name_m]Holden[/name_m] who has never gotten teased about his name. I don’t think [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Hines[/name_m] flows well at all though, sorry. Middle names are hardly used; so unless you plan on using it all the name, it would always be [name_m]Holden[/name_m] or [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Hines[/name_m].
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] flows nice but I don’t love it.
I know twin boys that go by their middle names ([name_m]Brooks[/name_m] and [name_m]Holden[/name_m]). I can’t remember their first names because they are never used. To my knowledge, neither are teased (they are in kindergarten). I personally love the name [name_m]Holden[/name_m] and love Catch 22.
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] sounds fine to my ear, but I am not a fan of [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Hines[/name_m] (sounds like a new product by the [name_m]Hines[/name_m] company). But that’s just me. I kind of like the idea of using [name_m]Holden[/name_m] as a middle name & calling him [name_m]Holden[/name_m], thus giving him the option (when he is able/old enough) of choosing to use his first name instead. Then again, I’m from an area where many people do this sort of thing (calling themselves something other than their given first name) so perhaps my suggestion just sounds odd.
With no disrespect intended, if the HH combo simply becomes untenable, you could always name your next pet [name_m]Holden[/name_m].
Oooh! I love the name [name_m]Holden[/name_m], and yes, Catcher in the [name_m]Rye[/name_m] is a big reason behind my love!
I do not think [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Hines[/name_m] flows well…with both the “s” sounds…
I suggest
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] [name_m]Hines[/name_m] (If you want a “J” name like [name_u]James[/name_u], this is my favorite!)
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_u]Jay[/name_u] [name_m]Hines[/name_m]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_m]Hines[/name_m]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_u]Seth[/name_u]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Ryker[/name_m]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] (This is one of my favorites as well…however maybe too many H names? Recently someone made the connection of the name [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] to [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m], never stood out to me before, just love the name and nn potential, but both now being literary names, this could be a great choice! With Catcher and the [name_m]Rye[/name_m] and The [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] Letter both being about “outsiders”…I don’t know food for thought)
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] ( Going with HC initails like [name_m]Holden[/name_m] Caulfield, I think this is my favorite HC)
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Levi[/name_m] (I love this one too!)
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Liam[/name_m] (The idea for the name [name_m]Holden[/name_m] in the book came from the film Dear [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], starring [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Holden[/name_m] and [name_u]Joan[/name_u] Caulfield. So while you could use [name_m]William[/name_m], I think [name_m]Liam[/name_m] sounds much better. [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Hines[/name_m], flows wonderfully! Or…I think [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] [name_m]Hines[/name_m] also sounds lovely! [name_m]Jonas[/name_m]? [name_m]Johnathan[/name_m]? [name_m]Joel[/name_m]?)
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m](This one too!)
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Randall[/name_m]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Matthias[/name_m]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_u]Ira[/name_u]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] (This one flows so great!)
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_u]Drew[/name_u]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_u]Grey[/name_u]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Grant[/name_m]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Micheal[/name_m]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Kaden[/name_m]/[name_u]Kade[/name_u]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Kale[/name_m]
(You could go complete Catcher in the [name_m]Rye[/name_m]…and use either of the names of the author…[name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Jerome[/name_m] or [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m]. [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Salinger[/name_m] might be a bit much. But I actually quite like [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m] [name_m]Hines[/name_m], and not too many people would name it was like JD [name_m]Salinger[/name_m] using [name_m]David[/name_m].)
[name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear that maybe the kid won’t get teased for his name.
I really like the combos [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_u]Grey[/name_u], [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], & [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m]. I also like the sound of [name_m]Holden[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] but I think the triple H would just be too much.
I hadn’t thought of going further with the literary reference but it’s a thought worth exploring.
Collmcc523 - I know that that’s more common in the south for people to go by a middle name or something. It’s not really that common here but it’s an interesting idea.
