So I was browsing names last night and found the name [name]Holt[/name]. What do y’all think of it? I really like the meaning “son of the unspoiled forests”. I’m just wondering about some opinions on it? Problems, concerns? Thanks!
Well I like it and I think it matches current trends, but it all I can think of is shouting, “Halt!” because in my accent halt and [name]Holt[/name] sound the same.
Yeah, I suppose it’s good if you’re not British It’s very direct, kind of reminds me of [name]Grant[/name], which I love
Thanks. For me, they are a different sound, but I wandered if people would think halt. I say [name]Holt[/name] with a long o like [name]Oak[/name], but I can see how they would be very similar with a different accent.
Well, if you lived in [name]America[/name], it wouldn’t really matter. I’ve yet to meet a British person in real life. I say it with a long o as well. Maybe it would work better as a middle name though, just in case
I think it’s a solid, masculine name and would work well, provided you don’t live in a place where the regional accent is going to turn it into “Hote.” I do, and that’s not bashing the locals, since I am one.
[name]Steve[/name] [name]Holt[/name]!!
[name]Melissa[/name], the L in [name]Holt[/name] is a bit hard for some people to say. I have to kinda work at it myself
meogan, Is it bad that I have no idea who [name]Steve[/name] [name]Holt[/name] is? I’m very behind when it comes to anything dealing with pop culture.
I was thinking I’ll probably have to drop this name because of my grandfather anyway. He has a stutter (since he was a child) and h words are particularly hard for him. I had forgotten that was why I never considered any H names for my first kiddo. Thanks everyone for your opinions though. I might keep it in the possible middle name spot. I love names with good meanings
I love, love, love [name]Holt[/name]! I love it by itself, but you reminded me that it could be a great nickname for one of my fave names, [name]Hollis[/name]. Give [name]Hollis[/name] a middle name that starts with a T and i’m set. Go for it if you love it!
xo [name]Viv[/name]
It’s not too bad. It’s a reference from Arrested Development, which was pretty much the best TV show ever made. It’s on netflix, you should watch it.
I actually found [name]Holt[/name] today on another site and thought it was cool. Third son coming in 8 weeks and we still haven’t decided. We have sons named [name]Wyatt[/name] and [name]Cole[/name].
Good luck!
Makes me think of [name]Hoyt[/name] which makes me think [name]True[/name] Blood the tv show.
I like it. Sounds very strong.
My first thought was [name]Hoyt[/name] from [name]Texas[/name] Chain Saw Massacre… Not too sure why. But I do think [name]Holt[/name] is strong handsome name, I could see a southern family using it.
There is a hoity toity store here called [name]Holt[/name] Renfrew, which has become synonymous with pretentiousness, so I’m sorry to say I can’t like [name]Holt[/name].
Thanks everyone! I still like it, even though it will probably have to be a middle name. I’m a sucker for a name with a good meaning
As far as names that reference forests, I prefer [name]Silas[/name] or the more direct (if somewhat obvious) [name]Forest[/name]. As far as nature names, that are also H names, I like [name]Heath[/name] and [name]Hart[/name]. Tree names, I like [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Linden[/name].
Not very keen on [name]Holt[/name] compared to any of these, honestly. I am not sure why I like [name]Hart[/name] more since they are so close, but I do. Of course it may work the opposite way for you.
