Honest opinion on the name Alessia?

I posted earlier about a few names I’ve been pondering and I’m so indecisive it’s driving me nuts lol. Between DH and I having completely different name styles and me constantly picking names apart, I feel like this process will be never ending. With that being said, DH and I were discussing names earlier and he brought [name]Alexandra[/name] into the mix. He really likes the idea of [name]Alex[/name] as a nickname. I like [name]Alexandra[/name] because it already fits the name style I like which is feminine and classy but it misses one very important thing. It’s not at all unique or uncommon and to be quite honest I think it’s a bit harsh sounding. Anyway, I was doing a little research on the name and came across [name]Alessia[/name] and thought WOW what a beautiful gem of a name. It’s Italian and sounds very similar to [name]Alexandra[/name] but is much softer sounding and definetly unique which is very important. I’m super in love with this name right now and need some honest opinions. Some middle name suggestions would be great also, preferably something with the same style. The only thing that concerns me is our last name and how the name will sound with it. Lets just say it starts with an F, is two syllables and rhymes with Armer lol. Ugh  Thanks in advance for all your comments <3

I love the sound of [name]Alessia[/name] but I don’t like the look of it. I do think it sounds fine with your last name.

I really like it for all the reasons you posted. My DD middle name is [name]Alexis[/name] and i wanted [name]Alexandria[/name] or [name]Alessia[/name] but it was a family name and my DH wanted it the same. So i say go for it. It is beatiful.

What about [name]Alessandra[/name]? Too much of a mouthful? I don’t mind [name]Alessia[/name], but my first impression is that it’s very Italian. I think it’s the No 1 girls name in [name]Italy[/name] atm.

I like it, but it’s too Italian with your surname I think. It’s such a disconnect in my mind!

I love the name but, I think [name]Alessandra[/name]'s a better pick with your surname however.

I think it’s beautiful! I love Italian names. I don’t see it as more Italian than [name]Alessandra[/name].

@sarahmezz, it’s ranked at #10 in [name]Italy[/name].

I like [name]Alessia[/name]. Easy to say, feminine and pretty. I don’t think it’s too Italian. I like it alot.

Also, it’s pronounced “[name]Ah[/name]-lay-see-ah”, just in case you didn’t know.

Not in Italian it isn’t! It’s ahl-EHS-ee-ah (the ee-ah is almost one syllable)

Pronunciation in Italian is a difficult thing- the vowels don’t really make the same sounds as English. “E” is “eh,” sort of between an English short e and long a. “ia” at the end runs together, but isn’t quite the same as “ya.” However, it’s a simple name to say and most ways you’ll say it as an English speaker are more accented than wrong.

Actually it’s pronounced [name]Ah[/name]-[name]Les[/name]-See-[name]Ah[/name] in case YOU didn’t know

I would choose the Italian version of [name]Alexandra[/name] which is [name]Alessandra[/name] and use [name]Alessia[/name] as a nickname.

Thank you to the last two posters who are pronouncing it correctly. The double S makes the E short:
[name]Ah[/name] - LESS - ee - ah
Not very difficult [name]IMO[/name]. I don’t know where you got [name]Ah[/name]-[name]Lay[/name]-See-[name]Ah[/name] from east93, but nowhere in the middle of the name is there an A sound. Not to be rude, but if you don’t know don’t act like you do. Thanks

I like it! Especially the sound. I prefer [name]Alessandra[/name], though. I like the suggestion of using [name]Alessandra[/name] as the full name and [name]Alessia[/name] as the nickname.

I don’t like it, it looks like a more creative spelling of [name]Alicia[/name] to me, sorry. I’d say them virtually the same (a-liss-e-ah or a-less-e-ah) and in my accent there’s virtually no difference between the two.

Yes, [name]Alessandra[/name] gets my vote too. Does away with what I think you’re perceiving as the ‘harsh’ sound of [name]Alexandra[/name], and still feels a bit more sweet and classic than [name]Alessia[/name].

And what accent would that be rocket? [name]Just[/name] wondering because I pronounce [name]Alicia[/name] as UH-[name]LEE[/name]-SHA and I’ve also hear it pronounced UH-[name]LEE[/name]-CEE-UH but never the way you’re pronouncing it. [name]Alicia[/name] is not only a completely different name than [name]Alessia[/name] but also a completely different style.

I think [name]Alessia[/name]'s gorgeous! I think [name]Alessia[/name] with your surname is pretty brilliant, actually, I would love to meet a little girl with that name!
