Honest opinions about the name Lola?

I’ve loved this name for so long, and I got excited when I saw it dropped from #211 to #243 on the popularity list. I have a 7 month old daughter named [name]Rowan[/name] and when I think of another daughter in the future, [name]Lola[/name] is the only name I get excited about. But every time I mention it, people either go “Eh, it’s okay” or they start singing Copa Cabana. What are your honest opinions on the name? If you met an actual little girl named [name]Lola[/name], what would you immediately think?

I absolutely love [name]Lola[/name]! I didn’t used to like it at all, but then I met the cutest little girl named [name]Lola[/name] a few years ago at work, and she just made it work so well. I can’t imagine a [name]Lola[/name] that doesn’t charm her way into everyone’s hearts. It’s so sweet and spunky and I adore it. It does seem a bit cutesy so I would use it as a NN for something ([name]Charlotte[/name] nn [name]Lola[/name] is my choice), but I would absolutely love meeting another little [name]Lola[/name]. I love it.

[name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Lola[/name] are very cute together! Since [name]Rowan[/name] is a bit unisex, I like the idea of another unisex name with it, like [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Harlow[/name] (nn [name]Lola[/name])… just as they are, I think I would assume [name]Lola[/name] was a girl and [name]Rowan[/name] was a boy. :frowning:

Good luck!

Honestly, I don’t like it at all. I’ve warmed up to it- I used to absolutely hate it- but I just don’t think it ages well. I do like it for a kid, but it seems almost too spunky- I can only picture a little girl with lots of [name]Moxie[/name], not a strong adult woman. I know lots of pets and inanimate objects (like guitars and cars and stuff- I have strange friends) named [name]Lola[/name], and it just seems very young and nicknamey. I really like [name]Leila[/name]/[name]Laila[/name]/[name]Layla[/name] and [name]Lily[/name], but I just don’t care for any of the other double-L girls’ names. And like [name]Ashley[/name], I’ assume that [name]Rowan[/name] was a boy with a sister named [name]Lola[/name].

It’s gorgeous. Go for it.

I think [name]Lola[/name] is beautiful but when I think about a professional adult with a career, I just don’t see it. I love it for a child and also for an older person sitting on their stoop in their rocking chair but it’s the in between adult stage that I’m struggling with…

I’ve tried to find names that I could use [name]Lola[/name] as a nickname, but I would always call her [name]Lola[/name]. We call [name]Rowan[/name] “[name]Ro[/name]” sometimes…how cute would [name]Ro[/name] and Lo be? What are some full names I could use? I’m not very imaginative I guess…

[name]Love[/name] it and is in the top 100 in Australia.
If we have a girl she will be [name]London[/name] nickname [name]Lola[/name]. No one her generation will think of the song it is such a strong, pretty, timeless name I think. People will get use to it if you love it use it.

I love it. Either as a nickname, or on it’s own.

I love [name]Lola[/name] but strictly as a NN (we’re using [name]Lorelei[/name] as the FN) I just can’t see [name]Lola[/name] aging well. Also, I really dont think it works well with [name]Rowan[/name]. [name]Rowan[/name] is unisex and [name]Lola[/name] is very girly, like pp said if I saw the sibset on paper I’d think [name]Rowan[/name] was [name]Lola[/name]'s brother. I like the suggestion of [name]Harlow[/name] NN [name]Lola[/name] though. Something with the same sound but more edgy and not as frilly, [name]Zola[/name].

I like [name]Lola[/name]. I think its pretty and am also considering it for a future second daughter. The only thing that makes me hesitate is its meaning: “lady of sorrows.” If you’re not big into meanings then go for it.

I don’t mind [name]Lola[/name], it’s the 33rd most popular girl’s name so I’m expecting to meet a fair few [name]Lola[/name]'s soon. I don’t think [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Lola[/name] go very well together, because if I saw that sibset I’d assume [name]Rowan[/name] was a boy. I think the suggestion of [name]Harlow[/name] is fabulous, or [name]Willow[/name] would work.

I love the name [name]Lola[/name]! Go for it

I personally don´t like [name]Lola[/name]… I see it as a nickname more than a name. It’s actually the nickname of my aunt [name]Dolores[/name].

I love [name]Lola[/name]!!

I’ll never be able to get over the connection with the novel [name]Lolita[/name], so the name makes me cringe.

I adore the name [name]Lola[/name], it’s just so peppy and sweet. I always get a little name crush-y when [name]Kelly[/name] Ripa talks about her daughter [name]Lola[/name].

I’m big on name songs however, so some of those Kinks lyrics would bother me. I’m a big weirdo about it though, so dont take that too seriously.

I’ll always think of [name]Lola[/name] by The Kinks. I do like the name, but that would definitely be my first thought.

My dd is named [name]Lola[/name], we get compliments all of the time on it, I was actually super upset when I saw it listed in parents magazine as a name parents are using right now because I like that it’s rare without being “out there” my dd is named after her great grandmother [name]Lola[/name]… A lot of berries say its a NN only but in reality it was high in the charts as a stand alone name in the 1800 and 1900s if you check the social security administration name database it will show it that [name]Lola[/name] has a very legitimate history as a first name

So-so. Getting overused, but really like abbreviated Lo.
Does no-one else think of [name]Lolita[/name]??

I have a 1 yo niece named [name]Lola[/name], and she certainly exudes cuteness and spunk like her name! It’s personally nms, and I agree with others when they say it might not age well into adulthood. I can’t really imagine a powerful business woman named [name]Lola[/name], but thats just my opinion.
