What are your initial reactions to the name? Does it scream “grandma” or is is bland, lame, or boring? I’ve always loved it for some reason, and I’m considering using it for a middle. Maybe even a first if hubs would get on board. I love the idea of a little girl named [name]Max[/name].
It was my number one for a very long time! I think the nn [name]Max[/name] is precious! It does feel a bit old lady, but I think it’s very charming at the same time.
Massine is the French version. I have an ancestor named Massine [name]Alix[/name]…I’ve thought of using her names w/nn [name]Max[/name]!
The first think I thought of was its similarity to [name]Maxime[/name], which made me think of the HP character Madame [name]Maxime[/name]. So loud, French, and large.
Otherwise, I picture it along with checkers-playing old ladies [name]Thelma[/name], [name]Edith[/name], [name]Agatha[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name]. A little overly vintage, but ready to be brought back to the public with a confident girl.
I know a [name]Maxine[/name]. She’s in her 50’s. She’s a redhead. Really funny… laughs all the time. [name]One[/name] of those people that is full of life. So for me the name has a positive vibe.
To me, it fits right in with [name]Vivian[/name] and [name]Maeve[/name]. Cute way to get to [name]Max[/name] too.
I love [name]Maxine[/name]! It’s über-cute (and I only use über for the really good stuff). I actually met a [name]Maxine[/name] only a few days ago! She was in her late 20’s, very sweet and hippie-ish.
[name]Rowan[/name] & [name]Maxine[/name] would be adorable together! [name]Maxine[/name] [name]Sailor[/name]…
I think there are many more interesting, elegant, and cool alternatives for the nickname [name]Max[/name]. This feels so boring and dated to me.
[name]Maxime[/name]
Maximilienne
[name]Maxima[/name]
[name]Maxence[/name]
Maximiliana
Maxwella
[name]Mary[/name]-[name]Alix[/name], [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Xaviera[/name], [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Alexia[/name].
Okay, I’ll dissent…I can’t stand it. I strongly dislike [name]Roxanna[/name]/[name]Roxana[/name], too. I think ‘x’ names are very ugly. Sorry.
I have an awesome [name]Maxine[/name] association so that helps it for me. The girl I know is mid 20s & super cool. She gets called [name]Max[/name]. I think that not too long ago [name]Maxi[/name] felt like the only nn option for [name]Maxine[/name] and that put people off of it. The whole [name]Maxi[/name] pad thing. Now that girls are often called [name]Elliot[/name], [name]Logan[/name] & [name]Lincoln[/name]…no one would blink at the nn [name]Max[/name] on a girl. I think this greatly improves [name]Maxine[/name].
I much prefer a baby girl [name]Maxine[/name] to a baby girl [name]Maxwell[/name] like [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Simpson[/name] did. I think [name]Maxine[/name] is a good way to get to the nn [name]Max[/name] for a girl.
It’s not my favorite of all names but if you like it, go for it. I can see that it is more of a grandma name, but those are coming back in style. And I don’t see [name]Maxine[/name] as boring at all. It’s not even in the top 1000 - I would find it unexpected rather than boring. To me boring is [name]Sophie[/name]/a or [name]Madeline[/name] or an -ella name which I see on tons of babies.
I really like it! I worked with a woman named [name]Maxine[/name] and my cousins have a relative (on the other side) who is a teenage [name]Maxine[/name], so it doesn’t have an old lady vibe to me. I love the nickname [name]Max[/name] too.
Personally, I think [name]Maxine[/name] is one of, if not the worst names out there to choose. Sorry! [name]Every[/name] [name]Maxine[/name] I have ever met was just an awful person. I can’t picture this name on anything but an old woman smoking cigarettes outsides her trailer :(. If I was named [name]Maxine[/name] and my sister was named [name]Rowan[/name], I would be very jealous of her name. [name]Rowan[/name] feels fresh and spunky while to me [name]Maxine[/name] is the complete opposite. As much as I hated [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Simpson[/name]'s choice of [name]Maxwell[/name], I would much rather meet a girl named [name]Maxwell[/name] than a girl named [name]Maxine[/name]. Sorry, if I came across as to harsh but I feel really strongly about this.
Also, I warn you that there is a rather crass character named [name]Maxine[/name] as well that seems to be getting quite popular. She started on greeting cards but seems lot be all over the Internet now. [name]Just[/name] google [name]Maxine[/name] and see what pops up. That is definitely not an association I would want to give my daughter…
I don’t hate it, but it seems very harsh to me. I prefer more feminine sounding names.
To me, the name has a 1980s vibe to it, not grandma. That being said, I think it’s cute and there are plenty of other 80s names that are still popular ([name]Samantha[/name], [name]Natalie[/name]), so I think a little [name]Maxine[/name] would fit right in.
[name]Maxine[/name] is a guilty pleasure name for me as well as [name]Justine[/name], [name]Nadine[/name], and [name]Justina[/name] I don’t know why people think [name]Maxine[/name] is old ladyish to me it’s totally not an old lady name. It would be in the same category to me as names like [name]Nicole[/name], [name]Denise[/name], [name]Cassandra[/name], [name]Lisa[/name], [name]Teresa[/name], [name]Sonya[/name], or [name]Sabrina[/name]. Not sure how you would classify those but to me it has that same feel.
[name]Maxine[/name] is perfect i love it i work at a nursing home there are 2 with the 1st name [name]Maxine[/name] and one with it as a middle name
I love [name]Maxine[/name]. I can kind of see the diner waitress popping bubble gum with the grandma hair/glasses chain smoker thing, BUT, I also see it as a spunky little girl. It just works.
I like [name]Maxine[/name], I think it’s beautiful, vintage, and has some sass and spunk! It also goes well with your daughter’s name of [name]Rowan[/name].
Well, I guess it would have to be a middle. My husband said “Eh, a little too old lady isn’t it?” when I mentioned it earlier. He likes more modern sounding names, not really into the vintage name thing. Except for his weird love affair with [name]Drusilla[/name], but I’m not a huge fan.
