Honest opinions on Maxine?

My DH and I have fairly different tastes when it comes to names. But one think I think we often agree on is unisex names. For example, we both love [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] for a girl.

I also really like [name_u]Max[/name_u] for a girl, but would prefer it be a nickname to a more formal name. I like [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], but my DH really doesn’t. I also noticed this name isn’t liked by many others. I’m not sure why? The only thing that bothers me about it, is it sometimes sounds like you’re saying magazine really fast. But otherwise, I think it’s spunky and cute.

I was wondering what you thought of the name [name_f]Maxine[/name_f]? Also, if you have any other names that could use the nickname [name_u]Max[/name_u], what are they?

I love [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] - in [name_m]John[/name_m] Legends second album, he references a [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] several times and I’ve loved it ever since. However, it does appear that [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] is drastically different than the name styles under your signature so you may want to really think about it since it doesn’t seem to be your style. Also think, she may get called “[name_u]Maxie[/name_u]” as well.

I like [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], though I prefer it in the middle.

[name_f]Maxima[/name_f]
Maximiliana
Maximilienne
Maxentia
Maxienne
Maxielle
[name_u]Maxime[/name_u]

I never knew that! Good to know lol.

Hmmm… I don’t know. I feel like [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] fits my style  I have a bit of a quirky style and felt [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] was a bit quirky, as well. Also, I’m not sure if my signature represents my true style right now. I recently changed it because I’ve been feeling a bit more adventurous

I really like it in the middle spot, too. But have been seriously considering it as a first. [name_u]Maxime[/name_u] is nice! I’ve never been a fan of Maximillienne, but can see the appeal. Thanks for sharing!

I like it. I find it quirky and spunky while still maintaining a classy image as well. I suggested it to my DH and he oddly referenced [name_u]Maxi[/name_u] pads. I didn’t even know he knew what those were! Maybe that’s why some people dislike it? I think that it does fit nicely with your style by the way. My only concern is that you may not be able to convince your DH and if it’s not to his liking I don’t think you should push it. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

Has a ring to it

I love it and have to respectfully disagree with a pp, I think it fits in well. I see the funky style to your list and think [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] & [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] would be the sweetest set of sisters.

I think it still hasn’t quite shaken the association of maxi pads for many people which is why there’s a negative reaction. That said, the phrase “maxi pad” seems to be on its way out. A girl named [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] “[name_u]Max[/name_u]” probably won’t get that ridicule as she would 20+ years ago.

The maxi pad thing doesn’t bother me. I have a very specific image when I hear the name [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] and I’m not sure why. It’s an old woman with her hair dyed jet black, giant thick glasses on and lipstick on her teeth. I just can’t shake that image so it’s hard for me to picture the name on a child or young girl. If I try to separate that image out, it could be cute. I love [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] on a girl and [name_u]Max[/name_u]/[name_f]Maxine[/name_f] is similar. What about [name_f]Maxima[/name_f]?

I am not fond of [name_f]Maxine[/name_f]. Sorry.

I’ve thought about that reference, but I feel like the name [name_u]Max[/name_u] is fairly common and never heard of the [name_u]Maxi[/name_u] pad reference being an issue. But who knows! I agree… I definitely wouldn’t push it if DH doesn’t like it. This was more so just for fun and to see how other people view this name. Though I do think he would probably like [name_u]Max[/name_u] on a girl. Thanks for your tips

That’s a good point. Perhaps back in the day, that’s the association people had with it and why they disliked the name. And thank you - I also think it fits my style pretty well. I’m a lover of short, spunky names with a bit of a vintage twist. [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is absolutely adorable!

I would have not that about maxi pads. Several [name_u]Max[/name_u] names, including [name_u]Max[/name_u] itself are popular. I think most people would not think about it. I’ve also never heard anyone named [name_u]Max[/name_u] poked fun of using a maxi pad reference.

That is too funny! That old woman sounds like a hot mess… but also kind of like a badass haha. [name_f]Maxima[/name_f] is growing on me!

That’s okay! You’re allowed to  Any particular reason you don’t like this name? Or just not your style?

I am fine with [name_u]Max[/name_u] but the two sounds of [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] together I just don’t like. Not sure why.

[name_f]Maxine[/name_f] is one of my very favorite names. Elegant but not frilly, great nickname options, not overly common, cool X in the middle. I don’t know why more people don’t love it?? I have heard it called an “old lady” name, and the maxi pad thing. But I don’t think either of those associations are very strong and they would only continue to diminish with time anyway. I knew one [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] from high school who went by [name_u]Maxi[/name_u], and one from college who went by [name_u]Max[/name_u]. I don’t know whether or not they were ever teased.

I totally agree!

That’s what I’m saying! I thought the name would be more popular on name berry. I’m glad to see many people here say they like it though. Cool that you’ve known a cpl [name_f]Maxine[/name_f]'s!

Love it! Sophisticated, strong and classy when she’s older. Would use max/maxie as a nn when she’s little. Cute and sassy.
