Honest opinions on the name Summer

We are expecting our first daughter in late [name_f]May[/name_f] after two little boys. I have always liked the name [name_f]Summer[/name_f]. I don’t personally know any, but any time I’ve heard it, I’ve always thought it was a really cool name. Since I’m due close to summertime, and my husband and I both like the name, we’ve tentatively decided on [name_f]Summer[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. However, I keep second guessing it. (I did that with my second son’s name as well, and I love it now). [name_f]My[/name_f] only concern is that “summer” is such a common word in reference to the season and now that I’m super conscious of it I just notice how often I or others say “I can’t wait for summer” or “I just love summer” or whatever. I’m worried it could be confusing or that she will get teased a lot…although my name ([name_u]Abby[/name_u]) rhymes with plenty of things and I got teased as a kid and pulled through alright.

What is your honest impression of the name [name_f]Summer[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know anyone with the name? (I know I will get a variety of positive and negative responses, I’m just looking for an overall vibe).

I worked with a girl named [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and she was a real sweetheart, so I have a positive association to the name. [name_f]Season[/name_f] names weren’t uncommon in my area (I knew a [name_f]Summer[/name_f], [name_u]Winter[/name_u], and a [name_f]Season[/name_f]), and I don’t think anyone ever teased any of them about their names except maybe asking if their parents were hippies.

It isn’t my style. I don’t feel like it would age well. That being said, it sounds pretty and happy. Most importantly you should use a name you love.

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Summer[/name_f]. Use it. I don’t know anyone with the name, but I think there was an Olympic swimmer in the 90s. Also, wasn’t a girl on the TV show, “The OC” named [name_f]Summer[/name_f]?

I am 29 years old and went to school with loads of girls named summer. to me the name sounds dated.

I know one [name_f]Summer[/name_f] who is about 8 years old. This [name_f]Summer[/name_f] is blonde, tan, has a big, bright smile and is super friendly. I think the name suits her perfectly.

I love the name [name_f]Summer[/name_f]
I have never met one, but I imagine someone very sweet to wear the name.

Thanks for the replies so far. I’m 29 and like I don’t personally know any Summmers, although I know of a few. Keep the replies coming

I like the name [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and I don’t know anyone with that name. If you are unsure about the season association and the familiarity of [name_f]Summer[/name_f] maybe you can considered the name [name_m]Sumner[/name_m]? I was friends with a [name_m]Sumner[/name_m] in high school school and I always liked her name. [name_m]Sumner[/name_m] may give you the same feel as the name [name_f]Summer[/name_f] but is a little more unique and updated! What do you think?

Eh, I really prefer [name_f]Summer[/name_f] to [name_m]Sumner[/name_m].

[name_f]Every[/name_f] girl I’ve known named [name_f]Summer[/name_f] has been blonde, just like every [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] has red hair. It is dated, but not extremely common. I also went to school with a girl named [name_u]Sunny[/name_u], which I think is pretty cute.

I like [name_f]Summer[/name_f]. [name_f]Summer[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is nice and safe choice.

I am also 29 years old and I have never met a [name_f]Summer[/name_f]. I also love the name [name_f]Summer[/name_f], but have similar reservations. In the end, I think sometimes its the harder choices that ultimately make the better names, because not many people have the guts to do it, but lots of people probably love it too

I love the name [name_f]Summer[/name_f] - you should totally use it! I am 28 and have never met a [name_f]Summer[/name_f] but I would love to.
