What are your thoughts on [name]Winston[/name]? My husband is really into this name, but I’m not completely sold yet. I do like the nickname [name]Stone[/name]. I’d love to know your honest opinions on this name (my feeling won’t be hurt). Thanks!
All I can think of is a dog. I’m sorry, but it’s a pets name now. [name]IMO[/name]
I picture a cute little dude in a sweater vest with dirt on his jeans-just the right amount of tough and tamed;)
I had never thought of it but now that I do, I like it. [name]One[/name] of the characters on the New Girl is named [name]Winston[/name].
I wasn’t sold on the name until recently when I was introduced to the name as my friend [name]Esther[/name]'s brother. He is a member of an Australian metalcore band. There’s also another Australian musician [name]Winston[/name] [name]Giles[/name] of the [name]Winston[/name] [name]Giles[/name] orchestra, so the name obviously gives me quite the creative vibe yet I feel it can be quite serious as well. I’ve since added the name to my longer list with the very definite ability for it to rise to the short list. I love the nn [name]Win[/name].
Good luck with being sold on the name.
I honestly don’t really like it. I mean it’s not terrible, but it’s not a very pleasant name either.
I don’t like any of the -ston names very much but here are a few:
[name]Weston[/name]
[name]Kingston[/name]
[name]Preston[/name]
[name]Triston[/name]
[name]Easton[/name]
Ariston
I like the name [name]Winston[/name]. I had a guinea pig named
[name]Winston[/name] but I don’t just associate it with pets.
I just started to love [name]Winston[/name] recently, and my teenage daughter loves it too. I know a couple Winstons, but none younger than 65. I can’t imagine one of those old men being called “[name]Win[/name]” or “[name]Stone[/name],” but I think its a dignified name that doesn’t need a nickname.
I love it because of [name]Winston[/name] [name]Churchill[/name] (also why I like [name]Clementine[/name] too). I know a [name]Winston[/name] that’s about 8 and it suits him-- bookish kid. I like [name]Win[/name] as a nn. What about [name]Winslow[/name] (don’t use Slow as a nn though)? I like that name as well for the artist [name]Winslow[/name] [name]Homer[/name]. Maybe [name]Winthrop[/name]? Could you use [name]Winston[/name] as a mn to honor your husband’s wishes and pick one that you both agree on for a fn?
I don’t like it much. It sounds stuffy, and not in a good way.
I know of a lil boy [name]Winston[/name]. I was pleasantly surprised, apparently his name didnt go over very well when he was born, but I think its great!
I also really like it! [name]Even[/name] though my first reaction is to imagine a literal bulldog, because it seems like every other bulldog in the world is named after [name]Winston[/name] [name]Churchill[/name], who is my next association. I would still use it anyway.
Haha, I also thought of [name]Winston[/name] [name]Churchill[/name]! I am not keen on the name, I think [name]William[/name] is better, though I am not a fan of any of the W names for boys!
Thanks everyone. My hubby and I like the association with [name]Churchill[/name]. Maybe we’ll use it as a middle name.
I [name]LOVE[/name] it! [name]Both[/name] [name]Edwin[/name] and [name]Winston[/name] are on my long list - I love the nn [name]Win[/name]/[name]Winny[/name] for a little guy. And I’ve never thought of “[name]Stone[/name]”, but that’s pretty cool too! Great name…he’ll be the only one in his class (which is always nice), but it’s familiar.
I like [name]Winston[/name]. It is cute, and can age well. I also like [name]Windell[/name]/[name]Wendell[/name]. I don’t see it as a pet name…people treat their pets like children anyways…
I adore [name]Winston[/name]! It’s such a great name.
no its a dog’s name now…
With all of the -ton names occupying the US charts, I’m really surprised that [name]Winston[/name] hasn’t been revived yet. I think it’s a solid choice, and the nickname [name]Win[/name] is cool.
I used to like [name]Winston[/name] before I had a student who ruined the name for me. So I did like it.
Now, I like [name]Winslow[/name] more. And it still has that great [name]Win[/name] nickname that I like for guys.
I like [name]Winston[/name]. It seems like it’s overdue for a revival. I can see it on a cute little boy but also on a grown man. I’m sorry to say that I’m not a fan of the nickname [name]Stone[/name], though. That seems like a big stretch. If you want to call him [name]Stone[/name], I think you should just name him [name]Stone[/name].
