Hubby likes [name_f]India[/name_f] but our nephew is called [name_u]Indie[/name_u]. I suggested [name_f]Asia[/name_f] however hubby didn’t like.
Then ‘[name_f]Bali[/name_f]’ came to mind. It also means strength in Sanskrit.
What are you thoughts please
Hmm, I agree that [name_f]Bali[/name_f] seems a little random as a baby name, although it does have quite a pretty sound. It just brings to mind the place for me too. Is there any particular reason why your choices are all [name_f]Asian[/name_f] place names?
Are you just looking for something a bit “exotic” or you are from these areas/like traveling there?
People will definitely ask you why and later your kid why that is their name.
Bali has a really appealing sound
I love the sound, but I heavily associate [name_f]Bali[/name_f] with the Indonesian island.
I really like it as a name! @daniemc used to have it in her UC also!
India holds a very special meaning but [name_f]Bali[/name_f] and [name_f]Asia[/name_f] are just names I love saying.
I loved the sound of [name_f]Bali[/name_f] and finding out it means strength in sanskrit made it even more appealing.
Its also one of the first names my husband said he actually liked.
I don’t like [name_f]Bali[/name_f]. Would DH like [name_f]Asia[/name_f] better if it were spelled, [name_u]Aja[/name_u]? Same pronunciation but more subtle.
i will advocate for [name_f]Bali[/name_f], haha! i adore how the name feels and what it embodies to me, like most place names people are hesitant about them and again like every new name it is strange until you start hearing it being repeated!
[name_f]Bali[/name_f] has many similarities with trending and up-and-coming names! i personally wouldn’t rule it out!
i have also created many threads about it which i’ll try link below to help out with middle names or other opinions!!
I personally don’t care for the name, sorry! I just think of the place only and I don’t find it usable
Not my personal favorite. But it’s still cute and very usable!
I’d never thought about [name_f]Bali[/name_f] as a name before, I can see the appeal though! It’s got a cool/exotic feeling to it, I can see it working on the right kind of person
I’m not keen on it. [name_f]Bali[/name_f] is a place near where I live. People here refer to it all the time, as a place. It just doesn’t work as a girl’s name for me.
I stand by my comment on the other thread that it’s no stranger to me than other place names, though I don’t like it.
My one concern from a western lens is whether people like it for its supposed exoticism, which has been brought up here as a point in its favour already. It feels a little othering to me to appreciate [name_f]Asian[/name_f] names purely for their [name_f]Asian[/name_f]-ness, almost appropriative possibly? It’s just a strange coincidence that all the names you’re seeming to consider are linked to [name_f]Asia[/name_f] with few personal ties to the area. I think that worries me less with place names from less historically exploited parts of the world maybe?
I’m iffy on [name_f]Bali[/name_f]; it sounds beautiful but it’s too tied to the place for me.
As you say [name_f]India[/name_f] holds a special meaning for you, might you consider [name_f]Nara[/name_f]. [name_f]Nara[/name_f] has several meanings including (Celtic) happy and (Japanese) oak tree – the oak tree symbolizes strength and endurance. [name_f]Nara[/name_f] is also the name of a river in [name_f]India[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Bali[/name_f] or [name_f]Asia[/name_f] can definitely work as a name if that’s what you love. I really associate the jasmine flower with [name_f]India[/name_f]. I haven’t visited but I have I have a close friend whose parents are originally from there and I have good memories of his mom tying together jasmine flowers for me to wear in my hair. So for me [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] is a nice name that reminds me of [name_f]India[/name_f]. Maybe there is another name like this for you if you decide [name_f]Bali[/name_f] doesn’t seem right. You can also try posting some of the names you like vs your husband to get more targeted feedback and suggestions. Good luck!
Yeah, I agree with @emelfem. [name_f]Bali[/name_f] doesn’t appeal to me, sorry. I’ve been there on too many vacations to think of anything else.
