Hello. [name_f][/name_f]I was just wondering if I could have some honest opinions on the names [name_f]Mallory[/name_f] (Mal) and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (Josie) for a girl please. [name_f][/name_f]What vibes do both names give you?
[name_f][/name_f]
We’ve had some negative feedback on both names from people we know especially about the name [name_f]Mallory[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f]We have also had a few people say both names sound like strippers names! [name_f][/name_f]Both myself and my husband love the names but obviously we don’t want to use a name that immediately brings the thought ‘stripper’ to people’s heads when they hear it!
[name_f][/name_f]
If anyone has any name ideas that are similar to the above we would also love to hear them!
Firstly neither of these names are stripperish! Gosh what nonsense! This concept reeks in misogyny and is beyond annoying but anyways moving on…
Mallory feels unexpected, timeless and melodic in sound. I strongly associate Mallory with the author Malorie Blackman (appreciate different spelling) and she’s an amazing author/person. Personally I wouldn’t shorten Mallory I think she works just fine without a nickname especially as she has such a sweet joyous sound. Still for me due to name meanings being important I wouldn’t personally use Mallory as the meaning ‘unfortunate’ isn’t the best.
Josephine is gorgeous very classic, refined, elegant, with a sweet romantic feel along with a lovely spiritual meaning. I think Josephine is beautiful and I love the nickname Josie it’s sweet and playful. I think overall Josephine is a great name ticking all the boxes.
Dismissing perfectly nice girl’s names as “stripper names” is so weirdly common. I have no idea where it came or why it’s so popular besides misogyny. Anyway, [name_f]Mallory[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] are both lovely. Further thoughts:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Mallory[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- Has a really fun rhythm and a pleasing sound. It means “unfortunate”, which isn’t my favourite and I do feel that [name_f]Mallory[/name_f] is slightly dated to the 80s while [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is more classic. Something about the “marshmallowyness” of [name_f]Mallory[/name_f] does make me smile, though. It’s also less popular than [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and might hit a nice unexpected yet familiar note. I picture someone sunny, with a freckled nose, and a ton of energy.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- Such an elegant, regal classic. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] does feel very serious and professional, but [name_f]Josie[/name_f] is sweeter and lighter on a playful little girl. I picture a [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] being a bit studious and indoorsy, but kind and clever. It’s a lovely choice.
I wouldn’t say they’re indecent names at all. However, I wouldn’t use them as sisters personally because their individual vibes are so discordant with one another.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is classic and [name_f]Josie[/name_f] is a little southern. [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Mallory[/name_f] is more late 90s to mid-2000s and a little preppy of a name.
[name_f][/name_f]
But if you like both, use both! I just personally wouldn’t think of them as sisters.
[name_f]Mallory[/name_f] has a slightly retro feel, musical but in a kind of disco way. I like the flow and sound of it [name_f][/name_f]- a bit like [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] but with the more contemporary feel of [name_f]Cassidy[/name_f] and [name_f]Romilly[/name_f]. I do know some people are put off by the meaning though (I don’t find it an issue [name_f][/name_f] )
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] ‘Josie’ is elegant, strong, and literary, classic but with a playful, spirited feel. It makes me think of [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women[name_f][/name_f]. [name_f]Josie[/name_f] is sweet, sassy, and warm!
[name_f]Mallory[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- I don’t like the meaning, but it’s a nice sounding name. [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- I like this name, and [name_f]Josie[/name_f] is a good nickname.
[name_f][/name_f]
Neither one sounds like a stripper name to me [name_f][/name_f]- but then again, I don’t think any name immediately makes me think of that, so maybe I’m the wrong person to ask?
I love both names, though I’m not fond of the nickname Josie for some reason. Just personal preference I guess. I have never ever associated either as a stripper name. If anything, Josephine feels classic or Biblical to me, but not in a way that I would assume it was chosen for religious reasons. I briefly worked with a Mallory who had a very genuine smile and I was impressed by how she seemed to just have her stuff figured out at a very young age. I guess I associate Mallory as someone being cheerful and intelligent and put together but also playful. I think it gets a bad rap because of the meaning behind it, but I would still totally use it! I slightly prefer Mallory because it feels very recognizable but feels a little unexpected or underused. You don’t run into them super often, at least not where I live. I think Josephine has had a resurgence recently, but not nearly as popular as like an Olivia or Sophia. I heard a mom calling after a little Josephine at a park recently and it made me love the name even more seeing it on a little girl in real life.
I wouldn’t think stripper in any context these names were mentioned [name_f][/name_f]- maybe not even in a stripper context!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] reminds me of [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] Bonaparte, all things frenchy and regal, but it also has the literary, cottagecore feel with the nn’s [name_f]Jo[/name_f], [name_f]Josie[/name_f], [name_f]Posie[/name_f], Phina. It’s classic and refined.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Mallory[/name_f] is more playful and 80/90s vibes to me. It’s more edgy and artsy, and gives someone immediate cool gal points.
What!? That’s shocking to me, these[name_f][/name_f] names?? Oh golly. I don’t think they sound “strippery” at all. (Not that that’s even a bad thing, just that these really don’t hit the stereotype for me.)
[name_f][/name_f]
I love these names. I know a wonderful little girl (she’d be 4 years old) named [name_f]Mallory[/name_f] nn [name_m]Mal[/name_m]. So spunky! And [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is unbeatable. Such a gorgeous name! These are delightful and go beautifully together!!
I agree with the others that [name_f]Mallory[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] aren’t “stripper” names—what a preposterous thought!
[name_f][/name_f]
I do agree with some of the other posters that they feel like a different vibe to me… but both are likable and lovely names? [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Mallory[/name_f] feels sweet and 90s to me, a bit surnamey, reminds me of names like [name_f]Emery[/name_f], [name_f]Everly[/name_f], and [name_f]Hadley[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] feels classic and a little bookish because of [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women, and very versatile and feminine. [name_f][/name_f] She reminds me of names like [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Maria[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Corinne[/name_f], [name_f]Camille[/name_f], [name_f]Elora[/name_f], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Noemi[/name_f], [name_f]Odette[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
If I were trying to blend the styles, I might recommend something like:
I adore the name [name_f]Mallory[/name_f]. It’s so underappreciated, possibly because of the meaning, but I don’t care. I think it’s sweet and goes really well with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]!
Oh gosh these names are beautiful! [name_f]My[/name_f] sister was going to name her daughter [name_f]Mallory[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f], but it turns out .. he was a boy [name_f][/name_f]!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Mallory[/name_f] reminds me of babysitters club … so probably the furthest thing from a strip club [name_f][/name_f]! I think it’s a gorgeous name [name_f][/name_f]!
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is so fun [name_f][/name_f]! I love all the nickname potential especially [name_m]Joey[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]!
[name_f][/name_f]
People are tough critics but when baby is here people will have no choice than to love the name
