I’d like honest opinions on my usercard- constructive criticism is appreciated!
I’d really appreciate longer opinions, but if you’re short on time or don’t have much to say, that’s fine too.
Thank you in advance!
I really like your style! [name_f]Adah[/name_f] Blackbird is absolutely breathtaking, it has such a solemn, mystical, moonlight kind of feel but also a bit of lightness and whimsy from Blackbird. [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_u]Prairie[/name_u], [name_m]Casper[/name_m] [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] Arundel, and [name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] are all stunning as well. I love how you mingle familiar names with unusual ones, and solid traditional choices with a romantic nature influence. One hopefully constructive criticism: I find [name_f]Eloisia[/name_f] pretty hard to say and I feel like it would be mistaken for/mispronounced as [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] or [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] pretty often.
Your names are all gorgeous! Seriously. [name_f]Adah[/name_f] Blackbird is truly stunning. Honestly, several of them caught my eye.
However, the only criticism I can say is that they all sound very formulaic. You have gorgeous, vintage names with an unexpected nature name for nearly every combination. There’s absolutely nothing bad about that because you do it so amazingly well. Yet, maybe it’s time to jump out of your comfort zone and explore names outside those categories? I am probably projecting because I know I should look into different styles of names, too.
@findemaxa13: Thank you! I understand your thoughts on [name_f]Eloisia[/name_f], thanks for pointing that out! I really like how you described my style as well. I love a lot of the names on your usercard, you have great taste in names.
@Loislyn: I never really thought about my names being formulaic, that’s an interesting observation. Not to be defensive, but my “north dakota” section is intended to have words I associate with the state, so the unexpected nature name is kind of inevitable . Thank you for the compliments! I love [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], and [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] from your usercard
@katkabet: now I want to know your preferences for every single combo from my usercard you probably know this but i absolutely love your names
I hope you don’t mind, but I only did the girls names and [name_f]Zillah[/name_f] [name_u]Meadowlark[/name_u]. Because I figured out pretty soon that I was basically saying that I love the flow, the names and everything else about it Also sorry that most of my feedback didn’t make sense!
Adah Blackbird: 7/10, I’m assuming [name_f]Adah[/name_f] is either Ay-duh or [name_m]Add[/name_m]-uh. I don’t love either of the names but the flow is nice and the names go well together. [name_f]Adah[/name_f] might get misspelled as [name_f]Ada[/name_f], but I actually prefer this spelling!
Violet [name_u]Arbor[/name_u]: 8/10, In terms of the flow I would prefer [name_u]Arbor[/name_u] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. I think [name_u]Arbor[/name_u] might get misspelled as [name_u]Harbor[/name_u] because of the sound, but that might just be my accent! [name_u]Arbor[/name_u] adds a bit more brightness to [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and the names compliment each other well.
Zoe [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]: 6/10, Not a fan of [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] or [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]. The flow is nice, just not my style.
Eva [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]: 7/10, This one is nice but it feels a bit plainer compared to your other names. And how do you pronounce [name_f]Eva[/name_f]?
Louisa [name_f]May[/name_f]: 10/10, A bit too literary- but I love it! The literary association might be confusing, but the names go well together and have a vintage and classic vibe!
Eloisia [name_f]Rose[/name_f]: 9.5/10, I love the names but [name_f]Eloisia[/name_f] might get confused as [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Elisia[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] or [name_u]Louise[/name_u].
Susannah [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]: 9/10, I don’t love [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], but this combo is gorgeous!
Marigold [name_f]Joy[/name_f]: 10/10, [name_u]Love[/name_u] this one! I don’t usually love 2 word names together but this one is stunning!
Annabeth [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]: 7/10. This one is pretty too but it feels a bit too frilly in comparison to your other nams. What about [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Promise[/name_f]?
Glendalough [name_u]Skye[/name_u]: 4/10, Not a fan of Glendalough. Glendalough will get misspelled and mispronounced every so often imho. The combo is nice but not my style.
Mildred [name_f]Katharine[/name_f]: 5/10, [name_u]Love[/name_u] this combo but it seems out of place. [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] is totally my style, but it doesn’t seem to fit in with your other names like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_u]Arbor[/name_u], [name_f]Adah[/name_f] Blackbird or Glendalough [name_u]Skye[/name_u].
Lieselotte [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]: 8/10, I think this is the combo that made me fall in love with [name_f]Lieselotte[/name_f]! I pronounce it Lease-lot, [name_f]Lise[/name_f]-lot and Liez-lot. But tell me if I’m pronouncing it wrong! The name is a bit long, but it isn’t that noticable.
Elspeth [name_u]Rain[/name_u]: 9/10, This one is stunning! [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] would make a pretty nickname for [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]. The flow is nice and it looks pretty on paper.
Elsie [name_f]Annis[/name_f]: 9/10, [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] goes well with your other names! [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] is light and playful (If that makes sense!) but [name_f]Annis[/name_f] weighs it down in a way. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I don’t think it fits in the best with your other names, but I love it so that’s why it has a 9!
Zillah [name_u]Meadowlark[/name_u]: 8/10, [name_m]Don[/name_m]’t love [name_f]Zillah[/name_f] but it fits in well! Not a big fan of the repetitive -la though.
Also, most of your combos have a more ‘normal’ name with a less common name or nature/word name paired with it. And that is why I think [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Annis[/name_f] fit in as well. But overall I love your UC! Your naming style is amazing!
thank you so much! you went through a lot of effort and your feedback is great!
It’s ay-duh!
me too
EH-vah
it’s technically incorrect
the wonderful @katkabet came up with [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]!
[name_f]Promise[/name_f] seems frillier than [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] to me, but I appreciate the suggestion!
(also you have made me like [name_f]Promise[/name_f] a lot more, so thank you!)
I’d say that it’s more of my overall style, but I can see how it wouldn’t fit in.
I’m not sure of the correct pronunciation, but I pronounce [name_f]Lieselotte[/name_f] LEE-sul-ott.
from your usercard, I like [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] and [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m] the most!
I love [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]!!! I also like [name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m].
Although my favorite has to be…ragnev accordion nasemrap luggage! Jk it’s [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]
THANK YOU KATE YOU’RE AMAZING
I’ve been considering [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Eloisia[/name_f]/Eloisa.
this is no fault of yours
that is correct
isn’t it like that for everyone…?
pronunciation wars?
really just to see how we pronounce words differently
I love your style! It’s somewhat eclectic, but several of these names have an elegant, late-Victorian feel that perfectly matches your lovely profile pic, I think.
And I really like the [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]Dakota[/name_u]-themed section, too.
You asked for longer opinions, so allow me!
Girls
- [name_f]Adah[/name_f] Blackbird – These names work incredibly well together, and the name as a whole has a very dark, mysterious vibe. It’s a stunning combo, and I like it!
- [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_u]Arbor[/name_u] – This sounds like the name of a beautiful place where I want to vacation this summer! [name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was that it was a little word-y, but the more I think about it, the more I love it. And I think I know exactly what book/series inspired this combo…
- [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] – This one stands out a bit – two Greek names together, quite different from the others, which makes me feel a bit like they should be separated into different combos. But the flow is good, and the names do work well together in general.
- [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] – Gorgeous. These two names work beautifully together and give off sweet garden imagery for me. It’s graceful and elegant, and I love it!
- [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] – These two names do make a charming pair! Of course, [name_u]Alcott[/name_u] was my first thought, but I am guessing it was supposed to be.
- [name_f]Eloisia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] – Very elegant, though I think I prefer [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f], personally, as it’s just a bit simpler. But I like the sleek, simple [name_f]Rose[/name_f] paired with the more elaborate fn – it works really well, imo.
- [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] – I adore [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]. However, honestly, I just don’t care for [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], personally. But, personal taste aside, the names do flow well together, so I see nothing wrong with this as a combo.
- [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] – This is sweet, and I love [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], but I do feel like it may be a little too sweet, perhaps? Sometimes overly sweet names need fns/mns that provide a nice sense of balance, if that makes sense. So, while these two work perfectly fine together, they do feel a bit heavy on the sweet side, lacking in balance. But that could just be me.
- [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] – This is a very soft, gentle combo. It makes me think of [name_f]Beth[/name_f] [name_u]March[/name_u], actually, so that’s the perfect way to describe the vibe I’m getting here!
- Glendalough [name_u]Skye[/name_u] – Hmm…tbh, I’m not loving Glendalough. It feels a little out-of-place with the rest of your names, and the spelling looks needlessly complicated. However, if this is a family name/honor name, then I have nothing against it! [name_u]Or[/name_u] even if it’s just a name you love, I’m not telling you you have to do away with it! (That’s just my honest initial reaction.) Regardless of personal taste, the pairing works well – [name_u]Skye[/name_u] is simple enough as a mn to help balance the more unique fn.
- [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] – [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] is such a clunky cool name! I genuinely like it, and it’s very pretty paired with [name_f]Katharine[/name_f], which I adore – especially with this spelling! <3
- [name_f]Lieselotte[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] – Honestly, this one feels a little unbalanced, too, imo. Both names are stunning on their own or paired with a more simply name that they can really add something to, but they feel like a bit too much together, if that makes sense. It just seems a little try-hard to me. But that’s probably just me! Otherwise, I think it’s perfectly fine.
- [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] [name_u]Rain[/name_u] – This is beautiful! I love the delicate, dewy imagery this combo evokes. That’s all I can say. It’s a lovely–nay, a breathtaking pairing.
- [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Annis[/name_f] – Meh. It’s all right, I suppose, but a little plain compared to the rest of your list. The names are fine and do work together, but, again, don’t possess that well-balanced quality of some of your others, like [name_f]Eloisia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], for example.
You didn’t ask for suggestions, so I apologize for this, but…If I could, I might take the less-balanced combos I’ve mentioned and mix & match a bit. Maybe… [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Lieselotte[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_f]Annis[/name_f], and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]? [name_m]Just[/name_m] thoughts. Not saying you have to change any if you’re happy with them as they are, so please don’t think that! I’m just playing around.
[name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]Dakota[/name_u]
- [name_f]Zillah[/name_f] [name_u]Meadowlark[/name_u] – Wow. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wow. Both names are unique and unexpected, but they work so well together!
- [name_f]Dinah[/name_f] Sunflower – How charming! I’m just getting strong prairie girl vibes from this one, and I love it.
- [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_u]Prairie[/name_u] – I like this one, too! [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is such an elegant name, and [name_u]Prairie[/name_u] is rather different, very down-to-earth and a little bit wild, an unexpected choice to pair with sophisticated [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. But I actually think it works! Hard to explain, but it just does somehow. The flow is good, and the color is very golden for me.
- [name_f]Medora[/name_f] [name_f]Athenais[/name_f] – Hmm…tbh, I don’t love it. It just doesn’t really seem to fit with your other names here.
- Abercrombie [name_f]Bea[/name_f] – How are you pronouncing [name_f]Bea[/name_f]? I instinctively say it like ‘bee’, which makes the combo sound stuttery, like Abercrombee-bee.
- [name_f]Violetta[/name_f] [name_u]Sunset[/name_u] – [name_f]Violetta[/name_f] is lovely! I’m not a fan of [name_u]Sunset[/name_u], personally – it’s just a bit much for me. But the flow is nice, so I suppose it works.
- [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]Elm[/name_u] – [name_u]Love[/name_u] it! It has such a handsome, outdoorsy feel. I like the buttoned-up [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] paired with the earthy [name_u]Elm[/name_u] – it just works so perfectly. <3
Boys
- [name_m]Casper[/name_m] [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] – Not a fan of [name_m]Casper[/name_m], personally, but I adore [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]! Overall, I think the names work fine and flow well together.
- [name_u]Leland[/name_u] [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] – [name_u]Leland[/name_u]!! I love it! So glad to see it getting some love. (And based on several of your girls names, I can guess your inspiration.) [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] is cool, too. I’m just not sure I like these two together, honestly. The flow is a little off, imo. It might be the hard d sounds in both of the names…
- [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] – Very classy! I like it.
- [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] – Not sure why, but these two kind of clash in my mind. (I have a weird thing where certain names match or clash for seemingly arbitrary reasons.) But that could just be me! The flow is fine, so it could work.
- [name_m]Jack[/name_m] Seabury – Ooh, I like this one a lot! This pairing gives me rugged, coastal [name_u]New[/name_u] [name_f]England[/name_f] vibes. I really like the flow and the unexpected mn paired with the more common [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. YES.
- [name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] – I love both names, but, just like [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], they just kind of clash for me. But there’s nothing really wrong with them as a combo.
- [name_m]Henry[/name_m] Arundel – I like it! Arundel is unique, but cool, and it works really well with [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
- [name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] – This combo feels like a Ravenclaw name – best way I can describe it. And I like it.
- [name_m]Cagney[/name_m] [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] – [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] is fabulous – what an underrated gem! [name_m]Cagney[/name_m] is interesting ([name_m]Cagney[/name_m] & [name_f]Lacey[/name_f]?), and I’m not sure how I feel about it – on its own or with [name_m]Isidore[/name_m].
- [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] [name_u]Ezra[/name_u] – The flow isn’t the best, imho, but otherwise it’s a fine combo.
Thank you for the in-depth review! It’s obvious you spent a lot of time on it, and I really appreciate it.
Elsie [name_m]Dinsmore[/name_m]
yes it was
Glendalough is not a family name, I discovered it through a state park near me!
all I aspire to be
the same way you do
theodore seems more rugged for me, probably because my first association with the name is [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m], specifically his time in the (rugged) badlands of [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]Dakota[/name_u]
Well, it’s been heavily snowing here all afternoon, so I had the time.
But you’re welcome. I genuinely enjoyed going through your names, and I hope my thoughts are at least somewhat helpful!
Yeah, I can see that, too, definitely! Either way, it’s a great name. <3
I love so many of your naems, honestly. Your UC is fantastic.
Girls: [name_f]Adah[/name_f] Blackbird— to be honest, I’ve never been much of an [name_f]Adah[/name_f] fan but I actually really love it in this combo. I don’t think I’d name my child [name_f]Adah[/name_f] Blackbird but I really like this.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_u]Arbor[/name_u]- [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is one of those super-pretty name that everyone found super pretty, and then it became mainstram, and then its prettiness was somewhat diminished. [name_u]Arbor[/name_u], meanwhile, has a very cool unisex feel and I like it!
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f] [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]- I like [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]! Not really a [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] fan. I prefer Zöe, but that’s really pretentious in the US. Overall I like the combo.
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]- [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] is very cool, but it’s never given me the same vibe as [name_f]Rosamonde[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosetta[/name_f]. It’s not my go-to [name_f]Rose[/name_f] name. [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is cute. The combo is nice, but it lacks the WOW for me.
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]- I enjoy [name_f]May[/name_f], but I’ve never been a fan of [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. The ‘eez’ sound never really applealed to me.
[name_f]Eloisia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]- [name_f]Eloisia[/name_f] is so beautiful! [name_f]Rose[/name_f] complements it well. I like this one a lot!
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]- like [name_f]Adah[/name_f] Blackbird these names aren’t really for me but for some reason I really adore this combo! I love this one!
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]- not the biggest fan of either name, and I’m not sure about the flow.
[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]- very nice flow! [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] is cool. [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is adorable! [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is one the best [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names.
Glendalough [name_u]Skye[/name_u]- never liked SKye much but I adore Glendalough! SO cool and with such a farmer vibe, in the best way. ‘[name_m]Farmer[/name_m] vibe’ sounds negative— I don’t mean it negatively! I love Glendalough so much!
[name_f]Mildred[/name_f] [name_f]Katharine[/name_f]- I don’t like [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] at all. [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] is nice with a good stone-wall vibe.
[name_f]Lieselotte[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]- remember that WOW factor I mentioned eariler? This has it, 100%! I love this combo SO much!
[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] [name_u]Rain[/name_u]- it’s nice. There’s nothing wrong with it, not really a fan of [name_u]Rain[/name_u]. The flow is good.
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] [name_f]Annis[/name_f]- just not for me.
I’ll come back to do the rest of your names!
I live in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]Dakota[/name_u], “farmer vibe” is the biggest compliment I could get.
(besides prairie girl vibe)
I love your UC especially [name_f]Adah[/name_f] Blackbird, [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Zillah[/name_f] [name_u]Meadowlark[/name_u] for girls and [name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] Arundel and [name_m]Casper[/name_m] [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] for boys!
North [name_u]Dakota[/name_u] names-
Zillad [name_u]Meadowlark[/name_u]- not a fan. [name_f]Zillah[/name_f] makes me think of Godzilla and [name_u]Meadowlark[/name_u] seems over-the-top.
[name_f]Dinah[/name_f] Sunflower- not really a fan of [name_f]Dinah[/name_f], I prefer [name_f]Diana[/name_f]. Sunflower is okay, not my favorite.
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_u]Prairie[/name_u]- I love this. I love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_u]Prairie[/name_u] is so cool.
[name_f]Medora[/name_f] [name_f]Athenais[/name_f]- eh, it’s okay. [name_f]Medora[/name_f] is meh, [name_f]Athenais[/name_f] just looks like a misspelling of [name_u]Athens[/name_u] even though I know it’s not?
Abercrombie [name_f]Bea[/name_f]- I like this except that the b’s run into each other.
[name_f]Violetta[/name_f] [name_u]Sunset[/name_u]- [name_u]Sunset[/name_u] is great, [name_f]Violetta[/name_f] is meh. The combo works well, though.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]Elm[/name_u]- I LOVE it! I love this combo! [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is dashing and [name_u]Elm[/name_u] is so sweet.
Boys-
Casper [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]- not sure about the flow. I love both names, though.
[name_u]Leland[/name_u] [name_m]Benedict[/name_m]- I ADORE this. It’s my favorite [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] combo of all time.
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]Laurence[/name_u]- I love it! Such classic and handsome names.
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]- so sweet and cute on a little boy, so dashing on an adult.
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] Seabury- I love Seabury! This combo is 10/10
[name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m]- there’s nothing wrong with it, it just seems a bit lackluster next to combos like [name_u]Leland[/name_u] [name_m]Benedict[/name_m].
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] Arundel- I know where you got Arundel and [name_m]Cagney[/name_m] I like Arundel! Not a fan of [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]- I love both names so much! Something seems off about the flow, though.
[name_m]Cagney[/name_m] [name_m]Isidore[/name_m]- I adore this combo! [name_m]Cagney[/name_m] is and [name_m]Isidore[/name_m] goes well with him.
[name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] [name_u]Ezra[/name_u]- I like it! Something about it is a bit difficult to say, but the names are great.
I love your style. It’s magical, earthy and whimsical with a vintage twist
