Sorry for being nosy but that’s such a shame, I’ve never heard of her, is it really that tainted now/still?
I’m heavily considering it for our next baby should they be a girl and obviously I wouldn’t veto a name solely bc of a troll but still am curious as we also have a [name_m]French[/name_m] surname and it just feels so perfect
I really wouldn’t worry about it. Why taint a gorgeous name because of an annoymous person on a website when SO many wonderful, kind people out in the real world have that name? [name_m]You[/name_m] can find negatives and positives everywhere if you try hard enough to look. I really would’t go digging for no reason personally, especially if it’s associated with someone extremely niche who isn’t around anymore, I don’t think it’s worth it
and for the rest, just echoing what everyone else is saying. Such a GORGEOUS name and so many sweet, goregous nicknames to accompany it. If I was named [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] with a [name_m]French[/name_m] surname I’d be over the moon with my name
Oh no i definitely agree! It’s really a beautiful name, I mostly wonder if it’s the first association of the long time users who are still around
I would also be over the moon haha
For me not as much as it used to be? But still it’s been up until the last year that I had absolutely no interest in [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] at all? But you have to understand, I’d never heard the name before she joined Nameberry, so it felt quite a bit like [name_f]Beyoncé[/name_f] or [name_f]Madonna[/name_f] or [name_f]Cher[/name_f] where it’s iconic to the person, and on top of that, Nameberry was so much more close-knit than it is now… I feel like the berry regulars knew each other much better, multiple berries met their best friends through Nameberry (including me!), it wasn’t just name conversation, etc., many of them I knew on social media outside of Nameberry etc. That [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] was well loved by everyone; she asked the most wonderful questions that were so fun to answer and her style was amazing. [name_f]She[/name_f] made up this wonderful life she shared with all of us, all of it a lie, and collectively Nameberry LOVED her. I knew many berries who were absolutely GUTTED when they found out she was a fraud. [name_m]Her[/name_m] “baby” that she made up… it was in the top 5 google searches for her first name (Beatrice [name_f]Illyria[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] was her baby’s name, and the fact that I remember that should tell you something lol! I wasn’t even terribly close to her back then, but still it affected me a lot…). Dozens of berries were so incredibly invested in her joy and success and as a community we were deeply affected by it. [name_f]She[/name_f] joined back under different names two or three times after she was banned if I’m remembering correctly, and in general the name has carried so much grief and baggage for a lot of the older berries. I’m slowly beginning to love her and have thought of using [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] for my list myself, but it’s taken over a decade to disassociate myself from the heartache she caused. I never bring it up to try to keep someone else from using it, but especially for those who knew [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], it was more a reminder why it was absolutely off the table for some of us. There are so few of us left though so at this point it probably doesn’t come across that way, but for anyone without the baggage, it’s a delightful name worthy of all the love! I wish she didn’t carry all that heartache for me.
Wow honestly I’m shocked and so sorry! I audibly gasped at decade, anyways just keeping it short as to not overhaul poor naming123’s thread but I sincerely appreciate the explanation
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] is lovely!
I think it is nice in a [name_f]British[/name_f] accent (and probably many other European accents as well!) Unfortunately, when I say it, [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] comes out sounding rather close to the word “oddly.” (I am from the [name_m]Southern[/name_m] US.) I haven’t ever liked it for that reason.
