I was just wondering what you thought of the name [name_m]Troy[/name_m] for a girl. As for middle names I would use a feminine name because it is such a masculine name.
If you don’t like it what do you think is a nice unisex or boy name that you can use for a girl?
Let me know what you all think and what middle names you would use or sibling names.
I generally don’t mind surname names on either gender (I believe [name_m]Troy[/name_m] can be a surname), but the sound of [name_m]Troy[/name_m] feels very masculine to me. It could work on a girl, but I’m not a huge fan.
You might also like [name_u]Adair[/name_u], [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], [name_u]Sloane[/name_u], [name_f]Afton[/name_f], [name_u]Cruz[/name_u], [name_u]Haven[/name_u], or [name_u]Shea[/name_u]/[name_u]Shay[/name_u]. I really like [name_u]Adair[/name_u] for this style, it feels refined while having a strong, sturdy sound. [name_u]Claude[/name_u] is my favorite unisex name.
And it looks like you’re not looking for ultra-feminine names, but I did think of [name_f]Catriona[/name_f], nicknamed [name_m]Troy[/name_m]. [name_f]Catriona[/name_f] is usually pronounced [name_f]Katrina[/name_f], but I believe cat-ree-oh-na is an accepted pronunciation as well.
[name_m]Troy[/name_m] is such a stereotypical jock name. The type of guy to be friends with guys named [name_m]Trent[/name_m], [name_m]Brent[/name_m], and [name_m]Chad[/name_m]. Please don’t name a girl this.
Troian is super cute, as a PP mentioned. [name_m]Troy[/name_m] makes me think of High School Musical so very much a masculine and jock name to me. It actually borderlines on frat boy and not in a good way. It’s a no from me, sorry.
This. Well actually I knew a girl whose last name was [name_m]Troy[/name_m] so I kind of associate the name with her. But overwhelmingly, it feels too tied to High School Musical for me and I agree that it is fratty.
I don’t like it at all. Not for a girl, not for a boy, but that’s not what you asked. Therefore I am going to say yes. I am saying yes because I don’t like names having gender assignments. If we were talking about [name_u]Kyle[/name_u] or [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] i would be inclined to say yes, I just happen to not see the appeal of [name_m]Troy[/name_m] in general.
I would say that I don’t care what middle name you use, it’s still [name_m]Troy[/name_m]. It’s not more feminine because most people won’t even know her middle name. Not saying you shouldn’t use [name_m]Troy[/name_m]. If you really like it, you should use it. But if you feel [name_m]Troy[/name_m] on its own is very masculine I might pick a softer name like [name_m]Quinton[/name_m], [name_m]Roland[/name_m], [name_u]Kyle[/name_u], [name_u]Jude[/name_u]…
I’m not one to prefer “unisex” names in general, but [name_m]Troy[/name_m] is not a name I like in general. It has a very preppy/jock type of feel that I wouldn’t prefer for a boy or a girl. That said, I have only ever known one [name_m]Troy[/name_m] as an acquaintance, and he was quite nice. I doubt you’d run in to many other Troys on the playground, boy or girl!
