Honest thoughts on Wendy?

I recently started considering the name [name]Wendy[/name]; some parts of me loves it and some parts of me isn’t sure. What are your positive and negative opinions about the name [name]Wendy[/name]?

In addition, what would you use for a middle name for [name]Wendy[/name]? Would you use it with a last name ending in -cey (that’s two syllables)? Thanks everyone!

[name]Wendy[/name]'s adorable! [name]Wendy[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] was the first combo to come to mind and for the last name, I think it depends on how long it is.

I think of [name]Peter[/name] [name]Pan[/name], so love the name [name]Wendy[/name].

I would pair it with something spunky to counteract the softness of [name]Wendy[/name].

[name]Wendy[/name] [name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Wendy[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Wendy[/name] [name]Valentine[/name] (or [name]Valentina[/name])

(From the ones that popped into my head, I must like the way -ine names sound with [name]Wendy[/name])

Hmm. Two positive comments. That’s great to see! Thanks both of you

I have a [name]Wendy[/name] in my family. She’s very pretty. I also think of [name]Peter[/name] pan. Positive impressions of the name.

It CAN be used as a nickname to [name]Gwendolen[/name], which you may like. However, I typically prefer nicknamey names to longer names anyway, so I would go with just [name]Wendy[/name]. [name]Just[/name] wanted to throw that out there. I don’t have strong feelings either way toward [name]Wendy[/name]. A part of me thinks it’s dated, along the lines of [name]Brenda[/name] or [name]Cindy[/name]. But the [name]Peter[/name] [name]Pan[/name] connection is such a fun one. There is also a fast food connection, though I can’t see that being a serious teasing factor unless she is grossly overweight. I can’t decide if I find [name]Wendy[/name] whimsical or middle-aged. Guess I’m no help here. Lol

I’ve always loved [name]Wendy[/name] because of the [name]Peter[/name] [name]Pan[/name] association. I think it would be really refreshing to hear it used today. I don’t know if it will sound good with your last name though.

I like [name]Wendy[/name] it sounds friendly. I would love to meet a little [name]Wendy[/name]. I’m a bit unsure of how good it will sound with your last name.
A good rule of thumb is to say the name out loud with your last name a few times to hear how it sounds. What do you think? Your opinion is what matters most. [name]Wendy[/name] is a nice name.

[name]Wendy[/name] is sweet, breezy, and unexpected. I would love to meet a little [name]Wendy[/name].

I knew a [name]Wendy[/name] who was a gorgeous person inside and out - tall, slim, social worker working to care for neglected young children, long black hair, and amazing melodious Carribean accent.

So I like it.

But I also am a person that likes a longer name with a nickname, and [name]Gwendolen[/name] or [name]Gwyneth[/name] or even [name]Anwen[/name]/[name]Branwen[/name] etc. NN [name]Wendy[/name] is very appealing, especially as [name]Wendy[/name] itself doesn’t cut down to anything very cute except maybe [name]Win[/name]. But if you’re trying to AVOID nicknames, [name]Wendy[/name] could be a good one.

I’m definitely in the minority, but I hate it.

I love [name]Peter[/name] [name]Pan[/name]. But I can’t stand the name [name]Wendy[/name]. There’s just nothing good about it. I dislike the sound, I think it looks kinda bleh on paper, and it’s neither feminine/pretty nor tomboyish/spunky. My name is [name]Gwendolyn[/name], and when people suggest that I go by [name]Wendy[/name] or just suggest [name]Wendy[/name] as a nickname for my name I can’t help but cringe. I just find it…gross.

I can’t make myself like it; I’m sorry. It sounds like an old, dowdy woman to me.

I [name]Love[/name] the name [name]Wendy[/name]! I also have a [name]Wendy[/name] in the family who is slightly older than I am. She is one of those gorgeous cousins that I always loved to hang out with and get tips from. I don’t believe in dated names, so [name]Wendy[/name] should definately be an option

Huh. Definitely seems like this is turning out to be love or hate for most people.

I hated [name]Wendy[/name] until a main character was introduced in an anime I like. Now, I like the name a lot, but I’m not sure how well it would age. I would most likely use [name]Gwendolyn[/name] or perhaps [name]Arwen[/name] or [name]Elowen[/name], for more of a stretch, as a full name. However, with the trend of nicknames as first names in the UK I think [name]Wendy[/name] is a nice, unexpected choice.

I just read the info for [name]Wendy[/name] and saw that it was made up for the [name]Peter[/name] [name]Pan[/name] character. It seems like such a legit name with history in this day and age because everyone is so familiar with it. I love the name. I think you should use it. I don’t see why a little girl wouldn’t want her name to be associated with the character; it’s a great character!

As far as the last name, I’m imagining some with that ending. “[name]Wendy[/name] [name]Clancey[/name]” or “[name]Wendy[/name] Brancey” sounds just fine. I would use a three or four syllable middle name with it, even though I usually prefer short middle names.

[name]Wendy[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] -cey
[name]Wendy[/name] [name]Abigail[/name] -cey
are my favorites. other ideas for middles: [name]Alexandra[/name], [name]Isabel[/name], [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Emilia[/name]

I think it is cute, but I can’t see actually using it myself.

Oh I love [name]Wendy[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] AND [name]Wendy[/name] [name]Abigail[/name]. [name]Glad[/name] to see more positive opinions than negative - I honestly thought it would be hated right away.

[name]Wendy[/name] [name]Abigail[/name] is super cute, I agree.

I prefer [name]Gwendolen[/name], nn [name]Wendy[/name], but [name]Wendy[/name] can work alone. I find it a wee bit dated, but I like the sound of the name–another poster said sweet and breezy and I think that is right on. I think there is some debate as to whether [name]Wendy[/name] was invented by [name]Barrie[/name], but he most definitely popularized it.

[name]Wendy[/name] sounds dated to me.
