Honesty about Piper

So just when I thought we were coming to an agreement and winding down our search, my husband throws [name_u]Piper[/name_u] at me for a girl.
I’m torn. Half the time I think it is hilarious and horrible as a first name, the other half of the time I think it may just be cool enough to work!
What are your thoughts about [name_u]Piper[/name_u] for a girl?
Our last name ends in the “-er” sound, so that is another drawback about potentially using this name.
P.S. If I [name_u]EVER[/name_u] agreed to this name, the middle would have to be something super girly and cute, like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] for example…

thanks berries!

Honest? I don’t like it. It sounds like a creepy cutesy eight year old who only wears jumpsuits. But I like the beginning sound, Pipe, and there might be something else there you can use. Maybe [name_u]Piper[/name_u] as middle? That way it won’t clash so much with the last and your daughter can choose whether she wants to use it.

[name_u]Piper[/name_u] is one of those names I have a love/hate relationship with. I love [name_u]Harper[/name_u] and I feel it as a similar style; musical, fun, and spunky. I do not like that it has the word pipe in it. I am not a smoker, never was, never will be.

I like it! One of my best friends is a huge [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] fan, so I hear about [name_u]Piper[/name_u] [name_m]McLean[/name_m] a LOT. I’ve never had anything against the name, and I don’t find anything particularly wrong. It’s cute and I think you should consider it!

Any name that is sometimes hilarious or horrible to you probably should get exed off your list. Unless you are really hard to please & liking it maybe sometimes is a big deal. But I say if you have other names you like more, consider those.

Personally [name_u]Piper[/name_u] is not my favorite. I find the “Pipe” part problematic, I don’t like the unisex aspect & it feels sort of dated, like a 90s version of [name_u]Harper[/name_u]. It makes me think of pan flutes and feels shrill to me. It also reminds me of the deeply flawed main character on [name_u]Orange[/name_u] Is The [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]Black[/name_m] so I pretty much think of a type A, annoyingly crunchy 30 something if you’ve never seen the show.

Maybe [name_f]Pippa[/name_f]?

I think [name_u]Piper[/name_u] is a great name, and super cute and spunky. I can’t say I haven’t been influenced to think that way though… I know a very stylish and hip fashion-blogger newspaper columnist mom with a [name_u]Piper[/name_u].

I say [name_u]Piper[/name_u] and [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] very similarly (Pie-pa versus pip-ah) I do like it I don’t find it modern and trendy and prefer it to [name_f]Pippa[/name_f].

I know a gorgeous little girl named [name_u]Piper[/name_u]. So, to me, [name_u]Piper[/name_u] is super girly because that is the only [name_u]Piper[/name_u] I know! She has dark blonde curls, big doe eyes, and the sweetest, spunky personality! It fits her perfectly!

My children’s last name would not work with -er ending names as it is also an -er ending name, but it depends on the name, I have found a few that work really well! Good luck!

Honestly, I don’t like [name_u]Piper[/name_u] at all.

I like it! It’s cute and musical. Much prefer over [name_u]Harper[/name_u], which is equal parts [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] and harpy to me :stuck_out_tongue: The one I know has sisters [name_u]Sloane[/name_u] and [name_u]Layne[/name_u], if that helps

I think it’s cute as a nickname, not my style in terms of a full name. I also think it’s cute as a middle to lighten up a formal first name.

My super honest opinion is if I’m an employer and I see a resume with the name [name_u]Piper[/name_u] on it, I would snicker to myself and skip to the next one unless it said “[name_m]Harvard[/name_m]” under education. It’s not the sort of name you take seriously… I never expect to meet a Supreme [name_m]Court[/name_m] [name_u]Justice[/name_u] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] or [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] or [name_u]Piper[/name_u] the CEO of some really big company. I do expect to meet [name_u]Piper[/name_u] the yoga instructor. No offense intended (I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] YOGA). I just don’t know how a grown woman can wear [name_u]Piper[/name_u].

There are two [name_u]Piper[/name_u]'s in my daughter’s preschool class (out of 12!) which I found surprising because I honestly just don’t get the appeal.

I don’t “get” [name_u]Piper[/name_u] at all. It just sounds obnoxious.

I’m not a huge fan of [name_u]Piper[/name_u]. Sounds like an airplane to me ([name_u]Piper[/name_u] Cub); sister to [name_u]Bonanza[/name_u]…

I don’t think it’s cool. If that’s why you like it, I’d reconsider. I don’t know what naming trends are like where you are but it’s definitely not what I would think of as edgy or out there or anything. [name_m]Just[/name_m] sort of of-the-decade, if you know what I mean.

I don’t completely hate it - not like I feel about, say, [name_u]Madison[/name_u] - but it’s a trendy sort of name. It’s a bit cutesy.

The good things about it is it’s straightforward, it’s simple, and its not top-of-the-charts but it’s pretty widely known. It also has a “sweeter” sound than many occupational names, though really occupational names oughtn’t have genders. I’m also fond of [name_u]Pepper[/name_u] as a NN for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_u]Piper[/name_u] is somewhat like that. [name_u]Piper[/name_u] on Charmed was pretty adorable too - I think that may be where it got its first burst of popularity?

[name_u]Piper[/name_u] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] leaves me completely cold. I think I’ve met two already? Or maybe one was [name_u]Piper[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], I can’t remember it was so bland. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is a bit of a filler middle, and with a name as much of a 2000s bubble as [name_u]Piper[/name_u], it just feels sorta by the numbers. Sorry. If I was set on using [name_u]Piper[/name_u] I would pair it with a more striking middle. If I wanted to use [name_f]Grace[/name_f] I’d move it to the first name position and pick a middle to suit it instead of using it to balance out a first.

The trendy name of [name_u]Piper[/name_u] is too cutesy for my comfort level. I don’t think it will age well. I wouldn’t use it with a surname ending in “er” either because it may sound even more cartoonish than it does already.

I don’t like it. I think “pay the [name_u]Piper[/name_u].” And I’m also not a big fan of names that end in “-er” with a few exceptions on girls.

To me, [name_u]Piper[/name_u] is a 3-legged rescue cat that an acquaintance of mine has. Sorry, I don’t think it works for a person :frowning: Also, I don’t think [name_u]Piper[/name_u] ***-er sounds good either.

But I do love [name_f]Grace[/name_f]!

I know a little [name_u]Piper[/name_u] as well, so I immediately think of her. I think it’s pretty and don’t have any of the negative associations people are mentioning.

I actually really like it, but it’s definitely very “cool” so it really wouldn’t work for us. We’re way too dorky for it to fit. To me it’s up there with names like [name_u]Vesper[/name_u], [name_m]Flint[/name_m], [name_u]Flannery[/name_u], [name_m]Jove[/name_m], [name_m]Hawk[/name_m], and [name_m]Drake[/name_m] - your family has to have a certain kinda vibe for it to work.

I know a new baby named [name_u]Piper[/name_u]…her daddy picked the name. Interesting, no? But I would not do a [name_u]Piper[/name_u] Something-Er name, it’s too cartoon-character-ish.
