We are honoring an [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] but want a more modern name for our daughter. Which do you prefer?
- Laine
- Delainey
- Delaney
Thoughts on these three? Thanks.

My personal favorite is [name_u]Delaney[/name_u], but I think the [name_u]Delainey[/name_u] spelling is a more obvious honor name for [name_f]Elaine[/name_f].
Out of those [name_u]Delaney[/name_u], but I would actually use the gorgeous [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]! I see that it may not be your style, but it’s a name that will come back I think.
Laine is my favorite!
Delaney
I like [name_u]Laine[/name_u] best!
Laine is my favorite
Biased because I have a sister named [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] (nn Lain) to honor an [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] and it works wonderfully
Depending on the middle name/your last name, I like both [name_u]Laine[/name_u] and [name_u]Delaney[/name_u]. I don’t love the [name_u]Delainey[/name_u] spelling, but can see how it would be more obvious of an honor name.
Laine
Laine.
Laine for sure!
My favorite from these is [name_u]Delaney[/name_u]–it’s bright, energetic, and lively. But I also love the idea of [name_u]Laine[/name_u] nn [name_f]Lainey[/name_f]–in fact, just [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] would be my pick if that’s an option! You have lovely choices here though, whichever way you go!
I like [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] the best as a name.
[name_u]Laine[/name_u] is the best direct connection to [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] though.
Personally I like honor names that stay close to the original name, so I like [name_u]Laine[/name_u] best.
Delaney!
My favorite is [name_u]Delaney[/name_u]!
Delaney is spunky and cool!
I like [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] more than all of these personally (I would probably opt for [name_f]Elaine[/name_f] in the middle and then a more modern first name that’s unattached to family under these circumstances and criteria) but of the options you gave, my vote goes to [name_u]Delaney[/name_u].
Laine is really sweet! As would be nn “[name_f]Lainey[/name_f]”.
