Honor Names for an Erica

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there! I don’t know how exactly it works here but I was wondering if someone could help me find an honor name for someone named [name_f]Erica[/name_f]. I have such a long list of girls names I would like to name my DD ranging from [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] to [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] but my son was named after DH’s father as he passed away the week he was born. This was okay with me because I really liked the name [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. Unfortunately for me, I was unable to conceive after [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and DD is being adopted through surrogacy. The thing is though, not only do I want both my kids to have meaningful names DH and I want to honor her birth mom; [name_f]Erica[/name_f].

Problem is, I hate hate hate the name [name_f]Erica[/name_f]! I feel so awfully nasty complaining about something like a name especially when it belongs to someone so sweet and compassionate but I cannot possibly see myself having a daughter named [name_f]Erica[/name_f]! But, I would still like to honour her in some way! I was thinking of putting [name_f]Erica[/name_f] on the birth cert. nn [name_f]Era[/name_f] but its just not sticking! And the name [name_u]Ricky[/name_u] is just not something I see myself naming a child in 2020.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe [name_f]Frederica[/name_f]?

Ciera, as suggested, is a great idea!

Maybe [name_f]Erin[/name_f]? Or [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], which has all the letters (including -ric together).

Erica is another name for heather so maybe [name_f]Heather[/name_f]?

Thirding [name_f]Ciera[/name_f]. A name starting or ending with -ca could work. [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Katie[/name_f]?

Could you use [name_f]Erica[/name_f] as a middle name and then pick a name you like for her first name?

Have you considered using a name with the same meaning as [name_f]Erica[/name_f]? [name_f]Erica[/name_f] means “eternal ruler,” and some names with similar meanings are…

  • Amari: means “eternal”
  • Amirah: means “king/ruler”
  • Aubrey/Aubree: means “elf ruler”
  • Avery/Averie: means “ruler of the elves”
  • Henrietta/Etta/Harriet/Hatsy/Hattie: means “estate ruler”
  • Federica/Frederica/Frederique/Frieda/Fritzi/Fritzie: means “peaceful ruler”
  • Geraldine/Gearoidin: means “ruler with the spear”
  • Isolde: means “ice ruler”
  • Landry: means “ruler”
  • Meredith: means “great ruler”
  • Mira: one of its many meanings is “female ruler”
  • Roderica: means “renowned ruler”
  • Serayah: means “God is ruler”
  • Walder: means “ruler”

I hope this helps!

Would changing the spelling to Arika help?

What about…
[name_f]Ricki[/name_f]/Rikki
[name_f]Erin[/name_f]

Or you could name her after something special to her birth mother. ([name_m]Favorite[/name_m] flower, birthstone, favorite color, favorite book/movie/music.

Agree with the previous suggestions of [name_f]Ciera[/name_f] or putting [name_f]Erica[/name_f] in the middle. Would you be comfortable asking the birth mother how she would like to be honored ([name_f]Erica[/name_f]'s birthmonth/favorite flower/etc). Perhaps you and your husband could collaborate with the birth mom and find a name that is meaningful to all three of you. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if you didn’t find a name that directly honored [name_f]Erica[/name_f] you could tell your daughter the story of the honor.

Ciera & [name_m]Jack[/name_m] would make a lovely sibset and a great way to pay tribute to erica

Playing with letters E.R.I.C.A
Aerie ([name_f]Air[/name_f]-e)
[name_f]Irie[/name_f] (eye-ree)
Croia/Creia ([name_u]Cree[/name_u]-a)
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
Cieran
Cairi
Cateri/Kateri

Letters E.R.I.C.A is in the name:

Eila [name_f]Carys[/name_f] (Eye-la)
[name_f]Cara[/name_f] [name_f]Eisley[/name_f]
[name_f]Racquel[/name_f] [name_f]Eila[/name_f]
[name_f]Chiara[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f]
[name_u]Ezri[/name_u] [name_f]Carys[/name_f]

Love the suggestion of [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].

I would suggest using [name_f]Erica[/name_f] as the middle name, if a variation of the name doesn’t stand out to you.

Or you could name her [name_f]Erica[/name_f], but use a nickname. I LOVE [name_u]Rickie[/name_u] for a girl, on it’s own, or as a nickname.

I’ve always thought [name_f]Ceira[/name_f] (the letters scrambled) or [name_f]Keira[/name_f] or [name_f]Kiera[/name_f] or [name_f]Ciera[/name_f] would be a great [name_f]Erica[/name_f] namesake!

But yeah, a lot of the other options are great.

Joining the [name_f]Ciera[/name_f] support - the anagram keeps the link but gives her a name in her own right

Carrie uses the same sounds as [name_f]Erica[/name_f] as well so could be an option, or another -ica name ([name_f]Monica[/name_f], [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] erc) may work. It depends how close you want to stick to [name_f]Erica[/name_f] whilst not using [name_f]Erica[/name_f], if that makes sense.

If I were you, I’d use a name with the same/a similar meaning either in the first or middle spot. [name_f]My[/name_f] pick would be [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] or [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]; in fact, [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] and [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] sound lovely with both. Or you could use [name_f]Etta[/name_f] either as a middle or first, which I think is super cool. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_f]Etta[/name_f] would make a gorgeous sibling set!
