[name]Hi[/name] berries! I’m wondering if using [name]Donovan[/name] to honor a [name]Donald[/name] is a good idea/makes sense/works? If I used [name]Donovan[/name], it would most likely be in the middle. If [name]Donovan[/name] made it up front, I think he’d go by [name]Van[/name]/[name]Vanny[/name]. Any opinions/thoughts? Are there any other nicknames from [name]Donovan[/name]? Besides the obvious [name]Don[/name]/[name]Donny[/name]?
Side note: [name]Donald[/name] is my grandfather, full name [name]Donald[/name] [name]Eugene[/name]. I absolutely adore [name]Eugenie[/name] and would use it in the middle for a girl.
My grandpa’s name is [name]Donald[/name] [name]Gene[/name], lol! But he HATES his first name and goes by [name]Gene[/name]. Since he hated his name he named his first born son, my uncle, [name]Ronald[/name]. So you could do something like that. (he goes by [name]Ron[/name])
With [name]Donald[/name]/[name]Donovan[/name], I think [name]Don[/name]/[name]Donny[/name] is the only real obvious option, anything else might be a stretch… I love the name [name]Eugene[/name] so you could use that as a middle or just plain [name]Gene[/name].
I love [name]Donovan[/name]! And [name]Eugenie[/name], for that matter. I think both are really great ways to honor a [name]Donald[/name] [name]Eugene[/name].
Hmm, the only other thought I had was anything that has “don” in it somewhere–my first thought was [name]Jadon[/name], which I still see as separate from the [name]Jayden[/name] craze, although the sound is still just as popular. [name]Jadon[/name], however, is a Biblical name… I believe jah-duhn is the more common pronunciation, but [name]JAY[/name]-duhn is also acceptable. I’m guessing it wouldn’t be well-loved by most Berries, though, haha.
A few others I found in a quick search:
[name]Adonijah[/name] (very Biblical, though, haha–not sure if that really appeals to you!)
[name]Donatello[/name]
[name]Donall[/name] (a form of [name]Donald[/name]; somehow it feels more refreshing, though!)
[name]Donato[/name]
Donegan
[name]Donnelly[/name]
[name]Sheldon[/name]
I found quite a few variants that had “don” in them, but were misspelled–like [name]Langsdon[/name] instead of [name]Langston[/name], [name]Dontae[/name] instead of [name]Dante[/name] ([name]Dante[/name] has the “[name]Don[/name]” sound, though, so I would think maybe it’s usable?), etc.
Unless you’re really Russian, I don’t think it’d work, but I’ve always loved the Russian version of [name]Eugene[/name], Evgeniy.
Honestly, I think [name]Donovan[/name] is your best bet! Good luck!
I think [name]Donovan[/name] to honor a [name]Donald[/name] is great! It’s got [name]Don[/name] right there. Also, I would use [name]Van[/name] as a nn.

“[name]Donall[/name] (a form of [name]Donald[/name]; somehow it feels more refreshing, though!)” - this is interesting. I was reading up on this name and found out it also stems from an Irish variant of [name]Daniel[/name]. Coincidentally, I would also like to honor a [name]Daniel[/name]. I’ve added [name]Donall[/name] to the list, thanks [name]Ashley[/name]!
Dantea, you’ve listed names I hadn’t thought of, amazing! [name]Ardon[/name], [name]Greydon[/name] (Could honor [name]Gregory[/name] & [name]Donald[/name] in one name!!), & [name]Brandon[/name] (I’ve always had a sweet spot for [name]Brandon[/name]. I used to babysit a [name]Brandon[/name] & his mom called him her lil bran muffin, cute!)
Lot’s to think about, I knew I could count on you berries!
