Sure enough, once the baby gets to 4 months old, I start thinking about names again!
I have wanted to name a baby after my mom ([name]Patricia[/name], obviously) for a long time, but she hates her name. When she was born, her parents wanted a boy, and didn’t have a girls’ name picked at all. They let her oldest brother name her … after HIMSELF! Yep. [name]Patrick[/name]. Her middle name ([name]Eileen[/name]) was just randomly chosen, recommended by another mom at the hospital, as the name she had just rejected for her daughter!
All that to say, I can’t use [name]Patricia[/name] (or [name]Patrice[/name], etc), my mom wouldn’t be happy with that. I have a few ideas though, and I thought maybe the creative berries could come up with some more options!
[name]Beatrix[/name] or [name]Beatrice[/name] - my maiden name means “happy”, and with [name]Beatrice[/name], we could possibly use the nickname [name]Tricia[/name], which my mom goes by
[name]Patience[/name] - still has [name]Pat[/name], plus it’s found way back on our family tree (like 1700s)
Or just using the initials PE.
I have thought of using [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Patience[/name] as a combination too.
Anything other ideas with [name]Patricia[/name], [name]Tricia[/name], [name]Eileen[/name], or a connection to “happy”?
[name]How[/name] an anagram to honor your mom? It wouldn’t be an obvious copy of her name, and it would incorporate all the letters of her name. Here are some choices:
I feel you. My grandfather’s name is [name]Patrick[/name] [name]Jr[/name]., his sister’s was [name]Patricia[/name]. My father is also named [name]Patrick[/name]. My mother’s mother is named [name]Patsy[/name] (which she loathes, although wishes she were a [name]Patricia[/name]).
I think the nn [name]Tricia[/name] is very modern sounding, but I wouldn’t use it on its own.
What about using your mother’s maiden name as a first or middle?
According to behindthename.com [name]Patton[/name] is possibly derived from a diminutive of [name]Patrick[/name].
Mom’s maiden name doesn’t really work for me (within my style, I guess) because it’s an Irish name that became very popular as a first name a generation ago. As such it sounds dated and uncreative now.
I think [name]Beatrice[/name] or [name]Beatrix[/name] is a good option, thanks for the feedback on [name]Patience[/name], and I’ll think about [name]Leticia[/name] some more for sure.
