Honoring a Skipper?

Yesterday my husband oddly brought up the topic of names as we have been discussing having another baby next year and his main question really stumped me.

He would like to know how we could honor his dear friend and football coach who has only ever been called [name_m]Skipper[/name_m]? Our dear [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] has been like a second father to [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and so I am fully on board with trying to find away to get his name on board with a future bub.

I can’t think of anything, totally blank, so I thought I’d put it out to all of you who know a hell of a lot more about names than I do!

Personally, I think [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] would go perfectly with your other two boys names. Would you ever consider using it as a first? If you don’t like that idea you could use [name_m]Kip[/name_m], or Skeeter as a middle.

I agree. Bugsy, [name_u]Jem[/name_u], and [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] are so much fun together. I also like the idea of [name_m]Kip[/name_m]. You could use it as a nickname for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], or [name_m]Casper[/name_m], or you could just use [name_m]Kip[/name_m] as his given name.

Same here – if Bugsy and [name_u]Jem[/name_u] are your boys’ actual names, [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] seems to fit right in! @southern.maple has some outstanding suggestions for more “proper” names though, which would fit in really well if Bugsy and [name_u]Jem[/name_u] have more formal names.

I would stick with either [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] or [name_m]Skip[/name_m], but only in the middle name slot. [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] as a first name would make me think it’s a title for your last name, like someone who goes boating a lot.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m],
A guy in the year above me is called [name_m]Skip[/name_m] and it’s not short for anything. I think it’s quite a nice name and you could either use it as a first or a middle. Bugsy, [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_m]Skip[/name_m] is really cute!
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] I helped,
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] xx

Someone the other day had [name_m]Skip[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_m]Philip[/name_m].
So maybe [name_m]Philip[/name_m] nn [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] should be fine.
In all honesty, I find [name_f]Phillipa[/name_f] (female) the best to go with the nn [name_m]Skipper[/name_m]

A dear teacher and mentor of mine in middle school went exclusively by [name_m]Skip[/name_m]. I prefer the shortened version to the full [name_m]Skipper[/name_m], but I think it would fit in nicely with your boys names. (Adding a 4-letter babe along with Bugsy and [name_u]Jem[/name_u] makes me smile.) If it’s a girl, then I’m not sure what you could do. Any S name would work I suppose? Also, I believe [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] was the little sister of [name_f]Barbie[/name_f], so perhaps it could work on a girl, depending on whether you thought that was an endearing or strange reference, haha. =]

Thanks for your replys. I do actually like [name_m]Skip[/name_m] as a name, I just didn’t want the adversity when everyone thought I was crazy!

Hmmm Bugsy, [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_m]Skip[/name_m] it actually doesn’t sound to bad does it!

So it’s kind of great to know that you actually like it…but I’m still a little unsure! [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] is on my list as a middle name so I guess we could get [name_m]Skipper[/name_m] or [name_m]Skip[/name_m] from that, but then again I kind of figure that maybe if we are going to exclusively call a kid [name_m]Skip[/name_m] then maybe we shouldn’t bother with another name… hmmm who knows, oh well it’s a long way off anyway!

But thanks again, maybe we will just be forever know as the family with the oddly named children, ha!

[name_m]Skipper[/name_m] is doable especially next to Bugsy, though I’d use [name_m]Skip[/name_m] as a nn only. If you love the names your children will be fine and who cares if people think you’re crazy.

Bugsy, [name_u]Jem[/name_u], and [name_m]Skip[/name_m] are kind of an amazing sib-set. I’ve been thinking about [name_m]Skip[/name_m] lately and how to get to it, so it’s nice to see other opinions on this without having to make myself yet another thread. I like [name_m]Skip[/name_m] as a standalone name, and I feel like it fits in perfectly with other 4-letter names like [name_m]Walt[/name_m] or [name_m]Milo[/name_m]. I’ve seen your signature before but never knew whether Bugsy and [name_u]Jem[/name_u] were their first names or nicknames.

[name_m]Skipper[/name_m], [name_m]Skip[/name_m], or [name_m]Kip[/name_m] would all honor him, and go well with your children’s names!
