Looking for a subtle way to honor our interests - chemistry and music
We are expecting our first at the end of [name]May[/name] (a little girl). We met in the college marching band and music has a special place in both our heart’s. He has a PhD in chemistry (and a degree in music performance) and I work in pharmacy. We finally have a short list so I thought I’d ask for some outsiders opinions. Our last name is Humphries.
just thought of [name]Rosalind[/name] (or maybe [name]Rosalie[/name]/[name]Rosie[/name]) after [name]Rosalind[/name] [name]Franklin[/name]. That might be more of a biology relation though…
Here are some thoughts for music:
[name]Octavia[/name] – for a musical octave
[name]Allegra[/name] – musical term
[name]Vivian[/name] – based on musical term vivo (lively)
Here are some thoughts for Chemistry:
[name]Beryl[/name] – based on the element Beryllium
[name]Ruth[/name] – based on the element Rutherfordium
[name]Marigold[/name] – based on the element gold
[name]Aurelia[/name] – means golden
[name]Ariana[/name] – name means silver
[name]Ruby[/name] – for Rubidium
[name]How[/name] fun! I liked Michaelis, after the Michaelis-Menten equation/kinetics, right?
[name]Rosalind[/name] [name]Franklin[/name] would be great as she was actually a structural chemist and her contribution to the double helix was the X-ray crystallography.
Other:
Nucleophile (I kid, I kid)
Arrhenius
Faraday
Avogadro
[name]Polly[/name] (as in polymer, poly…)
[name]Dalton[/name]
Diene
Gibbs
[name]Henderson[/name]
[name]Iona[/name] (ions)
Ketene
Chatelier
[name]Lewis[/name]
[name]Pascale[/name]
Photini (a Greek name from which photon was derived)
[name]Roisin[/name] (quite close to rosin)
[name]Violet[/name] (ultraviolet)
[name]Valencia[/name] (valence)
[name]Susannah[/name] (zusammen)
[name]Xenia[/name] (xenon)
[name]Vesper[/name] Joule - gotta say that this is stunning. [name]Just[/name] beautulf. I really like it! FYI [name]Vesper[/name] was the name of a [name]Bond[/name] girl
[name]Addison[/name] [name]Aria[/name] - I like [name]Aria[/name]. What about [name]Aria[/name] Joule?
[name]Cera[/name] Lydian - I like this a lot as well, though it would definitely be misspelled a lot more
[name]Aria[/name] Michaelis - this is interesting. Pretty. I like it
[name]Addison[/name] Rayleigh/Rayleigh [name]Addison[/name] - I’m not fond of either name here, sorry, sounds very trendy
[name]Tabitha[/name] Timbre - [name]Tabitha[/name] is nice but Timbre is horrible, sorry. And the rhyminess I just can’t get behind “[name]Tab[/name] [name]Tam[/name]”
The only one I like from your list is [name]Vesper[/name] Joule. It’s the only stand out. [name]Aria[/name], [name]Addison[/name], Rayleigh, [name]Tabitha[/name], and [name]Cera[/name] (people will just hear [name]Sarah[/name]) are common. I wouldn’t ask the story behind them because they are everyday names
I’m not a chem person so I’ll suggest some of my favorite unique musical names
[name]Minuet[/name]- 1st song I learned to play was [name]Bach[/name]'s [name]Minuet[/name] in G major. Maybe a bit much for fn but a nice mn
Ballad
[name]Shira[/name]- song or poem (Hebrew)
Lirit- musical or poetic (Hebrew)
[name]Fifer[/name]/[name]Fife[/name]- hate [name]Piper[/name], love [name]Harper[/name] but it’s overdone so I’ve moved on to [name]Fifer[/name]
[name]Arietta[/name]- I kind of fear it will seem made-up or like a country double-barrel name due to the popularity of [name]Aria[/name] and [name]Etta[/name]
[name]Sonnet[/name]- a poem but poems are very musical, plus I don’t care for [name]Sonata[/name] because it’s more known as a car
[name]Arabesque[/name]- feels less weird due to [name]Arabella[/name], but I’d still only use as a mn
Cymbal
Prelude- I think it makes a lovely mn
Siren- I have mixed feelings about the Sirens
I like blade’s suggestions of [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Valencia[/name]. Maybe [name]Aria[/name] [name]Violet[/name] Humphries (really like this one!) or [name]Aria[/name] [name]Valencia[/name] Humphries. I do like [name]Aria[/name] Michaelis off your list, as well. And Michaelis is not as common as [name]Violet[/name], if that makes a difference to you.
