Honoring Mum and Dad

Note:Not expecting just collecting

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries,
In the future, I would like to honor my parents. My mums mn is [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (I love the name so no probs) and her first means ‘bee’, so maybe a name associating to honey or a name beginning with B and call them ‘[name_f]Bea[/name_f]’?
My dads mn is [name_m]Alan[/name_m]. I have though about [name_f]Alana[/name_f] but is dated. I have also thought about [name_u]Harmony[/name_u], as in my baby name book it says [name_m]Alan[/name_m] meaning ‘harmony’. However I checked on many sites, including NB and it says [name_m]Alan[/name_m] means ‘[name_m]Little[/name_m] rock’?

So my name combos are:
[name_u]Harmony[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Alana[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]

Using a B name with the nickname [name_f]Bea[/name_f]/[name_f]Bee[/name_f] is a lovely idea, and gives you the chance to honour your mum while still having lots of flexibility to use names you like. I always liked [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] going by [name_f]Bee[/name_f] in the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants series.

For [name_f]Jane[/name_f] you could use any variant of [name_m]John[/name_m]/[name_f]Jane[/name_f], for a boy or girl: Meaning, origin and history of the name Jane - Behind the Name (And if you click on “[name_m]John[/name_m]” under related names you can get masculine forms.)

For your dad, what about [name_u]Malin[/name_u] (pronounced like [name_m]Alan[/name_m] with an M at the front) or [name_f]Alina[/name_f]? I met a little girl named [name_u]Malin[/name_u] the other day and it was really sweet, definitely seemed to suit her

What about taking your dad’s first initial and putting it on the end of his name, making [name_m]Alan[/name_m] [name_f]Lana[/name_f]? Like [name_f]Lana[/name_f] [name_u]Del[/name_u] [name_u]Ray[/name_u]? Of course then there’s the problem of what [name_f]Lana[/name_f] spells backwards, but it is a pretty name. I like the idea of using [name_f]Bea[/name_f]/[name_f]Bee[/name_f] as a nickname in honor of your mom’s name’s meaning.

I like the idea of using [name_f]Bee[/name_f] as a nickname for a B- name, and I also like [name_f]Alana[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f].

What are your thoughts on [name_f]Nala[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Nala[/name_f] being [name_m]Alan[/name_m] spelled backwards and having a far subtler link to granddad? Other ideas: [name_f]Alanis[/name_f] and [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] (combining the two leaving first or middle open to something entirely different that you love).

What about using a B- name with a sound like [name_m]Alan[/name_m] in it?
Something like [name_f]Briallen[/name_f], [name_f]Blanca[/name_f] or [name_f]Blanche[/name_f]
Other name combinations (with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_m]Alan[/name_m]) are [name_f]Jayleen[/name_f]/[name_f]Jaline[/name_f]/however you spell it and [name_f]Jaqueline[/name_f]
Also, I love the suggestions of [name_f]Nala[/name_f] and [name_f]Lana[/name_f]!

Beatrix Alaina “Bea”
Bellamy Jane “Bee”
Bridget Alana “Bea”
Bethany Jane “Bea”
Blythe Alaina “Bea”
Jana Bea
Alaina/Alayna Bea
Marlaina Jane “Marley”

[name_f]Lana[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Nala[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] are good ideas.

My favourite B names (to get to the nickname [name_f]Bea[/name_f]) are:
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]

Also, [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] means honeybee, which could be a nice link?

I also love the suggestion of [name_f]Lana[/name_f] as an anagram for [name_m]Alan[/name_m]. [name_f]Alana[/name_f] is cute too, as is [name_f]Aliana[/name_f].
According to name berry, [name_m]Alan[/name_m] means cheerful - so you could go with something like [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f], which has the same meaning?

I just looked at [name_m]Alan[/name_m] on Nameberry and the mn is “handsome, cheerful.” It seems to have so many different meanings! I agree about [name_f]Alana[/name_f] - I feel like it’s outdated. Out of the choices above, I would pick [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. You may also want to consider using [name_m]Alan[/name_m] as a middle. There are so many unisex/surname names out there I really don’t think it would be too far out of place.

[name_f]Melina[/name_f] - Means [name_f]Honey[/name_f], nn. [name_u]Mel[/name_u] or [name_f]Lina[/name_f]
[name_f]Allene[/name_f] - Feminine version of [name_m]Allen[/name_m], nn. [name_u]Ali[/name_u], [name_f]Lena[/name_f]
[name_u]Bryn[/name_u] - nn. [name_f]Bee[/name_f]
[name_u]Brinley[/name_u] - nn. [name_f]Bee[/name_f]
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u] - nn. [name_f]Bee[/name_f]

[name_f]Melina[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Allene[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u] [name_f]Alana[/name_f]
[name_u]Brinley[/name_u] [name_f]Alana[/name_f]

One more suggestion, is there anything that your dad really enjoyed or something that honors a memory you have that can be translated into a name? [name_u]Harley[/name_u] is only on my list because my dad and I used to take road trips together on his motorcycle and are some of my fondest memories of him. Thus, it would be an honor name even though it has nothing to do with his actual name.
