Honoring my babys father

my unborn babys father got killed yesterday morning in a fire. his name was joshua called josh 4 short i am having a little girl due in 5 wks i am wanting to honor his memory by naming her after him…any suggestions his last name is pady

I’m so sorry to hear that. I can’t think of any feminine forms of [name]Joshua[/name], although maybe other folks on here can help.

What about giving your little girl his initials? I think that would be a nice way to honor him.

Or, instead, were there any girls’ names he mentioned really liking? Since she’ll never know her daddy, maybe you could give her a name you know he liked. That way your daughter can feel like he helped name her.

I hope that helps. Best wishes.

I am so sorry for your loss. [name]How[/name] about [name]Jocelyn[/name]? I am not usually in favor of “unique” spellings, but in this case, you could go with [name]Josslyn[/name] and call her [name]Joss[/name] for short. What was his middle name? Maybe you can incorporate a feminine version into a middle name.

I’m very sorry for your loss.

There aren’t many ways to honor [name]Joshua[/name] directly.

Here are some names that share similar letters:

[name]Joanna[/name]/[name]Johanna[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] - nn [name]Josie[/name] sounds similar to [name]Josh[/name].
[name]Jocelyn[/name]
[name]Sasha[/name]

Is there a characteristic he really valued? Or that many would remember him by?

[name]Vera[/name] means truth
[name]Grace[/name]
[name]Hope[/name]
[name]Faith[/name]

I like the idea of using his initials.

Sorry I couldn’t be of much help!

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. Knowing his middle name may make it easier to find a name to honor him. For example, if it was [name]John[/name], the baby could be [name]Jane[/name]. I also really like the previous poster’s suggestion of [name]Jocelyn[/name]- [name]Joss[/name] and [name]Josh[/name] sound very similar.
One option I think you may want to consider is using [name]Joshua[/name], as is, in the middle. I normally don’t care for boy’s names on girls at all, but in this case, I think it will give your daughter a connection to her father that she otherwise wouldn’t have. I don’t think it would be a problem in the middle spot, and if you pair it with a super feminine first name like [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name], or [name]Felicity[/name], I’m sure there would be no gender confusion.

I’m so sorry for your loss. There really arent any feminine forms of the name [name]Joshua[/name] that I can think of. Joshlyn came to mind but Im pretty certain that its not a real name. It might make a nice mn though. I’m sure she would like the idea of having a middle name to honor her father but a first name that was still hers. Pady would make a good mn too. That way she can carry both of your last names. Best wishes to you and your daughter.

I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. I like the suggestion of [name]Josslyn[/name] (nn [name]Joss[/name]), or to use Pady, you could consider [name]Patricia[/name] (nn [name]Patti[/name]/Pady). The only other names I could think of that keeps the ‘sh’ part of [name]Joshua[/name], would be [name]Sasha[/name], or [name]Pasha[/name] (my sister’s mn).

his middle name was grant

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I agree with the poster who thought that [name]Joshua[/name] as a middle name would be a good way to honour him. However, if it was me I would choose [name]Jocelyn[/name] spelt this way and nn her [name]Joss[/name].

Wishing you all the best and I would love to see the birth announcement here on nameberry.

Sending best wishes and condolences to you and all the family.

rollo

PS I just noticed that Dad’s mn was [name]Grant[/name] so I suggest that you give her the middle name of [name]Grace[/name]. [name]Jocelyn[/name] [name]Grace[/name], so you have a name that honours him in sound, initials and in the case of [name]Grace[/name] meaning too.

Diminutive = smaller than or lesser than. I’m really tired of females having to be “less than”.

I know a girl named [name]Sarah[/name] [name]James[/name], after her father. I think it is wonderful. I don’t know what names you have considered at all, but I think you can use [name]Joshua[/name] directly. I don’t think you have to redesign it to fit a girl.

[name]Joshua[/name] [name]Eloise[/name] comes to mind.

Oh, I’m so sorry for your loss. It is wonderful to honor him in your daughter’s name. [name]Will[/name] she carry your last name, his, or both and have a hyphenated last name? The last name will affect what some nameberries will suggest for flow. [name]Grant[/name] is a really good middle name, and so is [name]Joshua[/name] when paired with a girlie name like [name]Lily[/name] or a name he would have liked. I love the suggestion of [name]Josslyn[/name], and I think [name]Joss[/name] alone is good too.

[name]Joss[/name]/[name]Josslyn[/name] [name]Grant[/name]
[name]Joss[/name]/[name]Josslyn[/name] [name]Patricia[/name]
[name]Josie[/name] [name]Grant[/name]
[name]Patricia[/name] [name]Josslyn[/name]
[name]Sasha[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Lily[/name] [name]Joshua[/name]
[name]Grace[/name] [name]Joshua[/name]

Let us know what direction to go, and about the last name.

So sorry for your loss.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Josie[/name]? Otherwise, I like [name]Jocelyn[/name] nn [name]Joss[/name], or using the initials as the father.

Another suggestion: is there a specific name that he liked for your baby? Then, if she wasn’t directly named after him, you could always tell her that her daddy picked out her name

[name]Grant[/name] could be changed to [name]Grace[/name]. I think combining that with a J first name so that she has the same initials would be great.

Some suggestions:
[name]Juliet[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Juliana[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Jasmine[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Jewel[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Jillian[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Jordan[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Johanna[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Jemma[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Jessamine[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Jaylee[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Jayda[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
