Our baby boy is due by the end of this month and we’re still struggling for a name. [name_f]My[/name_f] FIL passed away a couple years ago so we are pretty set on using [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] either for a first or middle name. I was also interested in honoring my sister who passed and her name was [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] which I consider unisex. But maybe [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] M or [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] M too much shu shu sound? Also the last name is Scot-Irish so the whole combo might just be too much motherland. Like he’s gonna be the grand marshal at the St Pat’s parade. Lol. What do people think about using [name_u]Shannon[/name_u]? Also what other names might go well with [name_u]Shawn[/name_u]? I think I’d prefer [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] be a middle name? Besides [name_u]Shannon[/name_u], I keep gravitating to names like [name_m]Leon[/name_m], [name_m]Louis[/name_m], [name_u]Logan[/name_u], [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Jerome[/name_m], [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] (Frederick?), etc.
If it matters, we already have a daughter whose first name is [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u].
Would you consider something like Shay/Shea as a middle name as a nod to both [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] and [name_u]Shawn[/name_u]? I normally like alliteration, but [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] and [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] have the same beginning and ending. It is a bit repetitive.
I really like the names you’ve listed for first names!
Other suggestions:
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_m]Casper[/name_m]
[name_m]Emil[/name_m]
[name_u]Jasper[/name_u]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_u]Oliver[/name_u]
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m]
[name_u]Francis[/name_u]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m]
With your two honour names, I prefer them best this way around: [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] [name_u]Shawn[/name_u]. I think [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] is a winner on a boy! I don’t find the alliteration a problem, more of a charm
If you decide to go with [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] in the middle and a first that isn’t an honour, I do think that [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] could be a double-honour. As @VEL points out, [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] has 4 of the same starting and ending letters in common with [name_u]Shannon[/name_u].
What do you think of [name_m]Brannon[/name_m]? It solves the repeating sh sound, and has a meaning with lovely imagery.
I think using both [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] & [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] is a bit much, since they’re so similar. What were [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] & Shannon’s middle names? Maybe there is possibility of using one of those?
Also, I was thinking there are tons of variation for [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] because it comes from [name_u]John[/name_u]. So something like [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] could apply to both, at least I think so.
What about using just [name_u]Shan[/name_u]? I think it honours both [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] and [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] quite obviously. I ferl like [name_u]Shan[/name_u] is a neglected name.
I think combining the name [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] and Shannon…Seanan is a good compromise. It sounds like Shawn-Non and is a worthy tribute while also being original.
[name_m]Seanan[/name_m] [name_m]Louis[/name_m] would be my pick from your list of middle name suggestions.
I think [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] on a little boy has passed its prime. I knew someone growing up named [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] that hated his name, mostly went by [name_u]Shea[/name_u]
[name_u]Shawn[/name_u] on the other hand is classic and fits nicely as a middle. There’s also [name_u]Shane[/name_u] that came to mind
Maybe something that ends like [name_u]Shannon[/name_u]
