I think [name_f]Selene[/name_f] or [name_f]Selena[/name_f] would be best, but to pick, I would think about what name you would like to pair it with. Since it’s in the middle, the first name you choose may sound better with one or the other.
This is what I was thinking also.
I like it spelled [name_f]Selina[/name_f] or Silena. I think either would be great. And it is for a middle, so not much to worry about there Go with the most meaning.
Thanks for the input! You guys make a good point about [name_f]Selene[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Selena[/name_f]/Silena/[name_f]Selina[/name_f] fitting better depending on the first name.
I’ve seen the name spelled this way…[name_f]Sylena[/name_f]
Thanks for the suggestion! I don’t think we’d want to pick another uncommon spelling that wasn’t used by one of the women we want to honor, though. It’s either go with the traditional spelling, or pick one of the “misspellings” that directly honors.
I vote [name_f]Selene[/name_f] (though actually it highly depends on the first name) it’s your favourite, so of course I think you should choose that. Yes for the less direct tie, but it’s just as meaningful, imo.
Definite [name_f]Selena[/name_f] favorite here. I’m thinking of your child’s future here. You may not mind the miss spellings but she is the one who will have to deal with it.
I found this thread while searching for ‘Silena’ on nameberry and was very surprised that nobody likes it. Silena is my favorite spelling by far and I wouldn’t consider any other spelling. Silena [name_m]Beauregard[/name_m] was a daughter of [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] in the [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] series, so the name had beauty when I read the series a long time ago. [name_f]Celine[/name_f]/a looks too Frenchy for me. Most English words start with an “se” not “ce” unless they’re academic vocabulary. Whereas [name_f]Selene[/name_f]/a or [name_f]Selina[/name_f] look too heavy on the pronunciation of the first syllable. In my opinion, [name_f]Selene[/name_f] for whatever reason looks or feels like Semele, the woman in Greek myth who got seduced and burned by [name_m]Zeus[/name_m] for looking at his divine form. [name_f]Selena[/name_f] is too pop culture for me, aka. [name_f]Selena[/name_f] Gomez and the 80s singer [name_f]Selena[/name_f].
Go with the name you love! The connection is still obvious, and you and your daughter will always know who is being honoured.
I voted for [name_f]Selene[/name_f], which is not my personal favorite, but it is yours and I think the intention to honor is more important than having a more obvious link and a name you don’t like as much.
My personal favorite would be [name_f]Selena[/name_f]. Silena is my least favorite. I didn’t even realize it was a spelling variation, and I would have thought the pronunciation was SIGH-lenn-uh, because it looks like “silence” to me.
