I want to honour my father who passed just over a year ago, [name_m]Philip[/name_m], who was known as [name_m]Pip[/name_m] as a child. If I have a daughter, I would love to be able to call her [name_f]Pippa[/name_f], but I hate, hate the name [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] for a girl. It feels wrong in my mouth to say aloud, and reminds me of an annoying girl from grade school.
Is there another way you can see to get [name_f]Pippa[/name_f], short of using it as a full name itself?
My dads full name was [name_m]Philip[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m], last name starts with an M, I was debating using his initials [name_f]Pam[/name_f], to get to [name_f]Pamela[/name_f], but I can’t really picture a baby [name_f]Pamela[/name_f] either? (Sorry [name_f]Pam[/name_f]!) I do love [name_f]Pamela[/name_f] in its own way, and can certainly picture a precocious toddler [name_f]Pamela[/name_f], and a teenage [name_f]Pam[/name_f], but not little baby [name_f]Pamela[/name_f].
Any thoughts, suggestions welcome! Would love to use [name_f]Irie[/name_f]/[name_f]Irene[/name_f] as a middle name if possible, maybe [name_u]Kerry[/name_u] or [name_f]Frances[/name_f] as well. All family names from my dads side.
I think [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] could work for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], though I’m not really sure that’s you’re style.
I have a [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] nn [name_m]Pip[/name_m] – [name_m]Pippin[/name_m] is a traditional nn since the Middle Ages, at least. That would be the easiest solution, since you already have [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] on your wish list.
The more I consider [name_f]Pamela[/name_f], the more I warm to it but I am still unsure. A friend suggested the nn [name_f]Ella[/name_f] over [name_f]Pam[/name_f] which could bring it a bit more up to date?
My fiancé would never go for Phillipine or Proserpina unfortunately.
[name_f]Irene[/name_f] is my middle, as well as my grandmothers name ”
I do like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], but I strongly associate it with my neighbours dog at this point I don’t think the Fiancé or I could get past that.
I did not even think of [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] for a second, fully knowing that [name_m]Pippin[/name_m] is a nickname for it, completely slipped my mind! I have never actually tried to talk my fiancé into [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], but maybe!
Well, there you go! Good luck on the convincing campaign. Sorry about the neighbor’s dog, that’s most unfortunate.
[name_f]Mariposa[/name_f], [name_f]Agrippa[/name_f], Xanthippe, [name_f]Zipporah[/name_f], [name_u]Piper[/name_u], and [name_f]Serendipity[/name_f] probably work too. Eh… some of those are getting pretty out-there though.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Piper[/name_u]? Or [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] (has the same “Ph” as your father, and I think [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] is a fair nickname for it!)
I like [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] for it’s closeness to [name_m]Phillip[/name_m], really love the [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] idea, especially since it is already on your list.
[name_f]Pamela[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or maybe even [name_u]Mel[/name_u] or [name_f]Mellie[/name_f] sounds pretty fabulous to me. Unexpected and up-to-date.
I like the suggestions of [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_u]Piper[/name_u] nickname [name_f]Pippa[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] or [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]? As for baby [name_f]Pamela[/name_f], you could nickname her [name_f]Ella[/name_f]?
I knew a girl called [name_f]Paula[/name_f] who was nicknamed [name_m]Pip[/name_m] and [name_f]Pippa[/name_f], I really like the name [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] but I guess [name_f]Patricia[/name_f], [name_f]Philippine[/name_f], [name_u]Piper[/name_u] or even [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] would work.
You mentioned using [name_f]Irie[/name_f] or [name_f]Irene[/name_f] as a MN, so what about just using a FN that starts with P and then the MN initial would be I to lead to the NN being [name_f]Pippa[/name_f]? Like [name_f]Paige[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f], [name_f]Petra[/name_f] [name_f]Irie[/name_f], [name_f]Portia[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Irie[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f], etc.?
[name_f]PAM[/name_f] – I think anything with all three letters works, doesn’t all have to be in the right order… Plumeria, [name_f]Plum[/name_f], [name_f]Pomeline[/name_f], [name_f]Pomona[/name_f], [name_f]Prima[/name_f], [name_f]Primarosa[/name_f], [name_f]Primavera[/name_f], [name_f]Primetta[/name_f]
If you don’t find a long form of Pippa, might a variation of Anthony work for you?
Antonia, Antonina, Antonella, Antoinette, Nina, Ninette, Toinette
I like @whiteteaandginger’s suggestion of using PI for initials. If you’re open to double middles, maybe you could use PIP as initials?
Something like Parthenia Irie Pearl
(or whatever P names you like - maybe one @whiteteaandsugar suggested?) might work.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] thought og thi thread again (I’m probably repeating some things).
But [name_u]Piper[/name_u] [name_f]Pamela[/name_f] : PIPerPAmela => [name_f]Pippa[/name_f].
And [name_f]Antonia[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous, btw. :)!
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f] is lovely but has some somewhat unsavoury meanings in some languages. Which is why I personally would use it as a nickname or a middle name and not the official first name.
