I’m currently 10 weeks pregnant with my second child (1 little girl called [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] Hazel). Unfortunately my dad passed away last week and we have been discussing ways to honour his name with this baby. If we have a boy, my dad’s middle name will be this little ones middle name. But if we have a girl, we’re pretty stumped. [name_f]My[/name_f] dad was called [name_m]Clive[/name_m], any thoughts and ideas would be much appreciated please. [name_m]Will[/name_m] probably be a middle name to go with second middle name of [name_f]Louise[/name_f] (both our sisters middles).
Some names that have sound similarity and/ or letters in common with [name_m]Clive[/name_m]:
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Clydie[/name_f]
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_f]Clove[/name_f]
[name_f]Clyda[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
I haven’t found any names yet sharing the meaning of ‘cliff’, but I’ll come back to add them if I do.
You could honour your dad by choosing a name related to one of his favourite things, a hobby, his birth stone or flower.
I hope you find a name you really like to honour your dad
I’m going through a similar situation with honoring my Dad in a name for our 2nd daughter.
I think using your dad’s name as a middle just as you would a boy isn’t a bad idea! Especially if you plan to use another middle that’s more feminine. [name_m]Clive[/name_m] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is cute, imo!
Some other ideas could be using your Dad’s birth month, birth flower, or birthstone as an honour name!
I think the variants are limited. If not, maybe your dad’s star sign (if it could work, my son’s middle is [name_m]Leo[/name_m] after my mum’s star sign), his favourite colour, birth month/stone, etc.
[name_f]My[/name_f] deepest condolences on your loss A few ideas to honor could be [name_f]Clio[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Clovelly[/name_f], or [name_m]Clovis[/name_m]. Maybe your Dad’s middle name could work, or variants of it?
I agree [name_f]Olive[/name_f] or Clove/Clover might be nice options… or [name_f]Liv[/name_f]? Different sound but it has the middle three letters of [name_m]Clive[/name_m]. [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is super sweet imo!
First - I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. Some holes in our hearts never truly heal and I think honouring him is such a beautiful way to get to keep a piece of him close to you and living on.
I think [name_f]Olive[/name_f] would be a cute way to honour your dad [name_m]Clive[/name_m]. I also think maybe an anagram would work
I second the idea of using a name after one of your dad’s favorite hobbies/birthstone.
You could also choose a family name on his side of the family as an honor name for him. I heard of someone doing that once and although it might not seem obvious to everyone, as long as that is the meaning for your and your family, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.
I also think Clive/Clove would make a really cute, unexpected nickname for a little girl.
So sorry for your loss. I think a name about the length beginning with the CL sound would be suitable as an honor name. Additionally, you could give your daughter a middle name beginning with your father’s middle name initial.
I really like the name CLAIRE for you. It begins with CL and ends with E. I think that would be enough to remind you of him and his name, since there are no exact matches for girl names. It is really you who knows the reason for the naming and that is what makes it special. Also, the story you pass on to your daughter is what she will remember and treasure about her name.
