Hormonal name crisis

It’s completely not a crisis my rational self is saying calmly, but my hormonal pregnant self is screaming… Are you sure?!?

I think it is because I never really thought we were having a boy that we settled so quickly on a boy name (and I was ecstatic that I got hubby off his [name_m]Siegfried[/name_m] and [name_m]Hagen[/name_m] obsession).

But the boy option has been [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] for the last three months. I loved the fact that it satisfied my husband’s love of Germanic warrior names but sounded usable today.

Now I’m not so sure it isn’t too short next to [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] and [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] and if we use it, it rules out ever using [name_m]Albrecht[/name_m] and I’m not sure which I like best

Here was the original shortlist.

[name_m]Alaric[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucien[/name_m]
[name_m]Dante[/name_m]
[name_m]Albrecht[/name_m]
[name_u]Constantine[/name_u]

[name_m]Lucien[/name_m] was always my fave with every pregnancy, hubby is just about ok with it but doesn’t love.
[name_m]Dante[/name_m] for Rosetti because I love pre Raphaelites
[name_m]Albrecht[/name_m] for Dürer the artist and [name_m]Albrecht[/name_m] [name_m]Mayer[/name_m], an amazing oboist
[name_u]Constantine[/name_u] because [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] the Great was connected to both [name_m]York[/name_m], where many of my family are from and holds a special place in my heart and with Germany but is also my nephew’s middle name although we rarely see that part of the family. I also feel name and style wise, [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] may be the best fit but it is by far the most popular where we live of the five names

Aaaaaaaargh!

When I first got pregnant, we had [name_m]Dante[/name_m] as a name. I love it!
I really love [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucien[/name_m] is lovely (I prefer [name_m]Lucian[/name_m]) but I feel like its more Hispanic than anything.
[name_m]Albrecht[/name_m] is cute!
And [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] goes great with [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] and [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]! Perfect fit!

I like [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], I would skip the others for various reasons. Unless you both like [name_m]Albrecht[/name_m] (which I think is fairly common as a first & last) best. [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] would otherwise be my pick but seeing as its a family child’s name already even as a middle I could see it being hard to use. I know if someone names their son my sons middle (happened lol but they weren’t in the family so we just shrugged oh well but had it been family we wouldn’t have been pleased) [name_m]Dante[/name_m] I like but I’m on the fence as it was once my pets name and [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] is so pretty but if its not love its not love. With each of my kids we name them at gender reveal and then my last few weeks I would always say we are sure right? Right!!!??? Its normal, breathe and say the name out loud, speak to the child and envision this world coming out all day every day for the rest if your life. When you say it and it feels normal and you feel like your getting the name that feels at home in your life you’re alright. I think any of these are fine with your girl picks.

I like [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] with the other names

Thanks, husband thinks I’ve gone crazy. He says, but it has three syllables?!? Took a couple of days to reply because pregnancy is exhausting me, sorry! Still love lots of things about [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], found the cutest little sleepsuit the other day saying “you think you’re so goth, where were you when we sacked [name_m]Rome[/name_m]” and it made me laugh thinking about a baby [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] wearing it. Think it is only the length thing bothering me. Maybe I can alter one of the middles to even out the whole name length so it is closer to his sisters.

I love [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], it is very handsome and fits with your girls well [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I also like [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] and find it a good fit!

[name_m]Alaric[/name_m] goes perfect with your girls! All three names are three syllables so it fits perfectly. It’s my favorite of the bunch (:

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]…and your little ladies’ names too! I love that they are all so unique but have great, wearable everyday nn as options.

[name_m]Alaric[/name_m] can either be [name_m]Al[/name_m] or [name_m]Rick[/name_m] if he chooses later in life or can stick with his super awesome full name.

They all go well together [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

[name_m]Alaric[/name_m] also has three syllables though :stuck_out_tongue:

I think [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] fits best with the rest

I know an [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] (we call him [name_m]Lars[/name_m]). He’s an adorable, beautiful little guy. [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] is gorgeous, something I would love to use, but I would need a way to shorten it, and I haven’t figured that out yet

I like [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] the best! While it looks short when written, it does have those three syllables and siblings names are [name_m]SAID[/name_m] together much more than written together. I think it’s is a great match with your girls!

I like [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] best out of all the options. [name_m]Lars[/name_m] is a great NN option as suggested above!

What about [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Constantine[/name_u]?

I think [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] would be very complementary to the length and style of your girls’ names but if one of my siblings or family members used my kids middles as their kids first name, I have to admit that I’d be irritated and proclaim their tackiness.

I think [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_m]Lucien[/name_m] is pretty amazing…that’s what I’m rooting for! Are you doing two middles again? Using only your existing list or are the middles still out there waiting to be discovered? I can’t wait to see your final combination. Your girl names are heavenly.

Possible middles:

[name_m]Roderic[/name_m]
[name_m]Drexel[/name_m]
[name_m]Brahms[/name_m]
[name_m]Baden[/name_m]

Thanks everyone, think I’m calming down a bit more.

The middles aren’t in my signature. We will be going for two, just like with our girls. One family honour name and it’s another J. If we had many more J names in our family, people might start to think our surname was Duggar! Final middle is a guilty pleasure and I’m between two, both with a lot of meaning.

Some of those suggestions did tickle me, especially as if you don’t speak [name_m]German[/name_m] it would be impossible to know they didn’t work! [name_m]Baden[/name_m] means to have a bath and if you say it fast [name_m]Drexel[/name_m] sounds like an insult which literally means filthy pig and is quite a bad curse word! I really think some of the name meanings for names from other cultures in the database need checking over!

[name_m]Man[/name_m], I thought [name_m]Baden[/name_m] was so cute and [name_m]Drexel[/name_m] sounds so smart and intellectual. Oh well. I also wish there were more forums or perhaps articles written by avid users explaining some intricacies of international names. Thanks for sharing.

I have never met an [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] and it has a great meaning that he will be proud to bear.

Like a pp mentioned, [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] sounds great. [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_m]John[/name_m] for the J-name?
