Hospital packing list for c-section

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] All,

I will be having a planned c-section for my second baby in about a month, because the first was an emergency c-section after 26 hours of labor.

Knowing beforehand this time around, what things should we be sure to pack? For moms who have had c-sections, what was most comforting to you during your hospital stay?

Thanks in advance!

I have not experienced this myself but I would recommend slip-on slippers for you and socks for the little one. Also don’t forget a camera!

I also had an emergency c-section after 33 hours labor. I was really thankful I brought a nursing/pregnancy nighty to wear in the hospital. I had also brought a 2 piece pj set, but never wore it because the waist band went right across my incision.

  • High-waisted panties (I wore the mesh ones they provide during my hospital stay, but you’ll need some to wear home that won’t touch the incision. You’ll also need a going-home outfit that won’t rest on your incision.)
  • Slip-on shoes (so you won’t have to bend to put them on or tie them).
  • Boppy pillow ([name_m]Even[/name_m] if you don’t plan on breastfeeding, it can help you hold the baby up away from your incision.)
I was able to wear my regular pajamas because the waistband was high enough, but a cute maternity/nursing nightgown might have been even better. Easier to put on (no bending or lifting legs) and easier access for the nurses when they come to check your bleeding and incision.
I also brought my own pillow from home (it was so much comfier than the flat crunchy pillows they have at the hospital) and a cute sleeper for my baby to wear during our hospital stay, so we could both be in cute pajamas. It might sound a little ridiculous, but my firstborn had to stay in the NICU and I had excessive bleeding following her birth, so we both had to wear hospital gowns the whole time. I liked the normalcy of being able to wear my own pajamas and dress my baby like I would at home. I didn’t get that the first time.
