Hot Takes? 🤭

[name_m]Franz[/name_m] is underrated.

well at least you don’t pronounce it as beat-rice, right? I see it more as Bea-trice. Imagine the world if Beatrice was actually beat-rice…

idk at this point i just wanna help and save a name here… oh and also say the things in my mind :+1:

Hot take: Gertrude is actually nice, especially with her nicknames. Sure, it’s impossible to imagine a little Gertrude, but a little Trudie?? :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

This for me as well, though I may be biased because it’s personal. I’m Jack and my only brother is John ā€œJohnny.ā€ I actively chose to be Jack (I’m the older brother, but I changed my name), knowing full well it’s a John derivative, though for me Jack is my not-instinctive nickname for something else that is not John or a John derivative. The association doesn’t bother me. I actually like it because our late father is John. I get why shared origin might be an issue for some, but I’d never try to dissuade people from doing it and I definitely agree most people wouldn’t notice unless it was literally something like Edward and Edwin.

Which, funnily enough, wouldn’t even have the same meaning but would feel a lot closer than Elizabeth & Isabelle, for example.

Yuri & Jordi could be (unlikely) brothers and no one would bat an eye at them both being ā€žGeorgeā€œ.

It’s really not much of a problem, though maybe don’t got with Elizabeth Belle & Isabelle Eliza.

I don’t like [name_f]Edie[/name_f] at all. I just don’t like the way it sounds and all the spellings of it look awkward to me. It can be great for other people, but not for me

I prefer [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] to [name_f]Edie[/name_f]

[name_u]Daniel[/name_u], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] Ect i dislike because of the [name_m]Niel[/name_m] ending.

If [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] is a name, why isn’t Nathanelle

i’ve seen a few people saying they have been put off cameron because it means crooked nose

but honestly, i think crooked nose is such an adorable meaning

For a second I thought you said it meant ā€˜cooked nose’ and I didn’t realize until after, I was very confused as to why that would be a cute meaning

I feel like a lot of names here are ā€œallowedā€ to be made fun of, simply because they’re disliked by the majority of people. This includes some of the names that I like, such as the modern invented mix-and-match names.
[name_f]Kylee[/name_f], [name_u]Rylee[/name_u]. [name_m]Brayson[/name_m], [name_m]Tayson[/name_m], [name_m]Cason[/name_m]. [name_u]Braelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Raelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Maelyn[/name_f]. [name_f]Skylynn[/name_f], [name_f]Starlynn[/name_f], etc.

I think people react too strongly to these kind of names. I can understand not liking them, but with the way some people act, you’d think I suggested something truly problematic like [name_m]Adolf[/name_m].

They may not have much history yet, but at least they are created by combining parts of other well-known names. With no major past associations yet, you basically get a clean slate and make your own history. And I think that’s pretty cool!

(I think completely making a name up from scratch is a bit much for me, but that’s a conversation for another time)

But…
I really don’t understand Camryn/Kamryn at all.

I especially dislike [name_u]Kamryn[/name_u]. I get that changing a letter to ā€œyā€ is a pretty common way to make a name more ā€œgirlyā€ (even if I don’t understand why), but why would you remove the ā€œeā€ from [name_u]Cameron[/name_u]? That changes the pronunciation.

At this point, I don’t think they could even be considered the same name.
And why is K considered more feminine than C? I have the same problem with [name_u]Karsyn[/name_u]. Name you girl [name_u]Carson[/name_u] (or even Carsyn) if you must, but adding a K does not make it more of a girls’ name.

I feel like if you have to make multiple spelling changes to a name in order to like it, you probably never really liked that name in the first place and you might as well pick a different one.

I put this in the memes but [name_f]Sosie[/name_f] is [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] + [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and it’s better than both!
