Hot Takes? đŸ€

So am I, which is why we pronounce our Endymion’s name the way we do, even if it confuses some people  I agree that Artemas and Artemis can sound similar when said quickly. But even then they’re not the same name, so Artemis still isn’t unisex.

I feel like either that, pronouncing them like they were originally, or pronouncing them like they would be pronounced in the language you’re speaking (some languages, for example, always emphasise certain syllables and everything else would sound strange), but I don’t like a faux-something pronunciation where you’re trying to keep the original pronunciation but also anglicise it (EsmĂ©e as ez-may, for example).

this is just a me preference but

full name with nn that is sometimes used and full name sometimes used >>>>>> full name with nn that is always used and full name is never used >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> nickname as a full name

that is

[name_m]Albert[/name_m] “Albie” who is sometimes [name_m]Albert[/name_m] and sometimes [name_m]Albie[/name_m] >>>>>> [name_m]Albert[/name_m] “Albie” who is always [name_m]Albie[/name_m] >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> [name_m]Albie[/name_m]

Posted this in memes, but immediately deleted it because my wording felt way too mean-spirited. It probably fits better here anyway.

I really don’t mind if I name my child [name_u]Poet[/name_u] and they end up not liking poetry. There’s so many occupational baby names out there that no one bats an eyelash at that I get frustrated that this one seems to get singled out.

for real!!

like i honestly hate poetry, i can’t get behind it at all and i’ve never liked it. however, i love Poet !!
plus, it’s not like you’re naming your kid Lawyer or President or something

Yeah! And [name_u]Harper[/name_u] is super popular
I don’t think any of the Harpers I know play the actual harp.

If you can use Wildrose, Wilde, Wilder and Wildflower as middles, Wildfire would be cool

Melina is a better name then Melanie

I honestly don’t like either of those.

For me it differs because it’s an occupation that is still quite popular and there still seems to be a connection to “genius” (at least past social media). So more like naming your kid Composer or Author - there just seems to be a level of genius involved in these terms that doesn’t exist with Lawyer or Baker - let alone Mason and other older occupational names.
But maybe that viewpoint is influenced by me being literature student where poets and poetry need to live up to a high standard/is a title that needs to be “earned” (in a different way than going to medical school).

And maybe the hottest take: this just seems like “I’m 14 and this is deep” name to me because of that.

Well, wildfires destroy thousands of homes and animal habitats, wildflowers are quite nice to look at on the other hand.

I can see where you’re coming from. It just doesn’t bother me that much, and I’m a literature student too. Maybe that’s why it appeals to me.

Not necessarily a hot take, but if I’m asking to be talked into a name, I don’t understand why people try to talk me out of it

literally !!
it’s like

“hello, please convince me to like this name”
someone: “hello, here’s every reason you should hate this name”

Especially because the name in question is an international name. :sob::sob: like
why?

hot take: I’ve seen a fair few comments about people liking “names with a long and rich history” and honestly, I could care less. except in cases when it would cause the name to be offensive to a group or groups, I really. do not care about its previous usage. at all. it does not matter to me whether this name comes from the Victorian era or Ancient Greece or the 1980s, or whether a great person had this name or not. this does not at all influence whether I like a name or not.

me too! same as name meanings for me. i like names because of the sound, look, and the vibe it gives me

agreed !! name meanings don’t actually matter to me in the slightest. they’re fun, but knowing that Cecily means “blind” doesn’t put me off of it at all.
