I mostly like nicknames just as a fun name for them to go by sometimes (especially when by family and close friends), but not necessarily the name they only go by everyday, all the time, by everyone. For example, a kid named [name_u]William[/name_u] being called by his full name a lot of the time, but sometimes being called [name_m]Willy[/name_m] or [name_u]Will[/name_u] at home or by friends.
The only exception to this for me would be honor names. Iām much more okay with an honor name being shortened to a nickname for all uses. Example: grandson is named [name_u]William[/name_u] after his grandpa with the same name, so the grandson only goes by [name_u]Will[/name_u].
Never got the love for [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. When I heard this name I found it unnatural but I tried to like it, and with the time I am disliking even more. It is almost on my name blacklistsā¦.
If someone can explain me though! I just donāt understand, haha
I like [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] more though. [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] was one of my favourite names as a child.
Maybe [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] sounds āwrongā because you have a strong positive feeling about [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]?
I do think [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] has quite a gothic vibe and personally I would not use it on a child because the [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] character is just so darn tragic and has a horribly sad death. But ignoring that context, I think itās pretty in a dark academia kind of way!
I was six or eight when I first heard [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] on W.I.T.C.H. She was witty and cool and also I liked her appearance in the comics. That was one of my favourite comics and I loved to read it at the home of my friend. Reminds me of a good witch! A fun one, sparky one, like [name_f]Enid[/name_f] from [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]. And purple! Corneliaās colour was purple in WITCH. I like this colour.
I donāt have any association with [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] but it sounds a bit weird for me⦠And it still reminds me of some witch, but not a good one, very sharp kind too. It reminds me of green and fog and old houses that are not used anymore and it just feels made up or weird to me and I have no idea of why! It feels too frilly and over the top and while [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is strong and mature [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] reminds me either of a grumpy grandma or of an eternal child who is too obxionous and immature to understand what happens around herā¦
This could just be me, but I canāt hear [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] without thinking of [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] āCordyā [name_m]Drexel[/name_m] Biddle from The Happiest Millionaire (based on the real person but obviously a fictionalized version). āAre you [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] candy or boxing gloveā¦?ā
So funny! To me [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is such a pretty and gorgeous princess name! It literally sounds in Italica. Probably Iām affected by 12 Dancing Princesses by [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] (or whatever the full name is You say āCordeliaā and I immediately start hearing the soundtrack - aaaa-aaaaaaaa-a-a-a )
I donāt think there is even a [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] in that movie! I wonder which one you are thinking of! Maybe [name_f]Edeline[/name_f]? [name_u]Courtney[/name_u]?
@Kipperbo1
You are right! Omg, Iām getting old [name_f]Delia[/name_f]. But I always felt like [name_f]Delia[/name_f] is just a nickname in this movie, not frilly enough. [name_f]My[/name_f] mind kinda mixed these names together!
Why is it āThe French pronunciationā, āThe English pronunciationā, āThe German Pronunciationā, āThe Spanish pronunciationā, but āThe American butcheringā.
What is so fundamentally wrong about American accents that the way we say any word or name from another language is called butchering? We are not the only people that change pronunciations to suit our language and accents better.
When people use [name_u]Quest[/name_u] as a name I assume itās supposed to evoke an āIām on more than an adventure, Iām on a mission ā kind of vibe but all I see is āDo what I tell you, and when youāre done do the next thing I tell you.ā
I had a male friend whose first name was [name_u]Chris[/name_u] and his last name paired with it sounded just like [name_f]Crystal[/name_f], so weād call him that, and I lowkey think itās cute on a boy as a nickname for [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]
Agreed! And it would fit in well with the trend of gemstones. Why not add crystals to the mix?
