Probably more of a guilty pleasure, but it’s not my naming style at all! Why do I have such a soft spot for this name? Is it up there with the [name]Peyton[/name] and [name]Jaylyn[/name] names that I can’t stand? I don’t know what I want you to convince me of, but would love to hear if anyone else also has something for this name… or knows any little girls with it. Thanks
I like [name]Skylar[/name] too, but hate [name]Peyton[/name] and [name]Jaylyn[/name]. I think it feels less trendy because it sounds like a surname, like [name]Sawyer[/name], just more feminine.
I too hate [name]Jaylyn[/name] and the like, but love [name]Skylar[/name]. I knew a lovely down-to-earth [name]Skylar[/name] in high school and it was an absolutely beautiful name on her. I don’t see it as being trendy or sounding contrived.
I hate [name]Peyton[/name] and [name]Jaylyn[/name]. But I do love [name]Skylar[/name]. My best friend’s stepdaughter is named [name]Skylar[/name], she is adorable. I love [name]Skyla[/name] a lot more and I don’t know why! lol
I don’t think [name]Skylar[/name] has the same vibe as [name]Peyton[/name] and [name]Jaylyn[/name]. As long as you spell it with the -ar ending (seen as the feminine version) and not -yr or -r (Yes, I do know a Skylr; it’s a horrible spelling), it’s not tacky. It’s sounds surname-y but not really, has more substance than [name]Skye[/name] (though I do prefer that) and isn’t overly feminine but not too masculine. While it sits at 145, it doesn’t seem trendy since it just hangs around that mark. Plus, it’s got a smart meaning and isn’t madeup OR misspelled.
I know a [name]Skylar[/name] who is about four years old. I find it a bit trendy-sounding for my liking, but there is something pretty about it. You may also like the similar names [name]Shyla[/name] or Skylark, which have the same sound but are much less used.
I like it. It fits with trendy siblings like [name]Peyton[/name] and [name]Jaylyn[/name], but its more substantial to me, only if it doesn’t have a ridiculous spelling. I have a couple guilty pleasure “trendy” names too.
I think we all have our gp names!
I’ll be the odd one out. WARNING If you have a child named [name]Skylar[/name] you [name]WILL[/name] find this offensive. [name]Remember[/name] i am commenting only on how -I- feel about the name and not how I feel about your child or your intelligence/style/taste/family history with the name.
I first heard [name]Skylar[/name] when i was around 13 years old and I remember thinking “That’s not a name.” lol obviously it is. However i still don’t like it. [name]IMO[/name] it evokes images of hippy airheaded girls, and emo boys. I just can’t imagine anyone of any importance ever being named [name]Skylar[/name]. I know that is mean. I do personally find the ‘ayden’ names more attractive then [name]Skylar[/name].
As another person posted [name]Skyla[/name] sounds better [name]IMO[/name]. Still hippy, but possibly cool book smart hippy instead of dope head hippy. xD
I like [name]Skye[/name] more than [name]Skylar[/name].
I also think the [name]Schuyler[/name] spelling is the best as it is the original. The “[name]Skylar[/name]” and “[name]Skyler[/name]” spelling feels more trendy.
I like [name]Skylar[/name]. Its not my style at all; but I get the appeal.
I know two girls called [name]Skyla[/name] (this spelling), which I prefer to [name]Skylar[/name]. I admit, it’s a guilty pleasure of mine (along with [name]Mimi[/name] and [name]Sasha[/name]).
I know of a two-year-old named [name]Skylar[/name] (mn [name]Alexis[/name]). I actually like the name, even though it’s not a name I would ever use. It’s one of the nicer trendy names out there.
I hate it Sorry.
I hate it, sorry. But I do prefer [name]Skylar[/name] spelling to others mentioned. I know of a little girl named [name]Schuyler[/name] and in my head I always read it as “squealer.”
Sorry to be mean but that’s my honest opinion. Others seem to like it so maybe I’m in the minority
not a huge fan of the name, but i do like the spelling schuyler much better as well. at least it’s a real surname. skylar is like the phonetic spelling of schuyler, and skylar seems so “made-up” (but then i guess all names are if you think about it!). anyhoo, i think i prefer skye or sky over skylar. my soul groaned when rachel zoe named her son skylar, but i find myself charmed by his nickname “sky-sky”.
I always pronounce [name]Schuyler[/name] as Shh-ler - I know it’s NOT pronounced like that, but my non-English brain just keeps reading it like that.
I fell out of love with the name after a Greek friend of my told me the meaning of a word spelled simillarly in Greek with a very nasty meaning (spelled [name]Skyla[/name] - pronounced ski-la). Basically the word for ‘female dog’ which is also used as an insult =/ After that I just couldn’t view it as a name anymore =(
I really do not like [name]Skyler[/name]. I like [name]Skyla[/name], [name]Quilla[/name], and [name]Ciel[/name] (sky in French).
