We are still trying and had already chosen a name…until my great grandfather passed away in February. He wasn’t my biological grandfather but had been married to my grandmother for over 50 yrs before her death a few years ago and all my biological great grandfathers were gone before I was born.
We had agreed on Thalia Galilei Caelin-Vrai. There aren’t any female relatives on my husband’s side that have passed that he would like to honor. Caelin is for a grandmother on my mom’s side, Casimira, a name my husband despises so we chose an initial instead. Vrai was more difficult to settle on. Verline was the great grandmother I previously mentioned. We went through tons of “v” names and names that mean “faith” like my grandmother’s and finally decided on another virtue name meaning truth. I adore Galilei but am considering changing it for my grandpa.
His name was George and while I could just keep it as is since its a “g” name, I don’t feel it truly honors him to add the meaning after the fact instead of using it as an initial criteria. My kids already have a cousin named Georgia so I’m avoiding it as to not cause confusion. The only other girls name I can think of is Georgina which I don’t like. Please help. I know it’s early to pick a name as I’m not pregnant yet but we didn’t agree on girls names until the same week as my last kid was born, two weeks late and luckily a boy.
I’m also concerned with how my grandpa might take it if we use his step dad’s name instead of his dad’s. Although our boy’s choice includes a middle shared with his brother, that is also my dad’s middle, which I think he would appreciate.
