How dated is Lisa?

I wanted to name my first daughter after my mother in order to honor her. It just seems that [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] might be a little dated on a brand new baby. I was thinking of the middle name [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and calling her [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] [name_f]Belle[/name_f], because it’s adorable, but in reality she’d only be called that by me. What about Lisabelle as a combo name, or is that too ridiculous? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you guys think [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] is too dated of a name now a days or could it still hold up today?

It is dated, but will no doubt be back on trend in a generations time. So you could be way ahead of the curve
I dont love it at all though. It does feel very 80s.
A freinds sister is called [name_f]Lissa[/name_f], which is very sweet.

I know a [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] in her young twenties and she’s soooo sweet and beautiful. I love the name and I don’t think it’s dated.

I would say it’s dated. Alternatives could be [name_f]Lissa[/name_f] or [name_f]Liza[/name_f] or [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. But really, I feel that when it comes to family names and honoring beloved family members, I wouldn’t be concerned about names being dated.

Lisabelle is way too much, though. Sorry. Lisabel would be slightly better, but I still wouldn’t recommend it.

It does sound quite dated to me. What about a variation of it, like:

[name_f]Elisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Lise[/name_f] (a chic [name_m]French[/name_m] form of [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], I believe! And [name_u]Lisa[/name_u], of course, comes from [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f])
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_u]Elisee[/name_u] (farther removed from [name_f]Lise[/name_f] or [name_f]Elisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Elise[/name_f]… it’s a rare [name_m]French[/name_m] form of [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], pronounced eh-lee-[name_m]SAY[/name_m], which I find so unusual and yet soft and intriguingly feminine! I think [name_u]Elisee[/name_u] is really fun)
Elisabella/[name_f]Elisabetta[/name_f]/Elisabelle

Good luck!

Hmm…
I actually kind of like [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]. She’s dated yes but I think she does have a rather fresh retro appeal. It’s like she isn’t old enough or pretty enough to be declared as a classic but she isn’t uglier enough to be discarded like [name_f]Bertha[/name_f]. She’s stuck in the middle - she’s stuck in limbo - I love the fact that you want to honour your mother and I think you should. But I dislike Lisabelle as a name together and I believe just naming your daughter [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] is a little too much.

Have you thought of [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]? Maybe it’s too far away from ‘[name_u]Lisa[/name_u]’ but I think [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] using the nickname ‘[name_u]Lisa[/name_u]’ is the perfect substitute for this issue. [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] is elegant and has appeared on my forever changing favourite name list (whoop! lol) and just works. I love [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] as well. [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is effortless.

Or you could switch it up a little and have maybe [name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]? [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] would work as middle name.
Suggestions:
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]
[name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]

I think [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] isn’t quite classic, but it’s pretty timeless. I know a few in their 20s & 30s and though it’s a troubling namesake, a toddler by the name [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] was in the news last year cause of a kidnapping, so it’s still in use today. To me it’s a pretty sounding name and a solid choice. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] or [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] might feel more 2013 to you? I wouldn’t smoosh [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] [name_u]Bell[/name_u], but I think it could catch on & work beyond a family nickname. [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f] would be a sophisticated way to get to [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] too. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] could work as well.

There’s a [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] who goes to my school (and she’s in my grade, so she’s about 17) and she’s so beautiful, it makes me love the name! Also, something to think about if you care about popularity, is that [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] is very well known but she wouldn’t have another one in her grade (or like the girl I know, in the entire school)

I consider it dated. I know a [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] who’s about seventeen, but the name doesn’t feel very young. I see it fitting a forty year old much more than a toddler.
I also don’t care for the combo Lisabelle. [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] or [name_f]Elise[/name_f] with the nickname [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] might work.

What about [name_f]Annalisa[/name_f]? More of a familiar name than Lisabelle but you still get [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] in there.

[name_f]Elisa[/name_f] is a nice one too. If you emphasize the [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] part it reminds me of the song by [name_m]Serge[/name_m] Gainsbourgh “[name_f]Elisa[/name_f]”. Pretty song, not sure what it means though, but he says [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] a lot

It could be seen as dated, but I have actually heard it a few times lately. [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] is adorable and I am a huge fan of family names!

I also think [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]'s a little bit dated. I didn’t see these suggested on the previous page: what about [name_f]Louise[/name_f] or [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] to honor her? I’m actually considering using them as middles to honor my mother, also a [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]. =) [name_m]Both[/name_m] of them seem sort of spunky and cute to me!

I prefer [name_f]Annalise[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f], but I don’t think [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] is too dated to use. It isn’t fresh, but it isn’t quite classic either. I do get a bit of an 80’s vibe off it, but that’s probably just when its popularity peaked. Plus there is the ever-present Simpsons association.
I think [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] is a nice choice if a bit safe. I rope it in with names like [name_f]Katie[/name_f], [name_f]Brittany[/name_f], [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_m]Jason[/name_m].
But then, not every kid has to have an exotic name.

Thanks for everybody’s advice. I think I’m going to stick with [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] (first name) [name_f]Belle[/name_f] (middle name). The religious meaning behind [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] and it being a family name are 2 very redeeming qualities for me. Thanks for the input!

I think it’s extremely dated. I can’t imagine a baby named [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]. I like the suggestion above of [name_f]Annalisa[/name_f]. I also love [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] which could be a way to honor your mom.
