I must admit I love almost all variations of Brad but I realized the name is not popular anymore amongst new parents. Why is that? Brad isn’t a hit anymore and what do you guys think of it?
Would you still use it for a baby boy
It’s my brother’s name (picked because it was our moms “almost name”), so I do have some fond feelings for it personally. He was born 2000-2005 and it does feel very tied to that generation, and since it peaked in the 80s/90s in the US I think that’s why it’s not as common now. Brad(ley) is a very “dad” name now in the way Greg(ory) and Chad(rick) are, which isn’t a bad thing, but new parents aren’t interested in using their peers names. In a couple of generations it’ll probably come back around, as it has that it factor of being have the -ley ending and being a surname-name that seems to cycle, but right now it’s too tied to just one generation.
I wouldn’t personally use it, as it is my brothers name and it is not to my personal tastes, but I have considered [name_m]Bradford[/name_m] before. I do like the name, but again I have a personal bias towards it
I don’t personally like it. In general there’s nothing really wrong with it, it’s just a dad name to me, and blends in with [name_m]Ken[/name_m], [name_m]Doug[/name_m], [name_m]Bill[/name_m], [name_u]Phil[/name_u], etc. I think it’s especially unpopular with younger generations because it’s kind of a meme now, similar to [name_m]Chad[/name_m] or [name_f]Karen[/name_f]. I wouldn’t ever use it, though overall it’s definitely not the worst name to use
Why didnt you end up using [name_m]Bradford[/name_m]? [name_m]Just[/name_m] curious
It’s my baby’s name hehe
i’m a bit bias, I have a cousin named [name_u]Bradley[/name_u].
I absolutely love the name

Never met a [name_m]Brad[/name_m] I liked.
I guess because it was a hit in the 90s/2000s, and sometimes, names just fall out of favour as parents seek new names - unique or more distinctive or more classic and [name_u]Bradley[/name_u] doesn’t really fall into either the fresh and unique or the classic and timeless categories. That’s not to say it’s a bad name - it’s solid choice, has the sounds of current names (Adley, [name_u]Addison[/name_u], [name_u]Levi[/name_u], [name_u]Eli[/name_u], [name_u]Wesley[/name_u], Bentley) and feels like it wouldn’t feel outlandish
I do have to agree with the posters who said that it just feels dated. My only exposure to Brad has been through primarily jock characters in American movies from the 80’s and 90’s, so that’s my association
[name_m]Brad[/name_m] feels very much like a dad name to me, and the type of dad who was a frat boy in college and now takes his son’s peewee football games a little too personally. it really isn’t my style, especially because I think it’s dated, but I wouldn’t like it even if it wasn’t.
[name_u]Bradley[/name_u] is actually my partners middle name, as well as his fathers middle name. I don’t honestly know if it’s got any family significance, and I think for his Grandma to pull that one out in the 60s might have been a bit ahead of the times.
I have zero intentions of carrying on that tradition, I can think of at least 3 Bradley’s I grew up with and very few positive associations haha
While it’s not exactly fresh it’s almost…refreshing? For a baby boy anyway. It wouldn’t stand out negatively against today’s popular names either. [name_u]Radley[/name_u] feels a little more current.
[name_u]Bradley[/name_u] is okay.
