How do you feel about Aurelian?

I absolutely love the name [name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] for a boy. It comes from my family history, and there was also the Emperor [name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] of [name_m]Rome[/name_m] in the 3rd century. It means “little golden one” and I could use either Aurey or [name_u]Lian[/name_u] as a nickname. uh-real-ian.

I just want to know what the general public reaction to this name is.

Seeing it for the first time my first guess was that it was pronounced Oh-rail-ian like “Australian”. That could just be because I am Australian and so I am pronouncing it with my not so pretty accent! My first thought was also that it was a name for a girl. Reminds me of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].

Sorry probably not the feedback you were hoping for. Maybe show it to a bunch of people and say “who would you pronounce this and which gender comes to mind”

If everyone else gets it right go for it!

I’ve heard this name a few times (once in a doujinshi visual novel) and I’ve only heard it pronounced Au-rail-ian (like [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] with an -n).

I quite like it, though. It’s certainly more unusual, but I like unusual.

This is a beautiful sounding name. Spelling and pronunciation would likely be an issue, but that’s how it always is with unique names. I like it!

Yes, the [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] with an n pronunciation is probably what would get used the most, but I don’t mind that. I’m in the south, so nobody pronounces anything correctly anyways. Of the two nickname options, Aurey or [name_u]Lian[/name_u], which do you like best?

I prefer [name_m]Aurelius[/name_m] personally (and I really like the name!).

I feel like [name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] is a little more modern than [name_m]Aurelius[/name_m] and like I say, it has family ties which are important to me. My ancestors settled in [name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] Springs.

I’ve been thinking middle names.

[name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] [name_m]Stone[/name_m]
[name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] [name_m]Kane[/name_m]

and of course the father’s favorite (which I cannot stand)

[name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]

I meant that I can’t stand the name, not that I can’t stand the father  I just realized how that sounded.

I like it a lot! [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] are two of my top girl names so naturally I am also drawn to [name_m]Aurelian[/name_m]. The fact that it has family ties, makes me like it even more for you  It is a strong, unique but “on trend” type of name with the -n ending.

I much prefer the nn Aury because [name_u]Lian[/name_u] would just become [name_m]Liam[/name_m] when people hear it. I also think [name_u]Rory[/name_u] could work!

[name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] [name_m]Stone[/name_m] sounds really cool. I also like [name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] [name_m]Kane[/name_m]. [name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] sounds good too, but I prefer your more nique choices of [name_m]Stone[/name_m] and [name_m]Kane[/name_m]

Yes, the popularity of [name_m]Liam[/name_m] is why I thought [name_u]Lian[/name_u] would make a good nickname in the first place, it’s close enough to a now common name that it might even help people to pronounce the name correctly, but still different. My only worry would be him getting called “[name_f]Leann[/name_f]” like a girl.

I’m not sure whether I prefer [name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] or [name_m]Aurelius[/name_m] but both are pretty cool names.

I think the popularity of [name_m]Liam[/name_m] puts me off about the nn [name_u]Lian[/name_u], because when he does say his name to people, they will only hear [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and he will be called that a lot. I think people would hear [name_m]Liam[/name_m] before [name_f]Leann[/name_f], since he would be a boy.

[name_m]Eli[/name_m], [name_m]Elian[/name_m] and [name_m]Ian[/name_m] are other nickname options

Yes I think I’m pretty set on [name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] now. It’s versatile enough that I feel like my son will be able to choose his own identity once he’s old enough. Now just for the middle name!

Personally too long for me to use as a first name, I’m not into nicknames but would use for middle

I would ensure I paired it with a masculine middle name to clarify gender, and avoid unisex middle names like [name_u]Jude[/name_u].
