How do you feel about Ransom as a middle name?

I like that [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] has some historical precedent of use while also feeling kind of fresh and edgy, but my feeling is that it might be too edgy. I’m generally more comfortable with more “out there” names as middle names, but still wasn’t sure if it would come across okay or if it would still make people think “oh the parents thought they were being sooooo cool, didn’t they ” I mean, I know you can’t please everybody, but I still do care to some extent, and was curious to survey opinions on it here.

If some context helps, I’m imagining it most likely being a middle name for [name_u]Wesley[/name_u], and my last name is a terrifically plain two-syllable British/American sounding name that contributes absolutely zero edginess to the name overall. :joy:

I think it’s a great name. I don’t think it’s too edgy or out there. If you like it, use it.

I don’t think it would make a great first name for the exact reasons you cited, although it does sound cool (honestly, it’s a word that sounds 100% like it would be a name if it wasn’t for the meaning!) That being said, I think it makes an incredible middle. The perfect spot for it and it adds a bit of punch to the name without being overpowering or, well, looking like you’re trying too hard!

For most professional purposes, he’d just be [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] or [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] R. and I think that would work wonderfully. Go for it!

Ooh [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] is a really cool middle name! I think it would be fun to share with people and [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] is a wonderful combo

I do think of the word ‘ransom’, as in to hold someone ransom if they are taken hostage… but that’s just my association with it, If it’s a middle name I think it would be easier to use.

I love it! Have you read C.S. Lewis’ Space Trilogy? The main character is named [name_m]Ransom[/name_m].
