I found this name in my family tree and like it, but I can’t figure out how to properly say it! [name_u]Aza[/name_u]-leia (second syllable like [name_f]Leia[/name_f] from [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars)? [name_u]Aza[/name_u]-leah? Az-uh-leah?
[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-Zay-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]-a
I’m not the best at pronounciation so I checked first and for once my first instinct was right! Although it can also be pronounced uh-zay-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]-a. I hope that helps!
Wow, I didn’t even think of that! Thanks a bunch! Of course, now this means I can’t use it…a couple from our church is naming their daughter this name, but will call her [name_m]Zaily[/name_m] (Zay-lee). I didn’t realize it was the same name. Rats. Oh well
Yeah well, their other daughter is called [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], so they seem to be proficient at finding obscure names. Rumor is (they haven’t officially announced the name, but the husband’s mother told me), they just liked it. I could technically still get away with using it, as it was my great-grandmother’s middle name…but the couple is definitely the “I claimed this and it is mine…anyone who uses it is stealing it and I will point that out any chance I get” type. sigh it is too bad. Maybe I can sneak it in as a middle name.
I must admit I never get the whole ‘stealing’ a name thing. However who wants to be the second one to use an unusual name? I say use it as a fabulous honour middle!
I don’t know…I mean, I can fully understand that deflated feeling that comes when you have a name you have loved for years, then you find out someone else has decided to use it as well…especially if the name isn’t super popular. However, I do think it is completely ridiculous to think that your kid will be the only one with a certain name in the whole world.
It is sort of the “being second to use an unusual name” thing that causes me some hesitation, especially given the couple’s personalities. Although, honestly, everyone has equal claim to names…it isn’t like we are sisters naming little cousins.
I may have nothing to worry about, though. I ran the name by my husband and he just shrugged. The name he wants to use is very hard to find decent middles for, but I thought [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] sounded sort of nice with it.
